I Have Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.2 - Click to c...
The new skype button in the safari toolbar shows a dialog inviting me to download skype and start calling for free all over the world. As if I had no idea what this skype thing was and wasn't already paying for skype in and out services - I guess I'm just installing and paying for stuff at random with no idea what I'm doing. I'm sure glad the click to call extension is giving me such great advice.
No numbers get highlighted either.
Also, what I really wanted was to use it in Chrome.
Just a few regexes in a Chrome content extension to inject a skype: link. Surely the might of Microsoft should be able to accomplish this?!
I suggest that you run software update, after which you should have Safari 6.0.5 - then check Safari - Preferences - Privacy & see that 'Block cookies' is not set to Always.
Failing that - switch Safari extensions Off via Safari - Preferences - Extensions & test again

I use SalesForce for my client CRM. I've just received a notice informing me that they are upgrading from SHA-1 hash to SHA-256 for increased HTTPS certificate security. Will my current OS X version (Mountain Lion) and Safari version (6.2.2) support this upgrade?
NEVERMIND! SalesForce provided a test page and I was able to determine that both my Mac and Windows environments and browsers support the upgrade.

I just installed Mountain lion and i can't get time machine to work. every time i connect it time machine starts but then ejects the drive. I also tried to back up direct to the hard drive with the software that came with the drive and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue as to what may be wrong?
When that happens, you should get some sort of message. If you don't remember it exactly, go to the Time Machine Preferences window -- there should be a red "Failed" message and icon there. Click the icon to see the message. Either report the wording or post a screenshot.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs. Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs. Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here. -
Upgraded to Mountain Lion and Safari now crashes everytime
I cannot load and run Safari following upgarding to Mountain Lion, here's the error messages, if anyone could help I'd be very grateful:

If you are saying that you still have the QT 7 player v7.6.6 installed in the "Applications/Utilities" folder but that when you load a movie into the app the "Pro" features are greyed out, then it sounds as if your registration key may have been lost during the Mountain Lion upgrade process. If that is the case, simply locate your registration information ("Registered To:" name and the "Registreation Key") in your "Thank You/Confirmation" email (or wherever you keep a copy of this information stored) and re-enter them into the QT 7 app registration window to re-activate the "Pro" features. -
Can I install Mountain Lion and Mavericks on same computer
Stupidly I installed Mavericks over Mountain Lion without checking whether Quark XPress 9.5.3.1 would work with Mavericks.
It won't.
I have re downloaded Mountain Lion and need to know whether I can run both on same computer - and how to do that - any help appreciated.
Thanks.Lady on Macintosh wrote:

Sure you can. Erase one of your partitions and install the OS of your choice on it. You can have as many operating systems on a Mac as you want. Use Startup Manager to select the OS you want to boot. Virtualization software is another option.
Both the Mavericks and Mountain Lion installers will permit you to select the partition on which it is to be installed.
If you don't tell us the errors that resulted from using Lion Disk Maker no one can begin to guess the reason, but no matter, you don't need the USB installer. Just use the App Store.
You can save the installer anywhere you like to use as often as you wish, so you don't have to download it each time.
It looks like this
You have to copy it before running the installer because the installer conveniently erases the 5+ GB file after the installer is finished with it. -
Downloaded Mountain Lion and can't open Logic Express,How do you fix?
Wouldn't let me open 9.1.7 upgrade before because I didn't have Mountain Lion, and now I can't open Logic 9.0.0 to put the upgrade on.
Check this site:
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table/tags/_l/index_tags/_l
Shows some problems with Logic Pro 9 in ML (Logic express appears fine).
Just a wild guess: Is the installer of your version a PowerPC App? I have Final Cut Express - it is universal, but the installer is PPC and I can't use it to install. As a workaround, I have a working Snow Leopard partition and copied every file from there onto the same location on ML - it works fine. That assumes you know where all the files are located. -
I have mountain lion OSX and parallels with Windows. Every time I click on a hyperlink in other applications it opens - some 7 Zip file explorer inside Parallels but doesn't go to Safari. Does anyone know solution?
I suggest that you run software update, after which you should have Safari 6.0.5 - then check Safari - Preferences - Privacy & see that 'Block cookies' is not set to Always.
Failing that - switch Safari extensions Off via Safari - Preferences - Extensions & test again -
Hi folks,
I tried downloading the latest OS X Mountain Lion and [after a long time... I have a slow connection] I got an error message ... We could not complete your purchase The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
Everytime I retry or continue the download I just keep getting the same error message!!!
What can I do to get my product?
PMThe only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down. Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS
Hope it helps. -

I recently updated to OS X mountain Lion and activated ICloud, my bookmarks have automatically been changed to those of my iPad, is there any way to reverse this?
First, you need to go to System Preferences -> iCloud and uncheck the Safari item to prevent syncing bookmarks (among other things) between Safari on your Mac and Safari on your iPad.
Then you need to restore your bookmarks file from a backup. To find the bookmarks file, go to your user Library folder (which is now invisible, so hold down the option key and choose Library from the Finder's Go menu), then look in the Safari folder that's in there. There should be a file called Bookmarks.plist. Replace it with an older version from a backup. -
Have installed Mountain Lion and need Java. Help
Hi,
I installed Mountain Lion this past week.
I am subscribed to two games sites. They both require me to have Java to use them.
I read after I installed ML that there is no Java in this. However, I guess I still had the Apple Java from Snow Leopard.
But, I thought I had to install Java 7 (think at some point I was asked to update Java and it took me to that.
I then read that Chrome can't use the Java I had installed.
So I then tried to use Safari.
Then I picked up FireFox again. I used to have FireFox but had not used it in a while.
Finally managed to get FireFox to run the one site. Quadplex.
However nothing would allow me to use Pogo. I can get to the main page on Pogo, but when I try to activate the games there, it sits and loads and loads and eventually as it SHOULD open it just up and disappears!
Eventually in some of my searching, I read that Java 7 is not secure. That there is a security issue in it.
I searched until I found where I could uninstall Java 7. And I did that. Then I clicked on the link that said I could install the Apple Java that I had managed to get rid of originally (well I assume it is gone since even after a restart, Safari does not let me play anything requiring Java.
I tried to reinstall the Apple Java and got to what I had read was the "terminal". I began to try the commands that were posted on the Apple support page I was on, but it asked for an Administrator Password. To my knowledge I have never had that on my Mac. I usually just click where the window pops up to ask for it and that window goes away and I can install anything without entering any password. But in the "terminal" I tried to just click on the return to go to the next step in the commands routine and it would not allow me to continue.
I am on a MacPro 15" purchased in August 2009 and which has been refurbished due to me having spilled a drink all over the keys area of it in November of 2010. It has been working great until I went ahead and installed Mountain Lion and now have removed the Java download as I read it is not secure and can expose Mac users to something refered to as "drive by" viruses.
I am really at a loss here. The tech I would normally go to may or may not be available this week and I really am frustrated by missing out on my daily gaming.
Any one here who can help with my problem?
Thanks, Carine (aka catonwheels)Thanks Baltwo...and yes it did...by the time I got your response (and it was great that you sent it!) I had already FINALLY found that I needed 7u11 and then found THAT! I had tried to find it after reading about it somewhere during my surfing for a solution but couldn't seem to find it and then when I clicked on an update link SOMEWHERE I was taken right to it. I remembered that the original Java I had downloaded did not have 11 in it and so I downloaded the one that was at that link where I was taken and voila! It worked...however, had I NOT found it having you respond to my help plea would have fixed it and I thank you for taking the time. I had gone to Oracle originally to find this update but somehow I did not get it the first time round. So this would have been great had I not fallen over it when I did. Again, thank you and now at least I am in this community and will have a lot of support and info when I need it! :-)

Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro now, and due to my hard drive needing repair, I need to boot off of another source, like my flash drive. I am in Paris and my Snow Leopard DVD is in Texas.
Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck. As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.” As the Mac boots in this mode, the screen reports each step of the process. The line should end in root#. Right after the root# prompt, enter the following: /sbin/fsck -fy
If repairing the disk in single user mode fails, it means one of two things. Either your hard drive itself is failing (a hardware failure), or the directory damage on your hard drive is beyond the capability of the built-in repair procedures in OS X. -
I have both Mac OS Mountain Lion and Windows 8.1 32-bit installed....The machine is Macbook Mid 2009...Whatever i do i can't install and use bootcamp on the Windows side.........Apple Support says it only supports Windows 64-bit which my machine cannot install.......and when i tried to install Bootcamp 4 it says it only supports Windows 7 .........Is there no way to install and use Bootcamp without buying another computer?
Boot Camp - Apple Support
Boot Camp- System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems -
I don't know how to do this. I typed the question in the bar above, but apparently need to type it again here. I lost my entire address book when I installed Mountain Lion and have been unable to recover it. I know the information is in there as when I type in someone's name in an email the address always shows up right away. How can I find the information for my contacts and restore my address book? Do I need to go to the Apple Store that is 2 hours away and have an expert help me or can I find out how to do it online for free myself?
The auto-complete in Mail addresses comes from two sources: (1) The "Previous Recipients" list, which can be viewed via Mail > Window > Previous Recipients. (2) Your Address Book (now called "Contacts").
If you did in fact lose your Address Book - are you sure you don't have "Contacts" in your Applications Folder? - It sounds like you are getting addresses from source (1). If you did in fact lose your Address Book (now called "Contacts" !!), you will have to restore it from a backup.
