I have new MacBook Pro. Can I load ms office (student) 2011

I have a new MacBook Pro. Will I be able to load ms office (student) without problem? I want to use word and PowerPoint

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Office 2008 and 2011 are supported in OS X Mavericks, so you can use Office without any problem.
You can purchase Office for Mac from the Microsoft website > http://www.microsoft.com/mac It's easy to install.
Apart from Microsoft Office, you have other apps you may consider, like Apple iWork (Numbers, Keynote and Pages) and LibreOffice, free and open-source. I recommend you to give it a try first

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

I have new macbook pro retina and is there a web design format can use?

I'm not understanding your question. I think you would use any of the current web design formats. Are you talking about what styles to use? If so see the css standards css1, css2, css3 to see what they can provide and which browsers are most compatible. If you are talking about languages use a current standard like html5, php, C#, visual basic , javascript, etc.
Be more specific about what you are asking.

    Additional Information.
On my Mail Accounts setup it was set to "verizon.net" on incoming.

This came up automatically ....  I did not do it and I cannot change it

  • New Macbook Pro Can't See Other Macs

My Powerbook and iMac can see each other over the network and do file transfers, but my new Macbook Pro can't. The other computers show up in Bonjour Browser, but when I try to connect to them (either via their computer name, e.g. my-computer.local, or by ip) it can't. It tells me the address is wrong. It can't even ping them, and they can't ping it. It's weird because I can access both the internet and the router settings.

After I did that Airport stopped working. The menubar icon said "Airport not configured" and there were no network interfaces in System Preferences. So I tried just putting the airport prefs back, and restarting. The same thing happened, so I had to put the whole folder back where it was.

  • I have a Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). Will Lion, Mountain Lion or Marverick makes it run faster or slower?

I have a Macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). Will Lion, Mountain Lion or Marverick makes it run faster or slower?

Snow Leopard is still the most efficient OSX from Apple.  I have a late 2011 MBP running Lion with no performance issues.
I suggest the following;  Install 8 GB RAM if you do not have that already.  (The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial).  The newer OSX's are trifle more RAM hungry.
Partition your HDD and install one of the newer OSX's in the new partition and try it out.  This allows you to 'retreat' to Snow Leoprad if you find the newer OSX is not to your liking.
Also note that the newer OSX's do not support PPC applications.  That means that there is a possibility that some of your current applications will not work and may have to be updated or replaced.
    Ciao.

  • Can I load Microsoft Office Word 2011 for MAC on an IPAD 2?  If yes, then how?  I have the software and one more load opportunity left.

Can I load Microsoft Office Word 2011 for MAC on an IPAD 2?  If yes, then how?  I have the software and one more load opportunity left.
Reason that I ask is that I'm worried that I will not be able to read or work word or excel docs that people send me.

No. Office 2011 for Mac is coded to run with OS X. In order to work on the iPad the app must be coded for iOS instead.
If you look in the iTunes App Store, you will find that there are many apps that allow you to work with Office files on an iPad.

  • New macbook pro - can i use my old hard drive?

Have a new MacBook Pro coming tomorrow to replace to an older MBP.  Everything is on the old HD and have been reading that I can switch the HDs out but would have to reinstall the operating system so all the different components from the new MBP are recognized and will be funtional.  Seems pretty easy but I don't want to screw it up thinking it's too simple so I want to see if there is a good way to pull this off or another way to do this.  My hope at the end of the process is that I have my files and software loaded on the old HD on the new MBP.  Any tips so I don't screw it up?

The old MBP has Snow Leopard 10.6 but likely is not at 10.6.8.  If I get an enclosure for the old HD can I update it to 10.6.8 if I boot the new MBP from the external drive?
Simple Run Software Update or go to the Apple download site and download the 10.6.8 Combo Update then run it. Your 10.6.x will be updated to 10.6.8. Then you should be able to connect that drive to your new MBP, either internally or by some type of SATA to USB adapter (enclosure or just an adapter), and boot the new MBP from that old drive.
Be aware that Lion does not run older PPC apps. So that is one big reason for running, installing, Snow Leopard on newer Macs.

  • My new MacBook Pro can't get an update of iPhoto at the app store

I bought a new MacBook Pro last week and see that the App Store has an update of iPhoto. However there is an error message that says"You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software". I assumed that by purchasing the macbook that I DO own the major version. Any ideas? This must be an error. I have registered my MacBook with Apple with a valid Apple ID.  Thanks for your help.

iPhoto updates through 'software update', not the App Store.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro can't handle 720p Video in iMovie?

Well, my Black 2.0 GHz Core Duo MacBook has been replaced by the new 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (I had to pay the difference) and I had it upgraded to 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive!
I use a Kodak z1085 IS Digital Camera that records videos in 720p quality. When I import them into iMovie '09, I get this message:
This is the same thing that I got on my Core Duo MacBook. If I did not optimize the video, it would play choppy and could not keep up. On my new MacBook Pro, I still get this message saying that "my computer can't handle it." I can undersatnd my old Core Duo MacBook not being able to handle it, but when a brand new $2000 MacBook Pro can't handle 720p video, somthing has to be wrong here.
Are there cretin specs that indicate what computer can handle what? I'm guessing that this MacBook Pro CAN handle it, but why am I still getting that message? Do I need a $10,000 Mac Pro Tower system to make it happy?
Can anyone please explain this and help me out?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    +Well... for starters, the 2.26GHz MB Pro is not a $2,000 machine.+
Sorry...$1.5 thousand. Still too much for a brand machine that isn't "powerful enough" to run software that came out before the computer did.
+For all intents and purposes, it's an entry level notebook (despite the name "Pro")... with only slightly higher specifications than the white MacBook.+
So its only slightly better then the model that can only handle solitaire or any other basic application? I find it odd Apple would include iLife if these machines can't handle all of the features that they are supposed to. Pro means professional. that means this machine should be able to handle PRO applications like Final Cut, etc. But how can it if it can't even handle iMovie! Not to mention they screwed us out of using the old version...so I am stuck using this version!
+I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your black MacBook was replaced by a new 2.26GHz machine... but you had to pay the difference... It sounds like you were perhaps having problems with your MacBook and Apple allowed you to upgrade to the newest version paying something additional. If that's the case, it sounds like they were very generous as you had a first gen MacBook that was about three years old.+
Yes that is exactly what happened. My Black MacBook had many issues. I sent it in for repair three times and even took it to an Apple store when I was on vacation. (don't have any apple stores where I live) All of these repairs did not fix the problems and they kept on coming! So they offered to just replace it. But they don't sell the Black MacBook anymore. Only the white...and I don't like the white (thats why I bought the black!) so that is when they offered me the MacBook Pro if I paid the difference. In which I did. So that is how I got my new MacBook Pro.
+Are you saying that your video plays choppy on your new machine... or just that you get the message stating that it may play poorly?+
Both....It shows that message, and does play somewhat choppy. Not as choppy as the old MacBook though.
Like I said, I'd just like to know what Apple calls "good enough" so it doesn't display that warning.

  • New MacBook Pro can't find the base station

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme Base Station. My house is wired for Ethernet so I plugged the Airport Exteme into one of the Ethernet outlets and did the set-up using my old iMac G5 over the network. (I had to download the latest software for the AirPort Extreme to the iMac before this would work right.) I finally got to the point where I got a green light on the Base Station, but when I search with the AirPort Utility on the MacBook Pro it can't find it, even when it is physically only 3 feet away. I then plugged the MacBook Pro into the AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable and it saw it - no problem. I then downloaded all the software updates to the MacBook Pro, restarted, unplugged the Ethernet and tried again. The AirPort Utility still can't find the Base Station. I am running 10.4.10 on both machines. I have 10.5, but don't plan un updating until I get this to work. I spent about half an hour listening to Muzak while trying to get to support and finally gave up. Any suggestions?

In another Mac OS X user account. Choose Log Out from the Apple menu and log into it. If you want to move them over, drag them to /Users/Shared/.

  • My brand new Macbook pro can't power my USB Mbox 2 pro . Why not?

Can ANYONE help me because it seems like both APPLE and AVID can't. I just got a new macbook pro last month Aug/2011 just for audio and production. I installed protools 7.3 and when plugging my Mbox in the power lights on it are very dim and Protools says Unable to locate digidesign hardware. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and better yet how I can fix it? I tried diiferent USB cables, different USB ports, I tried connecting through an AC powered USB hub, I also have a crap PC on which the same software was installed and it works fine on that. Right now my mac OS is Lion 10.7.1.

Yeah, I just posted about the exact same issue.  I have an Imac and another Macbook Pro and it works fine, just not on the mew Macbook Pro.  I'm baffled, but intend to go to the Apple store to check this out.  If I get anywhere, I will report back.

  • I have new MacBook Pro Retina 15"

I buy new MacBook Pro 15" Retina pc. Together with my Mac I don't get any operatin CD. If I have dificulty how can I format and install again.?

Over the Internet. All new Macs ship with two features, accessible by holding different key combinations on startup.
If you simply want to install a 'fresh' copy of OS X, or want to erase your boot drive and re-install OS X, you can hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting to get to the Recovery partition on your internal storage device.
If you find that you just crash and burn, or if you want to erase everything and reinstall the version of OS X that shipped with your computer, you can hold down the Command, option and R keys whilst booting. You must have an Internet connection because you are essentially booting your machine from Apple's servers.
So the reason your new computer didn't come with any disc is that Apple figures that you can always get some sort of Internet connection - and that their servers will help you along.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
