hi freeski!
also when i double click, itunes.exe comes up in task manager for a few seconds and goes away.
yuck. that sounds more like the malware thingy than the Norton Internet Security problems or the corrupt SC file thing ... but just to make sure, have a look at this recent post on diagnosis and treatment of the three common "error-less" launch failure problems:

I redeemed a gift card, the amount shows up in the top right corner of my account but when I try to purchase music it goes to the account that I have loaded previously. How do I use the gift card?

If the amount of the purchase is close to $21.07, then you need to take into account taxes may be added.
If you go beyond the credit from a gift card the balance will be billed to your credit card account.

    Hi, ATPMolloy.
I certainly understand your frustration and will do my best to help.  I see you have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes with no change in results.  I have attached an article below that specifically troubleshoots this issue that you are experiencing.

  • 5g ipod touch going insane

Hi, I have a 5g ipod touch, 32gb. It works fine everyday but the momment I try to use it while charging, it goes insane. If I were to try to type something, it won't type or it puts in random letters. On Safari, it opens up new pages. It plays my music at random, ect. I have attempted to shut it off and turn it back on, didn't do anything. Can you please tell me what I should do in order to fix it? Thank you.

Please don't use the bolded super-sized font.  It's very annoying.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Installed new itunes and no longer have any music files

when I installed the new itunes version, everything went well - no error messages and itunes definetly looks different....
but now I have no music files in my itunes when I open itunes....is there a step I missed?

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Why cant I create a playlist for my music/song videos? Continuous play is also not possible in the video app on the phone!!!! previously, prior to IOS 6, it was possible to have both music videos & songs mixed in the same playlist in the music app

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?
    Thanks Al

I have just bought a new computer and downloaded itunes. I plugged in my iphone and upgraded to the newest itunes/ synched etc. Now have no music or apps on the phone. Contacts, texts, photos all fine. Just all itunes content that is missiing. It isn't showing in my itunes account on my computer or on my phone. Any idea how to get it back? (No point synching with itunes on my computer as it isn't there either!)

I suggest copying your entire iTunes library to your new computer, also you might want to copy the photos you want to save. Then sync your device to the new iTunes and copy over your music, documents and photos that you want.
If you are no longer going to use the old computer you should open up iTunes on the old computer and use the menu to deauthorize it. Be sure to use the same iTunes menu on your new computer to Authorize the new one.

I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded? The online information suggests all my music will be replaced. Will I have to download it again??

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

On my Mac, on itunes (version 11.4) if you click on "on this phone", there are still remaining 70 songs...
how to clear it from itunes "on this phone" ?

  • Plz help me,i did everything and nothing has worked,im going insane!!!

Hello people, for months ive tried fixing my i-pod and nothing has worked....i try to restore my ipod maybe that would fix da problem but when i press the program,it says ipod service error, and before that it worked ok,it said preparing and stuff but it never stoped perapring the ipod it just got stuck, and in my itunes i see my ipod, but i cant put no music in it?Therefore i have the 2 colour lights all the time when i try to play it.and also when i try to update my ipod with the program u download from the net it says in the end of the installation:Service could not be deleted. All these problems, could someone plz help me,im turning insane! And i cant refund my ipod because i lost my recite and also the store isnt anymore there(My luck)but plz somebody answer me,thank u

I believe the green and orange light flashing means that you have no music on your iPod Shuffle (which seems correct as you have performed a restore). That is the way the iPod Shuffle tells you that it is looking for the next song. When the iPod Shuffle is plugged into your computer (XP user myself) the orange light is suppose to flash on and off (both the battery light if charging and the front light). When updating the iPod using the updater, I received the same error you received (iPod service error), but I believe it was because I was trying to update my iPod with the Sept 05 version when the iPod already had the Jan 06 update on it. I also noticed the "preparing" bug that you mentioned, by simply selecting next, the restore continues correctly. Once I restored my iPod to the factory settings AND performed the restore process THREE times using the Sept 05 updater (what came with my iPod Shuffle) I was able to store music AND listen to it once disconnected from my computer. My next task is to update the iPod with the Jan 06 update and try the process again but I believe there is a driver issue with this version and it may not work. If this is the case, I will just stick with the software received with the iPod. For you, I would attempt to reinstall the software from the CD that was provided with you iPod Shuffle, restore your iPod Shuffle to the factory settings and do this restore THREE times, start iTunes, once the iPod Shuffle shows up in the Source listing right click on it and select Update. Make sure songs copy over (the top centre of iTunes will tell you the status of the update) and finally disconnect and try playing music.

  • When I download music it goes to my Music folder...

When I download music it goes to my Music folder, than I put it into iTunes, but in my Music folder I have categorys like Alternative, Hip Hop.etc..also tha same in itunes,Now when I put it the song into the category in my music folder iTunes than cant find it,,so I have to go and relink it again and its a pain in tha butt..I hope u guys understand what im saying..:) I Would apreciate any help.

If you mean you first put songs into the top level of your My Music folder, then add them to iTunes by "add folder to library" or by drag and drop, and then you go back later and change the location of the file on your hard drive, such as putting it into a subfolder within My Music called Hip-Hop, then yeah, iTunes will loose track of the song and you'll have to relink it.
The feature that I most want in iTunes is integrated folder management, so that you can do that within iTunes and iTunes would follow where everything went. But they don't have it. They have a feature where iTunes goes through and renames every file and generates its own folder structure (preferences/Advanced/General: check "keep iTunes folder organized", and set the iTunes folder to the top folder where you keep your music. Warning: this will immediately begin the renaming process). I don't like iTunes' folder structure. If iTunes were to be the only music player I would ever have for the rest of my life, it could keep all the songs in a single encrypted database and I wouldn't care. But it's not, and I do care.
Here's what I do: I just move the files. Or I rename the files. I do this to too many songs to manually relink each changed file. Then I choose "add folder to library", and I choose my top level music folder, in your case My Music. ITunes will go through and add all songs that aren't already in its list, and for songs that you moved this will create two duplicate entries for the song, one new and good and the other pointing to an invalid path. Eventually, when iTunes tries to do something with the invalid song, such as play it, it won't find it and will put the exclamation by it, as you've found out. Before you delete the old duplicate bad entry, copy your star rating the the new songs, if you use them, and to keep your playlists intact, click through each one to see if there are songs with exclamations and replace them with the updated entry.

how do i delay the screensaver kicking in? I want to have the music function available without havingto constantly press slide to open. Ipod touch.  Thanks

On the iPod, go into Settings/General/Auto-Lock and set that for the amount of time you want, form the choices given.
However, a note of caution; this isn't a screensaver function, it's there to prolong battery life. The longer the screen is on before turning itself off, the more battery you are using and the shorter the time before you run out of power.
There's possibly a better way for you to use you iPod than to keep the screen on. Why are you constantly going into the music function? If it's to select a new track, you could possibly use the Shake To Shuffle feature, which will select a new track at random when you shake the iPod. Alternatively, use the basic Shuffle feature. Or create a Playlist (on the iPod), where you can select the songs you want to play at that time, put them in one list and let the iPod play them.
