I have no IE preference mode in my GPO

I'm trying to set IE 9 as our default browser via GPO. All the links I've read on the internet say to click on IE Maintenance Only and then choose Preference Mode. I have no preference mode. In fact under IE Maintenace Only I only have
1 sub-key called INETCORP.ADM
So how do I set IE as the default browser?

Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs require a codec which simply isn't available for Mac OS X.

Why do Mac games have higher system preferences compared to Windows games?

Hello,
I am wondering why Mac games have higher system preferences compared to Windows games?
For example "The Movies" game on Mac requires:
Mac: OSX 10.4 Tiger or later,
PPC G4 1.67 GHz,
512MB RAM,
64MB video card,
DVD drive (minimum)
Whilst on Windows:
PC: Windows 98SE or later
800 MHz CPU
256MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound and video card.
Now anyone can see the amount Windows needs compaired to Mac but why such a huge leap.
And this isn't only on "The Movies" it's the same with "Sims 2" and "Age of Empires"

Double click on the picture of the HD on your desktop, then look at the bottom of the window that opens.
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in the panel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look atthe bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T.status is "Verified," run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

Chris - thank you so much for trying to help. Your suggestion is actually what I tried the first time. And my calendar doesn't sync or syncs blank (since I've never tried to sync a calendar, I am not sure which). Troubleshooting that is what led me to the other FAQ on syncing a calendar.
I saw a few threads that discussed that it seemed to be a problem with the new iPod software . . . and that the problem may lie with recurring appointments. If thats truly the case, then I'll probably have to quit trying. At least a third of my appointments are recurring ones!

That's information for non-Apple hardware. You can activate TRIM using third-party software: TRIM Enabler 2.2. However, most new SSDs should not need TRIM activated on the Mac.

If you're viewing Flash content, then you MUST allow some data to be stored (even as little as 10kb) or everything will constantly freeze and restart.
I've doen it for testing and it's unbearable to try and watch a video or animation with ALL storage blocked.
I'm curious. Is your hard drive so full that Flash storage is causing problems?

Depending on where you bought it you may be able to return it for a full refund within thirty days. Certainly if you got it from Adobe you can return it no reason required (within thirty days).
Not quite sure why you think it is shabby though. Surely you must have realised that there would be differences between a $700 product and a $100 one.

Users have to change GW mode every morning

Hello,
I hope someone can help me. I'm a level 1 IT support guy in a governmental institution
(5000 employees). I'm responsable for level 1 support for 550 users. We've been using Groupwise 7 and Webaccess for a few years now.
Recently, I've had 3 users who have to change their mode each morning. 2 of them want to work with cached mode, but have to change this each morning from online, the other is a manager who travels a lot. He has to change cached to online each morning. I've tried a few things (checked the settings and the rights) but can't find an answer. Our level 2 guys can't find the answer either.
Do any of you have an idea?

I have seen this also with GW 7.0.4 and WIN xp, when I switch to another
mode and then restart GW, sometimes the Windows registry setting gets
"stuck" (for lack of a better term) and will not default to the last used
mode. Since it was just me doing some testing, I went into the registry and
changed it back manually. Unfortunately, I canot help with why it happens
or a fix.

From where are you launching Mail? The only place, unless I've missed or forgotten something, you can launch an application with a single click is from the Dock. Is this what you're doing, or are you attempting to launch Mail from the Applications folder?

You mean that "Show My Caller ID" is greyed out & you cannot switch it to off? If so, contact your carrier, as this setting is controlled by the carriers & some carriers do not permit it to be turned off.

No. It's perfectly safe. An alias is just a pointer to the actual file, not the file itself.
BTW, the icons in the Dock are also just aliases, so it's safe to remove those as well, and just keep the ones you use often.
