I have "migrated" my Time Capsule files to my new iMac and most of the files to me "I don't have permission to view files" I am they admin....will I thought I was. What gives?

You should be able to change the permissions on the files.. this is yet another bungle by Mavericks I suspect.

The TC is very hard to just move.. it retains too much of the old network setup.. buried deep in the bowels of the firmware configuration files.. or even on the hard disk special partitions used by the TC.. invisible to you btw.. !!
Do a factory reset and setup from scratch.
That factory reset will have no affect on your backups.. even if you rename the TC.. not a bad things since you also want clients to respond to the new network.. simply reset TM to the new TC name and location.

Factory reset.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...

Hi there, I am a great fan of doing films. the big problem is I have filled up the hard drive on my Mac Pro. I have 1 Teribyte Time Capsul where everything is automatically backed up. I want to use this to transfer my iMovies file to the Time Capsul to create more sapace on my MacPro. If I do this will it create problems when I use iMovie?

HT1175 3TB time capsule not working with new iMac

I have a 3TB time capsule that's c. 2 years old. It worked perfectly with my old iMac. I bought a new 27" one when it came out this year and since the time capsule will not work.
I had to clear all the data as a starter. Now it gets a little into the backup taking c. 1 day then resets. It's connected via ethernet cable and has been told to join an existing network.
Currently it says it's backing up 922,498 items, after 2 hours (this is the third attempt, it resets then has no record of the old backup) it says 10kb of 789.44 GB - About 4,664,440 days remaining!!
To clarify I'm trying to use Time Machine with the Time Capsule.

You have made a mistake in the setup.
You do not "Join an existing networking" and use ethernet.. they are mutually exclusive.
What you are doing is backing up over double hop wireless which is slowing to a crawl.
You need to put the TC into bridge mode.. and plug it into the main router by ethernet. Then use wiretess to the TC if you are too far away or ethernet if you are close by..
As soon as you put the TC into join a wireless network it deactivates the ethernet.

Migration Assistant using firewire not working between new iMac and G5. Ah!

I unpacked my new iMac 21.5' last nite and spent three painful hours trying to use Migration Assistant to tranfer files from my old iMac G5, which is using OS X 10.4.11.
I follow all of the instructions ver batim: connect the 400/800 firewire between the old and the new iMacs, start migration assistant on the new iMac, reboot the old iMac holding down the 'T' key until the firewire symbol pops up on the screen. At that point, the new iMac sits there with the message 'waiting for the other iMac to restart.' It never seems to recognize the old iMac. I tried rebooting, reconnecting the cable, etc. No luck.
I also tried using the ethernet option with no luck. The computers find each other but after entering the 'code' twice, the old mac gets stuck 'searching for other computers on the network.'
Any advice? I'd really like to use my new iMac!!!!

May not help but give this a try on the G5:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
I would also first turn off both computers then connect the FW cable. If both computers have a FW800 port then you can use a standard FW800 cable. Boot the G5 into TDM. After the TDM screen appears boot the new computer normally.

Can I use a Time Capsule on a hard wired iMac and get wireless to other devices?

I have a 6 year old iMac that does not have an airport extreme card. I have it connected to a cable modem ARRIS model TM502G which is also the VOIP for my telephone. My question is, if I buy a Time Capsule, will I be able to have wi-fi for other devices like an iPad or iPhone even though my computer is not wi-fi? If so, can you describe the order in which to hook up the Time Capsule to the existing modem and computer. Thanks so much.

That is not the correct approach.. but you can do what you want.
Plug the TC into the cable modem.. Turn both off and restart the modem and the TC.. if there is a battery backup in the modem you may need to disconnect the coax cable in the back of the unit or drop the battery out.
Plug ethernet from the old mac into the TC.. use the wifi for the other devices.
Trying to route through the mac will be a pain.
A TC is not necessary for this.. if you don't want a backup disk.. you can use AEBS or any wireless router.

I have transferd music from my ipod to my new computer and some of the files are not coming over, i have noticed the m4a files come across but the mp3 do not, any ideas how i can resolve this? thanks

I have just bought a new computer and i am transfering my music from my ipod onto my new computer, I have put the files from the music option from my ipod onto my computer. alot of the songs have come across, however there is alot of songs that havent. I have noticed that the m4a files come across but the mp3 does not. the new computer has windows 8 on it, which is very new to me. when i try and play the mp3 files, it will open them up in a different programme and will not open in itunes. does anyone know what i can do?!?!!?!?!

OK, so I just got my new 1TB Time Capsule, set it up and am ready to start designing my backup strategy for home. I'd like to do a few things, and looking for some advice:
1. I am currently using Time Machine to backup my iMac to an external 250MB drive. I want to switch over my Time Machine backups to the new Time Capsule (which I think I can handle), but then I want to format my other external drive and move my video files over to it to free up disk space on my iMac. Once I do that, how do I tell Time Machine to look for that external 250MB drive as well so that it backs up my video files? I see how to exclude files from the Time Machine backup process, but I'm not sure how to explicitly tell Time Machine to back up other drives outside the main HD.
2. I also use a Windows XP machine for work and would like to configure Time Machine to look for that machine when I'm connected at home and back up certain files on the Time Capsule. Will it do this...or do I need to login to the Time Capsule from the Windows machine and do this manually over the network share (or use SyncToy or something). If this is the case, am I better off "partitioning" the Time Capsule drive so that Time Machine can use, let's say 750MB of the space and I keep 250MB in reserve for the WIndows Machine?

Yes, turn off the wireless on the TC if you want to do this.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the TC, and click Edit
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the page
Change Wireless Mode to Off
Update to save the new settings

I just bought a new iMac and am ready to purchase Logic Pro X, but I have a Presonus Fire Studio Project with a firewire 400 as my connection. Will this work with my new iMac? I purchased the Presonus around 2007.

I just bought a new iMac 10.9 and am wanting to purchase Logic Pro X. My question is I have a 2007 Presonus Fire Studio Project 8 channel input box that hooks up with firewire 400 I believe, will this work with Logic ProX on my new iMac?

You will need a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter... may also need a Firewire 800 to 400 connector/adapter.
Also need to make sure Presonus has Maverick drivers for the FSP.

And have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader after you installed it? First run it, to prepare your iPhotLibrary for upgrading, and then launch iPhoto again to complete the upgrade of your library.

So i just got an 3T external hard drive and i have moved my itunes over to it successfully and have started using Time Capsule but is there a way to make things i download go directly to my external hard drive and not to my internal one?
