I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

Is the beep sound happen while loading Windows? Is it coming from the speakers?
Have you tried your cursor in the Recovery Manager to see if it's a software issue? When the BIOS HP logo is on the screen press F11 to load recovery manager. If mouse works normally then you have a software issue, if issue still percists it is most likely hardware based.

You can run OS X Mountain Lion with 2 GB of RAM, but you cannot be sure that it will work correctly.
"MacBookPro3,1" belongs to the Late 2007 MacBook Pro, so it is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion. However, you say your MacBook Pro has got an Intel Core Duo processor, when it should have got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. You can check which processor you have in  > About this Mac.
I recommend you to upgrade RAM. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial.
The latest OS X version is Mavericks and it is free, so you may want to install it instead of OS X Mountain Lion. You can download it from the Mac App Store. If you want OS X Mountain Lion, you can buy it in the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

HT2638 I believe i deleted all the images on my macbook but when i scroll in iphoto, i can see the images until i stop then there gone or corrupt. Is there a way of getting these images back??

I thought i had a back up but i had that hard drive plugged in when i was deleting from the all images folder and didn't think it would grab from there.

Make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Home Sharing between laptop and PC - Music in Libraries not showing up

Hi, I'm trying to transfer my library from my laptop to my new PC through homesharing. I have turned on homesharing on both computers. On my laptop, I can see my PC's library, but on my new PC, I cannot see my laptop's library. On my laptop, I can drag and transfer music from my PC to my laptop, but I want to do the opposite. My PC is able to detect the laptop's library but it won't load it. It'll say "Loading ___'s Library" and after about 30 seconds, it will stop and the music won't appear.
So basically, on my laptop I can use homesharing to access my PC's library, but I cannot use my PC to access my laptop library. I've looked online about firewall, turning on Bonjour service, turning on file sharing through control panel, etc. and nothing has worked. It's just getting frustrating that homesharing will work on one computer and not the other.
I have Windows 8 on my PC, and I believe windows vista, or windows 7 on my laptop.

Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon Running Slow

Hi everyone!
I'm a professional photographer and could use some advise, and thanks for your help in advance!
I have a Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 gigs of 1066 MHz DDR3 of memory, running on OS 10.9.5, and my main drive for applications is 1TB and has about 420 GB free. I have various other hard drives for storage.
I use Chrome, Lightroom 4, Photoshop CC2014, Blogstomp, Spotify or iTunes, and I have Backblaze Backup running continuously.
When I first got my computer I didn't have any problems, but over the past few months it's been running super slow. I know that LR4 has issues, but I want to make sure that there isn't anything else I need to look into before getting more memory. I mean even Chrome opening up has the beachball.

My guess is this is a 5,1 2010-2012. You could use a GTX 680 or later, it has good PCIe (the 2009 is somewhat weaker and crippled by sharing slots 3&4)

Lightroom and CS love to be able to load and write scratch, graphic libraries. Bootable. You could use a smaller 256GB $275 for system in slot #3 and one for data and scratch in slot #4 if you wanted to go full out.
You said it was fine originally so maybe something you installed, or an upgrade to the OS or something else that Etrecheck should help show.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
