I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8; I am trying to install Mac OS X Lion
I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard professional 10.6.8 update
I am trying to install Mac OS X Lion.
I get an error message: other users are logged on.
I have three accounts: William G Cullen; Guest; williamgcullen.
I have tried to delete williamgcullen, but it asks for a password; I have tried every password I know and can't open it. I also did not set up this account.
how do I solve this problem?

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. If the lower left, there is a lock icon. Click on it and type in your password to make changes.
Then, select the account you want to remove and press the - symbol.

Can that retail DVD be used to erase and install on a Leopard 10.5.8?
Or can you only do that with the discs that came with the computer? One pitfall is if you don't have the minimum 1 GB of RAM, Snow Leopard will be very slow to work. Also make sure your hard drive after the installation is less than an arbitrary 85% full. This amount has been found to be the break even point where all versions of Mac OS X can get messed up. Otherwise, check my FAQ* for other possible compatibility concerns:

Want new Mac Pro With Snow Leopard
I am after a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.
I understand that some of the newer Mac Pros can have Snow Leopard installed. Some tell me that in the recent past Apple made a change that made installation of Snow Leopard difficult or impossible on a Mac Pro.
Does anyone know with a reasonable degree of certainty how to tell if a given Mac Pro can have Snow Leopard installed?
I called Apple about a refurbished Mac Pro, they don't know what operating system it will come with! And they don't know if it will include OS installation disks. For what it is worth, I recently went through this drama.
Well, it's worth a lot!
it is theoretically possible for Apple to modify the firmware to prevent Snow from booting, but my experience is that this has not happened yet.
How long ago did you purchase your Mac Pro? (I miss the old days, when users would modify their own firmware.)
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out. There are some nice retailers out there, especially when you are dropping $1000s on a new Mac Pro.
I've been looking for a while now, Mac Pro sellers that have Snow Leopard know how valuable there machines are. There are no bargains if you want snow leopard.
We couldn't install Snow directly on the Mac Pro, so I installed on another computer (an older Mac Pro), and updated to 10.6.8 and swapped the drive across. This worked without issues.
I currently own a 2008 Mac Pro (2,1) with 10.6.8
See if you can buy from a seller who will let you test this out.
Why not Apple? They have a 15 Day return policy. When I called Apple recently the person I spoke to suggested this. -
Is Xcode 4.1 compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
Is Xcode 4.1 compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard? Is Xcode 3.2.6 compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
Hello
Xcode 4.1 is only available for download within the AppStore on OS X Lion (which is free)
Xcode 4.2 is also only available on the AppStore but you need a paid membership of the developer program
However you can still download Xcode 3.2.6 (the last snow leopard compatible version) if your a registered developer at http://developer.apple.com (which is free)
Hope this helps

How do I get iTunes to show up so I can make playlists and burn CD's as I was able to do in MAC OS X Snow Leopard? I upgraded to MAVERICKS so that I could have iCloud capabilities.

I have a macbook white (Snow leopard), just started using mac, Is there anyway we can use the Iphone Apps( downloaded from ITune) on Mac, they are getting saved in Mobile applications and have ipa extension
The operating systems for iOS devices and for Macs are completely different. Applications written for iOS won't run on a Mac no matter what fiddles you try with it. You can sometime extract data by opening the package, but it still won't do you any good. Look in the Mac App Store in your Applications folder to see if there are Mac versions or similar programs (iTunes login required).

I am trying to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. When I insert the disk and install starts, it states "This disk is used for Time Machine backups" and Mac OSX can't be installed. Does anyone know how to correct this (since Tiger doesn't have Time Machine)?

I have Os Lion on my mac book pro, im not a fan of this because i cant run many games, i have the disk for snow leopard my machine came with but i get a error saying "unable to unmount disc" when i try erase my hard drive i just want OS SL back any help?
many thanks Carl. You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

Hi I have just received Mac OS X Snow leopard but when I tried to install it i couldn't as I have forgotten the password for the mac and I can't find the disk for OS X 10.5.8 its running on. Is there any way to install the new software without both of these?
you can reset your password. restart, and hold down Command-s before the apple logo appears (when the screen is white). you will see scrolling scripts until you see something like "root:" then type /sbin/mount -uw / to mount the disk. after that, type sudo passwd admin or whatever your admin password is. type in the new password two times. it doesn't show what you typed when you type the password so make sure you are pressing the right keys. after you done that, type exit to start up the computer. now you will be able to login with the new password.

i have a mac os x snow leopard. my problem is that when i go to the ethernet settings it shows 'not connected'. i called the internet person even he couldn't fix it PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
System Preferences > Network > Ethernet? If that shows "not connected" that is all your Mac knows. As far as it is concerned there is no cable connected to the port on your Mac, or the other end of the cable is either disconnected or connected to something that is broken.
Try another cable. If the cable is broken you will also get that status message. If you have exhausted all of these possibilities, the only remaining cause is an inoperative port on your Mac. -

Had to restore my Mac Book with Snow Leopard. My i Life disc appears to be damaged, and I can't restore my iPhoto application. I have searched for downloads but all appear to be upgrades. Any ideas on how to restore iphotos
Given what you describe you will have to upgrade Snow Leopard by downloading and installing Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then go to the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Purchase and download Mountain Lion to upgrade your OS. Then purchase the latest upgrades for the iLife applications which includes iPhoto.
Or you can go on eBay, Google, or Amazon and purchase another copy of the DVD based iLife.

Dual booting pre-installed Windows 8 and Linux?
I just bought a G780 with Windows 8 pre-installed. Ideally, I would also like to install some flavor of Linux. I've been searching but not finding much info on how difficult or time-consuming this would be, or if there are any special considerations
