I have moved my itunes library to a new PC.  All but approximately 100-150 songs will synch to my ipod.  It says "not authorized" but when I authorize it, it says "already authorized"?  I thought possibly they were DRM files, but I can't tell?

Any ideas how to get all my songs synched on the ipod?  They are in my itunes library on the new PC.

Hi kellmack,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend the steps in this article if iTunes prompts you to authorize your PC to play some purchases after you've already authorized it:

I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone 4S. The iPhone will only accept music transfers from the original iTunes PC. I have come to understand that an iPhone can have only one "daddy" iTunes PC, but have not been able to find out how to change the "daddy". I have done a backup of the iPhone, and a "Restore to Original Settings". Then I restored the content using the new iTunes PC. My Apps and contacts, etc. are back on the iPhone, but it still won't accept music from the new iTunes PC.

What happens when you try to sync the iphone to the new computer?

Honestly, all the people in all the world that look at this forum, no-one can tell me why my itunes is causing my machine to fall over?
I wiped the machine and started again. Fresh XP install, fresh iTune download, fired it up imported one album and bang. Over it went. I've PC Checked the hard ware, mad onioned the system to see if it's a resource thing but it's rock solid until i open iTunes. Then after every re-boot, the message is back in the event log.

  • I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out".  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs using the new computer, there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out" during play back, similar to a small scratch on a vinyl record.  Although when I play the same song over again, the "miss" occurs in a different location during the song.  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Moving my iTunes library to a new PC

I got a new Dell XPS 210 (formerly using Dimension 4700) and have tried every online tutorial I can find about having my complete library show up on the new machine. I had my IT guy move all my music files to my new computer, but I only have about 290 songs of the 1629 showing up in my iTunes library on the new machine. (My iPod still shows me as having 1629 songs on it.) I've consolidated, etc and still no luck. Any help?

  • Hello, I'm trying to transfer my old itunes library to a new computer using home sharing. It's switched on in both computers, but I can't see the old library in the new computer. But I can see tracks from the new computer on the old one. Please help.

Apologies for poor syntax, my arm's a little sore. Yes, one computer (old) is vista, new is Windows 8. Shouldn't I be able to import the whole library using home sharing? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance

I am having the same issue.  I recently purchased a new laptop and I have spent the last 3 days using the home share to slowly transfer all 22,000 songs.  However yesterday morning when I turned on both computers to continue the process I am having the following issue:
both computers are running the same windows OS (8)
both computers are running the same version of itunes
both computers are logged in with the same apple ID
both computers have home sharing turned on
Now however I can see the NEW computers itunes library in the drop down box on the OLD computer, however I can not see the OLD computers itunes library on the NEW computer.  I can no longer see "HOME SHARES" on the drop down LIBRARY list on the new computer.  I've taken the following steps to correct the error:
    reset the router
completely shut down BOTH computers and brought them back up
    reopened itunes
    re-logged in on both PC's
re-activated both PC's with home share
The articles and help from the apple sites are worthless and it says if you can't see a library just turn home sharing off then back on - I've completed the above steps NUMEROUS times.  After spending 4 days on transferring my music I really do not want to have to start over by using an external hard drive and then importing that way.  I would like some help on discovering why the new laptop is no longer seeing my old library. (When it has been working up to this point)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Moved my iTunes library to my new 2TB time capsule, now iTunes can't find the Time Capsule.

Had my iTunes library on my older 1TB Time Capsule. Just bought a 2TB Time Capsule. Moved all the music from the old to the new. But, iTunes tells me now it can't find the server. I've checked the location of the library on the iTunes preferences, to point iTunes to my server. I keep getting an error message that iTunes can't find my server. I've already added the folder on the server to my login preferences, like it was with the older Time Capsule.
I did everything exactly as before but now iTunes can't find my Time Capsule.
Should I have just pointed the login to the server and not the exact folder? I've been working on the solution for an hour now.. Please, can someone here help me?

  • I need help with moving my iTunes library to a new disk...

I'm soon gonna get a new SSD which is half the size of my HDD. So i guess i wont be able to restore with time machine or use disk utility to clone the drive. I'll have to start with a fresh copy of moutain lion.
What I'll want to do is that keep all my music on my ssd and let all the podcast and itunes u be on an external hdd.
can someone outline the steps to...
create a library on the ssd on which os x is installed.
    move music, playlists and apps.
let the podcast and itunes u be on an external hdd and yet be accessible from itunes, like being referenced.
in the past i did this by moving the entire library to the internal drive and then while itunes was running, move the videos from the library folder to the external drive. it autoMAGICALLY was able to find the videos on the external drive while my music and apps were stored in the internal.
now my library size is so big with all the videos that i cannot do the above steps as i want be able to copy the entire library to the internal ssd.
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks in addvace.

Sometimes we sleep.  We have even been known to be away from the keybord to bathe (but usually not for longer than 2 minutes once a week ).
I don't know how you automagically did it last time - your details are lacking.  iTunes is normally terrible at following you moving things, especially from drive to drive.  You either have to let iTunes do the moving (by consolidating to a new location) or you have to disable iTunes managing your media in which case it will follow moving inside a drive but still not between drives.
Despite the new version, iTunes still does not make it easy to split your library between drives.  Probably since you only buy your items from iTunes and are never away from a high speed Internet connection it doesn't matter since you can always stream or download items you need from your Match subscription, right?

  • I've tried moving my iTunes library to an external hard drive but it is still on my local C drive?

    Hi there,
I am working on PC equipment here, not Apple.  I have tried consolidating my my iTunes library and changing the "iTunes Media folder location" to my external hard drive as described on some discussions on this website  and at first it seemed to work.  But when I disconnect my external hard drive (E: drive) and click my iTunes icon on my desktop, iTunes still comes from my local C: drive, so iTunes is still there taking up all my memory space on C:drive.  What I want to do is set up my iTunes to be entirely on my my external E: drive and not on my C:drive at all (it is taking up WAY too much memory on my c:drive).  So here are my questions:
    1.  If I have correctly copied all my iTunes library onto my E:drive - is it just a copy and all the original information is still in C;drive as well?  If so, how do I go about clearing my library in C:drive?
    2.  Do I have to 'unistall' iTunes from my C:drive to get rid of all my memory robbing iTune files.  If so, how can I make sure that all my information has been copied onto my external E:drive before I get rid of all my music?  I don't want to lose everything?
I just want to clear up my local C:drive on my laptop to get my memory back, what can I do?
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for your tip!!  I did that, but it says there's no files in the library.
Originaly in Itunes > preferences>advanced>under folder location I put in new path pointing to the Ex HD.  made a new folder for my son's library "Nick's Itunes Library". (Keep itunes media folder organized is checked).
    Clicked on change.
Then i was prompted ot move the exisiting files over which I did.  Went to File>Library>Organize Library>consolidate files>OK
I did all that.  I closed itunes, went to the external HD to verify all the files were there.  They were.  Went back into itunes on the mac mini HD and deleted the files one at a time.  I realize that this whole thing is not a deal breaker as it is all in iCloud.  And can be downloaded again if necessary.  But I want to know how to do this manually.
I just checked the external HD again. The files are there, Itunes isn't recognizing them is my guess.

  • HT1751 Hello, can you help? I have backed up iTune library to an external hard drive, but want to set up periodic back ups every month. Do I have to follow the "Consolidate file" procedure every time I back up, and does my original back become over writte

Hello can anyone help? I have sucessfully backed up  my iTuines library to an external hard drive, but when backing up in the furture (Monthly)  do I have to follow the same procedure again, and will this place an additonal copy of my iTunes library on my hard drive, so duplicating the back up and so rapidly fill my hard drive.
Ideally what I would like, is for the lateset back up to over write the original so saving space on my external hard drive. Many thanks ......Steve

The "consolidate" command has nothing to do with making backups. You use that command when you have had content in multiple places and you wish to have it now all in a single iTunes folder. If all of your content is already in the iTunes folder, then the "consolidate" command will be of no use to you. You will make further backups using whatever method you normally would use to make backups of your data in Windows.
    Regards.

  • Moving my itunes library onto my new ipod

I get a brand new 30 gig video capable ipod. Honestly I don't care about the video I just want the album covers as I browse my music. I've gone to great lengths to convert my old CD and tape collections to mp3 and even in spite of losing some hard drives over the years still have most of it. I supplemented JUST SOME of my still owned tapes and cd's out of convenience from Limewire and other such sources... but this is a very small part of my collection. SO... My legal library is mixed with all kinds of conversions as tech was available over the years is now in itunes. I buy this brand new spiffy 30 gig video ipod from the apple store yesterday on Michigan Ave.
I get it home and plug it into my stand by home (little used) imac... (purple if you must know) and proceed to watch itunes sync to it. It finishes and I look at my ipod... nothing in any music category at all... I reset it and do this again... nothing... mind you this is an imac running 10.3.9 and with itunes 7.1.1 Then I go to the support pages here and read some things on the internet that basically say if you didn't buy it from the apple itunes site or rip it with itunes... it won't be recognized by your ipod. Is this really true?
I can't put my legally purchased original copy of aqualung that I took the time to convert from tape via a convoluted mess of hardware into digital... let alone ultimately mp3 format... on my new nearly 300 dollar ipod???
My ipod shows in itunes fine and even shows the music (greyed) and the space it is taking etc. in itunes.
But if you scroll into the menu on the ipod, for music, there is nothing.
I had a 20 gig old ipod and the drive on it crashed but it didn't have all these rules etc. i'm reading about with it.
It was great until it died.
    What am I doing wrong?
I really can't sync my library to my new ipod unless I repurchase all this music?
Should I take a single box (of many boxes) of my CD's and tapes to Michigan ave. and drop them on the door to illustrate how much music I actually own?
Why does itunes say I'm sync'd and even show the space it took up on the ipod and yet not allow me to play anything as if I had no music on it?
    HELP!

Have you tried just resetting your iPod while it is connected to your computer?
I am assuming your iPod is showing a large amount of data in "Other" and nothing in music?
The problem may have to do with ID3 tags in your MP3 songs and not in the format of the songs, but you might right click on one in your iTunes, click Get Info and post the results here.
There is nothing that says if you didn't rip it with iTunes or buy it from iTunes it can't be on the iPod. There are posts here where people have used other converters and the resulting files have bit rates that cause problems for some iPods. And you can't play protected songs from other sources on the iPod with first burning them to CD and then ripping them. Whatever you read on the Internet was not correct, and you probably aren't going to collect from that Nigerian bank either.
Incidentally, acquiring music from Limewire and "other such sources" would make your statement of "My legal library" not quite true.

  • My Ipod touch will not synch all songs in my library - on my windows 8 laptop. Doesn't matter if the songs are checked or not - only some songs will synch to the IPOD. I have multiple devices and two accounts.

My IPOD touch will not synch all songs in my library. Library is on a windows 8 laptop. Checking the songs does not matter. I have multiple devices (ipod, IPhone 4 and 5, IPad 2) and two ITunes accounts.

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

  • I moved my itunes library to my new MacBook Pro from my iMac using an external harddrive following apple's steps. When I plug in my ipod shuffle 4g and try to download voiceover I get The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-54)

I'm just wondering what step I should start with to resolve this. There's probably a library issue but I'm not really sure where to start with that.
I'm pretty sure that the voice over is what is giving the error with itunes because when I try to download it, it won't then the error will pop up after a few moments of itunes trying to download it. Thanks for your support!

Don't know what changed today but it downloaded and installed on the shuffle. So far so good.

  • Moving my itunes library to a removable hard drive.

I have moved my itunes library to a removable hard drive.  Every time I try to trash my old itunes file and access the removable HD, I cant find it from iTunes.  the only thing I can get it to do is to reload (duplicate) the entire 30gb library on the HD I want it off of.  Now I have 2 duplicate versions of my library, but still can't get it to keep the files on the HD.  Can someone help?
    Mark

    Hey Mark -
I think it's helpful to understand how this whole process works, and along the way, maybe we'll find where things went wrong for your situation.
iTunes can take as much or as little control of your library as you like, and different settings may be turned on or off for you as it's not always standardized.
If you'd like your entire iTunes Library to be transferred to one centralized, organized location (wherever - a local directory or an external drive, whatever you like), here's what you need to do (and if it's not too late, here's what you need to go "back" and do to make this transition smoother).
    - Open iTunes with the default library (where you had it).
    - Select iTunes, Preferences, Advanced, and ensure that "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" are both checked. This ensures that your music files are actually going TO the iTunes folder (and not, for example, just being referenced in a downloads folder which you'll probably move or delete later, breaking all those links) and that iTunes will sort your media by Artist\Album\Track Number Song.xxx instead of just moving the file as-is to a different spot.
    - Select File, Library, Organize Library and check "Consolidate files" and "Reorganize files in the folder 'iTunes Media'". These two marks take anything up-to-this-point and consolidates them into the one location, then uses its sorting structure to file it all away.
Then, Mark, I think it's appropriate to exit iTunes, take that entire library folder (YourUsername\Music\iTunes\) and put it wherever you'd like it to go. To tell iTunes where your new library is, hold the Option key and click on the iTunes application, then "Choose Library" and reference your new location.
I think it's important to follow the preliminary steps first. I've run into instances with customers where they've moved their Library file, referenced it by Choosing the new Library, and then thought everything was fine, only to find two weeks later when they try to play an audio file that the file isn't found - and this happens because the user moved the library FILE but didn't have a consolidated library TO move - the files were spread out all over the computer.
I hope that's helpful to you. I know it may be too late to "undo" yourself back to the beginning and do those organizational steps, but it's at least useful to know the process and how it might help you in the future.
    Best of luck.
