I have mono sound on my iPad

Do in need to replace the speaker? Or bring to any apple store for repair?

Hi stedman1,
Interrestingly enough, I used your recommendation for a similar issue. I actually had to enable "mono" in the accessibility.
The tv show I was watching only had the left channel in the hearphones. So I decided to analyze its content with a video editing software. After extracting the audio from the movie I opened it up with Sound Forge. Surprisingly, it contained 2 channels and *was* therefore a stereo file. I still failed to understand why my iPad played it in mono. Further analysis on the audio revealed that it was "fake" stereo (i.e. a mono channel that is merely duplicated to make a stereo audio content).
I am guessing that the iPad is "clever" enough to detect this and plays it only on one of the output channels. I am using "PlayerXtreme" to watch my videos but no setting in there (sighs).
Enabling "mono" in the accessibility settings is in this case actually replicating the left channel to the right one and at least the 2 speakers of the headset work even though when a door slams on the left of the screen, it appears to be in the middle :-(.
Anyway thanks for your tip! It saved me hours of extracting/modifying/resaving the video with a proper stereo stream for dozens of TV shows!

I have lost sound on my iPad in apps unless I use headphones ,does anyone know how to get sound back without them .I have used the mute volume on the bar at bottom of screen and the slider volume control there only shows when headphones are plugged in !
I also tried resetting settings all to no avail ...I looked up some advice and watched utube video advice on how to fix without success..
The volume control button on side does not work ,I got the iPad last August and wonder if it is a fault that means I must return it for replacement from where it was purchased ?

The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

I don't have any sound on my iPad.

  • I have no sound on the iPad.  What happened?

I think I have tried everything!  No sound on the iPad. I have tried resetting it. I have double tapped the home button to get to the sound bar. I think I've checked everything!  Please help me!!!

Could you have muted it? THere's a little switch by the volume toggle that can serve as either rotation lock or 'all mute'. If you have it set as all mute (you can do this in setting/general) then if you flip that switch it totally silences your iPad.

  • HT4623 I have no sound on my iPad after installing iOS 7 tried everything even reset

After downloading iOS7 I have lost all sound on my iPad, tried reset and just about every other settings but still silent - frustrated and ready to chuck it in the bin.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • I don't have any sound on my iPad games. How do I fix this?, I don't have any sound on my iPad games. How do I fix this?

I don't get sound on my iPad 2 games purchased from the App Store like mine raft, mega run, and order up!  My speakers work because there is sound when using YouTube, music, Netflix, and videos.  How can I get the sound for my games back?

    You have system sounds muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

  • I have no sounds on my ipad 2

My i pad 2 is not ringing for face time and no clicks on keyboard Or other sounds
Have tried every thing sugested on hear  already

ave you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • I have no sound on my iPad!

I'm not sure, but there may have been some kind of dirt on the charger plug last time I charged it. When I push the physical sound button on the side, nothing happens. There is sound when I adjust the volume in settings, that test sound. When I double-click the home screen button, and look at the volume slider, there is just a line, no slider. It's like the iPad doesn't have an speakers. I have tried to attach a headset, and it worked.
I have also tried turning it on and off, rebooting and reset all settings. Nothing works!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I have surround sound with my LCD TV.  Will my new iPad into an HDML connection be able transmit surround sound via Utube, iTunes or whatever?

I have surround sound with my LCD TV.  Will my new iPad into HDML connection and Utube, iTunes etc. produce surround sound?

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
    Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.
    FWIW
