I have been using Office 2004 for a long time, and about three years ago purchased the then new Office 2011 . I installed it but did not like it and removed it from my computer, Now I would like to install it--the computer rejects the disc. Is there anything I am doing wrong? How canI make it work. Using spotlight, I did not find any traces of the old installation. Thank you!

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
      left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
      your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
        /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.
Visit www.mactopia.com where you can download the trial version of Office 2011. Install it then register it using your registration number that you have for the DVD.
It would be a good idea to uninstall Office 2004, but it shouldn't be necessary. You can dump the old Office 2004 folder in your Applications folder.

On the Mac Air launch iTunes. Then connect either the iPad or iPhone.
Select the iPad or iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.
Then select Apps from the menu on the right.
If you don't see the apps listed there, from your iTunes menu bar (top of your screen), click Store > Authorize This Computer.
See if that makes a difference...

Have you checked your Control Panel to make sure you don't have the flashlight turned on?
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and make sure the flashlight icon (bottom left-hand corner) is not white. If it is, tap on it to turn it off.

Set System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Set to Mac App Store and identified developers. Leaving it to Anywhere is not advised. You can always select to install if it's a legitimate app.
I would disable all your plugins and extensions in your browsers. If the problem goes away, add back one at a time and make sure they are fully updated.
Are you still using a Blackberry. Their software is still running.
Make sure Flash is fully updated. Even with it set to automatic it often fails to update. I suggest you also turn it off and see if there is an improvement. many sites will use HTML5 if Flash is not installed. Install YouTube5 Safari extension

Harddrive died and replaced it with a new WD 320. Used Snow Leopard to intall OS Disk Utility to Restore from TimeMachine. It appears to have 'pasted' the backup from TimeMachine on to the WD320. Tried to start OS and it says that WD320 is a backup and won't run from it. What do I do?

IIt was in my mind to load office then transfer. After to load paralels and transfer my windows system. I have a new copy of office for Mac plus paralels PC to Mac transfer version 8. As this is my first mac (I have ipads and iphones) I am unsure of what to do. Use the Office for Mac and ignore using Parallels for that. If you have PC only apps you have to run that are MS Windows only then consider Parallels. Just transfer your main PC, using Migration Assistant. If you don't know how then simply read over Pondini's article called Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips and look for the section on migrating from a PC. Millions have done what you are about to, it's far from leading edge these days, if you go to an Apple Store to purchase they will offer this as a service, something you might be interested in.

You need a Firewire cable to run between the two Macs. Using Utility>Migration Assistant running on your new MacBook Pro, transfer what you want (with all the preferences and such) from your MacBook to your MBP. Here's more info from Apple.
You might have an issue with the Serial number for Office, but hopefully you have that around.

if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.

You could purchase any commonly available external USB DVD/CD writer, such as the excellent LG brand units sold on Amazon, for about $30 US. I've used an LG writer for years to save wear and tear on my older Superdrive.

If it indeed has been converted from Numbers to Excel, it will have a .xlsx suffix at the end of the name. Do a Get Info on the file if the suffix doesn't show. Else, it may still be in Numbers format and be unreadable by Excel.
If it is in the right format, and you don't want to have to do what mende1 has instructed above for every successive file, click on the "Always open with..." option. That will associate the .xlsx suffix to Excel from thereon.

unfortunately - you can not. you can't even buy outlook by itself at microsoft's own website.
does it have to be outlook? maybe you can get away with using something else that's outlook compatible.
how about trying Thunderbird for Mac OS?
or maybe you can call apple and let them know you purchase the wrong version - they might give you a break and just pay the difference for the home and business version.
