I have Mail Version 2.1 (752/752.2Sometimes it sends, sometimes it doesn't.

As I mention in the subject line, sometimes the send happens, sometimes I get a message that the email can't be sent, try a different outgoing box, try again later.
Sometimes I bring it back up and hit send, sometimes I quit mail and opent it again an the mail is sent.
Is this a known bug or just me?
Regards,
Ty Ford

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Mail keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there. The Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.

Some have reported success simply by reinstalling the update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
Or download and apply, or reapply, the 10.6.8 Combo update first, then apply the Security Update again.

I'd suggest starting with the simplest of these fixes, so look them over first.

    Hi ...
The Mail app is not available for downloading.
You need to reinstall the Mail app from your install discs.

  • I deleted my Mail app sometime back. I reinstalled it again, today, on my Macbook Snow Leopard Mac OS but when I try launching Mail, it says ' You have Mail version 4.0(1075/1085). It can't be used on Mac OS X version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)",

The Mail version for your machine is 4.6 (1085)   You can get it via the Combo updater.  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Then follow with software updates to pick up the most recent security and iTunes updates.

Download and run the 10.6.8 combo updater from Apple. That should get your Mail app up to the latest version.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
By some reason, Mac OS X has kept a Mail version that it's not compatible with your Mac OS X version instead of updating Mail. First, I recommend a 10.6.8 reinstall > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
If this doesn't work, reinstall Mac OS X. Insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD, hold the C key while your computer is starting and reinstall Mac OS X

It's hard to deal with such a thing in a bulletin board environment. The possibility of that didn't occur to me.
Everything is working great now; both incoming & outgoing!
    I'm glad you were successful.
My Apple support person sent me this link to forward to you and the boards: http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/
That could be useful for others in the future. I've bookmarked it.

  • Mail Version 2.1.1 (752.3) Junk Mail Buttons Don't Work

I have ... Reset junk mail.
The problem occurs before and after junk mail is reset and junk mail learning mode is active for any number of days.
When I get junk mail in my inbox and click on it once and then use either the "Not Junk" icon in Toolbar or "Not Junk" button in message header, Mail treats the message as not junk. When another e-mail arrives from same sender, it's again marked as junk. I've noticed that some messages revert to the "junk" colour even after they are marked as not junk.
I've repaired permissions and restarted the iMac and restarted Mail app.
Wonder if I have the latest version of Mail? Please help. Thanks
iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Have dual boot with XP Pro on "other side"

Have you made any changes to the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced? Try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the junk filter rule.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t change anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
You can use the Colors palette (Format > Show Colors) to manually change the background highlight of messages in the message list. Although the Colors palette cannot be used to set the foreground color, it can be used to remove it. In particular, choosing either black or white removes both the background highlight and the foreground color of the messages currently selected in the message list.

  • I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and now my mail won't open. It displays this message now-You have Mail version 5.3 (1283/1278). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.7.4 (Build 11E53). For more information, click the Help button. Strange.

    STRANGE, RIGHT?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
They are different problems because I doubt that iTunes has been able to modify Mail, that has nothing to do with iTunes.
As you are running 10.7.4, download and install OS X 10.7.5, the most recent Lion version > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1582 After installing the update, you should be able to run Mail

  • Mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be use on Mac OS X 10.6.8(Build 10K549) ?  --- please help

I just clicked software updated and after installed items that showed me to install - now mail won't work at all.  I get the following message, "You have Mail version 4.2 (1084/1085).  It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button."  Help offers three suggested fixes, none of which have worked.  What more can I do to fix this problem?
I also check that Mail.app is in the Application folder. So any suggestion would appreciate.
Ps. should I try to re-install the Security Update (2012-004) .... if yes how can I do it?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Mac mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)

At some stage today I did an update which has killed Mac Mail.
I have read the forums, performed a combo update 10.6.8 with no result, I still get the error
You have Mail version 4.5(1084/1085). It can't be used on OS X Version 10.6.8 ( Build 10K5489)
    Any thoughts?

Thanks mate but Software update is indicating that I am all up to date.
I have booted off an older clone and mail was fine. I may have to go for a fresh install of the system but it annoys me to have to do that. It's gotta be something simple!

  • Mail version 6.5 is running slow

I have Mail version 6.5 on a desk top iMac (10.8.4) 27inch. Mail is becoming very slow.
    Can it be fixed?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Error stating mail version too old after 10.6.8 update

I upgraded 3 Intel Macs to Snow Leopard.  A Macbook, Mac Pro and an iMac.  After the upgrade I ran software update and updated to 10.6.8.  This worked without issue on the Macbook and Mac Pro.
However, on the iMac, when I open mail, I get the following message:
You have Mail version 4.2 (1078/1084). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button.
I've tried reinstalling Mail from the Optional Installs on the Snow Leopard install disk.  I've also moved the com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop.  None of this is making any difference.

Good call here.  I had already done all updates, no new updates were available, that's what was so confusing, mail should have been updated.  Then I looked all over for a way to get to find a version of Mail 4.5, no dice.
I spend all day on Windows at work and then come home and forget things like the ability to grab an Application from another machine and drag it to my desktop.  That suggestion did the trick and I'm back in business.
    Thanks
