I have a 10.5.8 and would need to know how to upgrade the soft ware ? . or do I need to buy a new computer.

Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • I have Mac OSX 10.5.8, how do I update my OS?

I have Mac OSX 10.5.8 on a 2007 iMac. I am trying to figure how to get Lion as my operating system. Can I do it online or do I need a CD?

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

I have Mac OSX 10.7.5. How can i upgrade to 10.9 as all teh new apps require new OS?

Before upgrading, you need to first determine if you meet all of  Maverick's system requirements.
Click on the Mac tab at the top of this website & read Maverick's tech specs.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 which works on OS X 10.4 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • I have Mac OSX version 10.5.8 How can I upgrade to 10.6.8 or better?

I have Mac OSX version 10.5.8.  How or can I upgrade to 10.6.8 or better?  I need it so I can sync my iphone 5c.

Depending on the total installed RAM, you may wish to upgrade
the chip memory RAM as well as the Mac OS X system, too...
in addition to retail OS X DVD, Niel pointed to in the link.
according to http://mactracker.ca database RAM specs are:
    Maximum Memory
8.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
...if yours is as stated, MacBook5.1 Aluminum 13-inch Late-2008
    Good luck

  • HT4910 My iTunes is up to date on my mac OSX 10.4.11 - how do I get access to iCloud?

My iTunes is up to date on my mac OSX 10.4.11 - how do I get access to iCloud?

For iCloud, you need a version of iTunes 10, and 10.4.11 only supports up to 9.2.1.  10.4 offers no iCloud access, while 10.5 and 10.6 have limited access.  Only 10.7 and 10.8 are integrated with iCloud.

  • Firefox 4.0 will not download at all, I get the circle with a slash. I have mac osx.

I had firefox 3.6, downloaded free upgrade, which totally replaced the old one, it's gone.
But the new icon has a circle and slash on it and is not viable. Doesn't work, doesn't open, messages says: You cannot open the application Firefox.app because it is not supported on this system.
    I have Mac OSX 10.4.11.

Same problem, but I'm on OSX 10.5.8 - non Intel mac.
Wording is actually "... because it is not supported on this architecture."
Ironic that I have to use Safari to post this. :)

I have MAC OSX 10.5.8 and need to install adobe illustrator. I checked the compatibility and found that CS5 will work. Can any one help where i can find it. The trail version is fine with me as i just have to use it for couple of days till i get my mac book back from service. Can any one help me on this.

    You are welcome, ameronweb.
To elaborate a bit, you may come across offers of a new/unopened/unregistered version, which is the simplest case (you would need a guarantee). Other cases require much detailed information (and a guarantee).
If upgrading to 10.6.8 or higher is an option, you could use CS6.

  • I have mac osx 10.6.8 and I keep getting update notices that do nothing, just search for update server. Happens every day. What can you or I do to fix this?

I have mac osx 10.6.8 and I keep getting update notices that do nothing, just search for update server. Happens every day. What can you or I do to fix this? Other people I work with and use macs have the same issue.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.
