I have no longer been able to connect to the internet as aiport continueously tells me that "airport has selfassigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet.

Up until about a week ago I have not had a single internet connectivity problem.  Then, all of the sudden airport will no longer connect and it keeps telling me that "Airport has self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet." I did not change any settings, I didn't touch anything and all of the sudden it just will not connect anymore.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!:)

These steps often sort out this problem...
System Preferences > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side
Click on the Locations combo box and select Edit Locations...
Click on + to add a new location, call it "Home" (or anything else you prefer)
Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and enter your network name
Select TCP/IP tab.
Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease.  After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP
Click on OK and Apply, etc.

yes, the software is on your Mac but it isnt licenced or owned by you so the digital rights management system Apple employs is blocking the application from being used. Its to stop illegal distribution of downloaded software.
my only suggestion is to phone Apple and see if they can transfer ownership

  • Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet

Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet
The problem appears to have been a connection error as well as the system preferences which have reset with a 'valid' IP address after a system preferences 'reboot'.

Power off your internet router. Disconnect completely from its mains power by pulling the plug out of the mains socket. Disconnect all ethernet leads and cables to the router. Wait a minute or so and then reconnect all cables and turn on the power. See if your internet starts.

    Don't need a crossover cable.
Make sure System prefs > Sharing is set up correctly.

    I have tried everything
    restarting the computer

    deleting the systems configuration folder
I dont know what to do anymore.

and set it up from scratch, including a brand new "Location", not the default.
You must close the window and save changes for them to take effect.
If no joy, look at another one of you devices and post

  • My MacBook Pro's airport has an exclamation point and will not connect to the wifi. How do I fix this?

I have tried restarting my computer, turning on and off the wifi, entering my IP address manually, etc. Nothing is working and I have had this problem for a week now. I know the Internet is not the problem because it works for others in my home.

    Open System Preferences/Network
Select the Location you use at home
You may need to click the Padlock bottom left at this point if it's locked, enter the admin password to unlock
In the left hand column drag the Ethernet connection to the top of the list and remove any you don't use
Click the Advanced button bottom right
    Click the TCP/IP Tab
Set Configure IPv4 to Using DHCP
Click OK bottom right and you should see the Router IP number appear and a unique but similar one for your Mac
Click Ok then click Apply and close the Panel

  • Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect

Other computers with same hardware and software (MacBook + 10.6) can get online using the same DHCP cable normally but mine can not. The self-assigned IP address refuses to go away no matter what I do. However, if I connect via wireless, everything is normal.
My 10.6 was upgraded a few weeks ago based on 10.5. Things were normal and Ethernet DHCP did work. This network problem suddenly appeared when the computer was functioning completely normal under a DHCP protocol using a cable.
Does anyone observe similar problems? Anyone has any clue about what's going on?
    Thanks much!

try this. i had the same problem. found this on another forum:
    1. Go to Mac/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    2. Delete the following:
    a. Com.apple.airport.prefrences.plist
    b. NetworkInterfaces.plist
    c. Preferences.plist
    3.Shut down computer
4.reset PRAM (hold commandoption+PR keys down before gray screen when booting up)

  • Self assigned Ip address 169.254.233.194 and will not be able to connect to the internet

self assigned IP address  and will not be able to connect to the internet. How do I fix this?

Sorry we have no info.. so description of the problem..
Are you using wireless? If so on what? Do you have a TC?
Is this a new TC and failed to setup correctly? Or you have TC or some other wireless router that has been working fine and now failed?
Plug in by ethernet? Does it now work?
Reboot the TC.. Does it now work?
Reboot the whole network.. restart in order.. modem.. router.. TC.. whatever other network equipment.. clients.
Do some clients work and others fail?
Press and hold reset on the TC. Redo the setup.. change the TC setup to fixed channels and SMB names.
We cannot give specific answers to such vague faults.

  • I getting airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet

I getting airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet

I have got exactly the same message after we re-configured our router. I was connecting using my iMac wirelessly before hand, but now cannot. Our other PCs can connect wirelessly to the router so it's not the router. I have also tried the firewall solution but that doesn't work either.
I did call Apple Support who said that a full troubleshoot would cost £35 as my computer is older than 90 days (well yes it's been working fine that's why it's over 90 days old, it's only now that it isn't!). He said a trouble shoot didn't guarantee success so I declined his offer to charge me an extortionate amount of money for nothing! He did say that the router needs to be giving the Airport an IP address, but it isn't doing it now. His only suggestion was to turn off the router and turn it back on or power down the iMac. Neither of which help.
    Anyone else had any success?

  • IPad Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.210.251 and will not be able to connect to the Internet.  How to fix?

Mini connects to internet via cable modem fine.
Want to have ipad connect also but mini Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.210.251 and will not be able to connect to the Internet.  How to fix?

    Hello:
I am a long way from a wi-fi expert, but.....
You need, I think, either a router with wi-fi or an airport (express or extreme).  The iPad needs to connect to to a network.  In my case, I use an airport express and both my iMac and iPad 2 connect to the Internet through the airport device.

  • Wi-Fi has self-assigned IP address 169.254.9.151 and will not be able to connect to the Internet

In trying to setup my AirPort Extreme, it connects to the Internet on ethernetcables to computer but says it is not on WI-FI. I have configured it with all that I casn think of and yet I get, "Wi-Fi has self-assigned IP address 169.254.9.151 and will not be able to connect to the Internet." Can anyone tell me what is wrong?
I did both a soft reset and a hard reset to no avail. PLEASE someone help!!
    Thanks!

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I was watching my ATV3 and it suddenly stopped. When trying to reset things and get my wifi back I get the following message: Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.82.22 and will not be able to connect to the Internet. Power-Cycle the modem.... though it looks like your internet services may have gone down.. or something else upstream has gone kaut.
