You can probably upgrade the OS, but we need to know the model of your iMac.

Backing up to DVDs is a time-wasting exercise and doesn't provide you with a bootable alternative. I suggest that you invest in an ext FWHD and use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto it. BTW, don't let the recall notice scare you into getting it replaced immediately. If there's nothing wrong with the HD, prepare for getting it replaced, but only after you've followed all the steps outlined above. FWIW, if you're within 50 miles of an Apple repair station, they most likely will do an onsite repair since it's a desktop machine. -

Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

i have mac 10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10. on checking help website i am told latest flash player 16.0.0.305 is already installed BUT does not appear on my list of applications and am unable to access websites requiring it. have also downloaded flash player installer app but unable to download the flash player itself. can anyone help? thank you!

Your version of Safari is still supported. Please see Adobe Flash Player | Tech specs for supported OS and browsers.
If the Flash Player plugin is in the Plug-ins (disabled) folder it's because it's an older version that Apple has disabled in Safari. This has nothing to do with whether or not Flash Player supports the browser.
I'm not sure what you mean by "when i click on flash player itself i am told there is no application to open it." Flash Player.plugin only works in the browser to view Flash content in the browser. The plugin does not open files outside of the browser. If you have SWF files you'd like to view outside of the browser, then you'll need the Flash Player projector. However, based on your previous comments this doesn't appear to be what you are trying to do.
Google Chrome does embed Flash Player in it, while Firefox does not. Mozilla has also recently started blocking older versions of Flash Player in Firefox similar to what Apple is doing in Safari.
Following the 'clean install' instructions should result in you having the latest version of Flash Player installed that will not be blocked by the browser.

notes : on snow leopard the face time was work normally but i delete it the app i thought it will work after i reinstall itLion comes with FaceTime. Look in your dock or in the Applications folder.

Hi, I have Mac with Snow Leopard and was trying to purchase Lion , so I can move to I cloud, when trying to buy the app I get a message that a minimum 2gb of memory is required. I went check the hard disck info and it says available memory 20gb :-(

But it would seem you don't have 2GBs installed and more then likely both RAM slots are already filed. So you just need to buy more RAM in a pair. That could be 2 1GBs chips or if your Mac can have more then that then 2 2 GB chips or 2 4GB chips.
Get your model # and go to Crucial.com and use their memory search to find out how much your Mac can have installed and the price for it. I suggest you install as much as it can take. Cost is very low on RAM these days. -

Hi, I'm having a tough time, figuring out how to print duplex documents in my Epson l210 printer. The "double sided" option has been greyed out under the "print --> layout " dropdown menu. After reading several discussions and solutions, it seems lik
