I have no option left

I currently have a last generation 15 inch PowerBook. This machine has been great, but over the past two years it has had many problems. The biggest problem has been with the screen, it seems to be dying in certian parts, and also appears to have darker spots that reminds me of the "Dark Spots" earlier models of this computer had. Now, the screen issue I was able to look past and was going to wait until I bought a new MacBook Pro this summer. The PowerBook is my only Mac and I can't part with it for very long, so I was able to put up with that.
Other than that, little issues with paint scratching off the keys and stuff. I figured when I got the MacBook I would send it in and basically have it "refurbished" with whatever they would be willing to fix, and with me being willing to pay for things as the keys and such. Some of the other issues were a really loud humming when the fans sped up and the Disk drive making a noise when I made sudden movements with the machine. Again, None of that appeared to hurt the functioning of the computer.
About a year however, my brother kicked a ball in the house knocking a pot onto my machine. It put a dent in the top of the case, however, it didn't appear to cause any problems, I am afraid though that Apple will see that dent and call it abuse. Even more so, I am scared that dent might have been a precursor to the problems I have now.
Today while working on a paper, my machine suddenly stopped working and Kernel Panicked, happened before, so I restarted. This time though, things seemed awfully slow. The login process took a good 5 minutes. And when finally logging in, Safari took ages to load a page, Word crashed on startup, as did iChat. I haven't tried any other applications.
Now I am pretty good at Mac stuff, so I got out my Hardware Test disks and Diskwarrior, ect. Prepping to do some tests and eventually reinstall Leopard, something I have put off for awhile. But, my drive would not take a disk. The last time I tried a disk was a good few weeks ago, so I don't know if this is new, or old problem. Either way, thats my delima. I have decided I have no other option than to send it in, I am still covered under AppleCare. It is unfortunate that this is happening so close to the end of the year. I guess I will have to pull out my PC.
A few things, I need to backup my machine before sending it in, any suggestions on Hard Drives I can purchase for cheap? Suggestions on why I am having these sudden problems would be welcome, I don't plan to try and fix it, but sure would like to know what the heck went wrong. Could it possibly be that dent that half hurt something and it just gave out? And Apple probably would not cover that. I am a college student, so if I have to fix it, I think I will just scrap it and take the loss and continue to save up for the macbook Pro. I planned on keeping the PowerBook as kinda a backup and iTunes server or something, but oh well.

I was going to say I have the same screen problem which just popped up recently. I bought this mint condition on eBay. Took it in to the Genius Bar and they will fix the screen for their flat-rate of $310. And my battery too, which won't charge anymore. It's a new one.
Although, you have a point. (Hint: dent) That's all I can say per TOS rules.
I think the accident may have damaged more than appears to be on the surface. Like your optical drive. Maybe the shock that resulted caused unseen internal damage.
I like the MyBook drives from Western Digital. I got a 500GB triple interface "pro edition" that matches my PowerBook's casing. It has USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800.
Backing up your drive with a PowerBook G4 or any PowerPC-based Mac needs a FireWire interface in order to boot from it. USB 2.0 only works with Intel-based Macs.
But, go take it in and try out your luck. Since it's out of warranty, I'm not sure whether that abuse policy applies as much as if it were still under AppleCare. You'll still end up a winner, I think, with a flat-rate cost that would be well under what it would cost for all the parts and labor. Even if you get bumped up a notch of two for the rate charged.
Ask the Genius Bar about that one.
Then, you can resell it on eBay as good as new, depending on how it was refurbished/repaired.
These models still fetch a hefty price, starting at $1000, lowest, $895, highest $1500. I got mine for $950. Could have been sold for even more since it is in perfect MINT condition. I was so happy! =)

Or, just a suggestion, sell it as is, be honest with the problems it has, and take the money and run, for whatever someone offers to you. Just make sure to cover yourself and clearly sell it "As Is-- No Returns/Exchanges Accepted. All Sales Final."
I'm thinking your repair would be $500 or so. Instead of shelling out money, someone out there would buy your PowerBook because they feel they can fix it themselves, or can live with issues. Then, put that money toward your new MacBook/Pro.

  • I still have 1 year left on my contract, what are my options to upgrade?

I have an iPhone 5S that I purchased last October. I still have 1 year left to go before I am out of the contract. I really want the new iPhone 6 Plus, mostly because of the bigger screen. What are my options? I read you can trade-in an iPhone 5S and get $300 credit or it will go towards the purchase of a new phone (iPhone 6 Plus) + 2 year contract. Is this possible? If not, what are my options for ditching this phone? Can you ditch the phone itself (and upgrade it) while still keeping the contract you are currently under? Maybe I can turn in my phone for the credit towards the new phone, and still be 1 year into the contract?
Sorry I find all the upgrade info confusing

In short the only option you have is trade in your 5s for the $300 gift card and the buy the 6+ for $749.99 if you're getting the 16GB model, you won't be able to get the discounted pricing for that phone unless you add a line to your account or you're eligible for an upgrade which as you have said you're not.

To get the orange FF tab, go to View > Toolbars > Menu Bar. This should uncheck the menu bar and give you the orange button.
Panorama is a box made of 4 grey rectangles that should be on the far right, if it isn't after you enable the orange FF tab, right click on anywhere on a tool bar that doesn't have anything on it, and you should get a menu with a list of your tool bars that you can check and uncheck. go down to customize at the very bottom and it will open a window with all your buttons. Find the panorama/tab groups button and drag it onto the tool bar of your choice.
to pin a tab as an app, right click on it; it's an option in the right-click menu.

I am using duel thunderbolt displays with a MacBook Pro. I only have the option to have sound come from one or the other. Has anyone thought of making the left channel come from both speakers on the left Monitor and the same of the right? If yes, how is that done? The MacBook Pro could even be a center channel if configured in that order.

  • Firefox never remembers where I left off even though I have the option checked to do this when I get a computer crash or MS update runs ....... Why?

I am used to firefox restoring my previous session if I get a computer crash or the computer reboots when MS Update runs. But this computer always starts a new session. Why? I have the option checked to restore previous session under General tab "Show my windows and tabs from last time".
I suspect this is because when FF launches I am not using the :default: session but I pick from a list.
If this is the case, how to I make my picked session the default one?
It is very annoying not having FF recover all my previously opened tabs. Other computers that I have these feature works fine

  • Renewed my monthly plan , downloaded creative cloud desktop app on new laptop, go to apps, but i dont have an option to install photoshop, I have it installed on two other laptops but both laptops were damaged and i cant access them to delete the installe

hello, i ordered photoshop on creative cloud in August 2014 on a monthly plan, had no problems installing and using etc, until both mine and my girlfriends laptops were damaged. I then stopped paying my monthly plan. and PS was deactivated. I recently got a new laptop which im using currently, it is an aspire one with windows 7. I paid my debt to adobe to reactivate, Creative Cloud Photography plan (one-year) . I then downloaded creative cloud and logged in as usual, i go to the apps page to install PS but it only has an option that says TRY. i looked into the problem and found that with my account i can only have PS installed on two devices, and the only two solutions i saw was to uninstall on the other devices and then re install. This is my problem, my girlfriend chucked her laptop straight in the bin whilst I have mine in the cupboard in pieces not working. or the other option was to open a new account with adobe. I dont really want to follow that option as I have just paid my debt and subscription for the next month and i dont want to change my email address associated with the adobe account. Any advice or solutions will be appreciated, thank you.

The purchase is active now, we have recieved the payment. You have one activation left.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • When I click on a bookmark, it will not open in a new tab, but I have this option checked?

I have two issues since upgrading to FF4. The first issue is, when I click on a bookmark it will not automatically open in a new tab. I do have this option checked in my preferences, but it will not work. The second issue is when I search in the Google box, I cannot click on the auto search option.

Bookmarks always open in the current tab unless you middle-click or use Ctrl + left-click to open the bookmarks in a new tab just like you do with other links.
There are extensions that can change that behavior.

My ipad is no longer showing all my vidoes, even though i have the option set to show all, even those that are in my cloud. Any suggestions??

Close the videos app and launch it again.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
if they still don't show up after you launch the app again, try resetting the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Trax and kirt are correct. I'm pretty good with technology, being an engineer and all, and I can tell you for a fact that this 'swoosh' sound (triggered by a successfully sent SMS) can NOT be disabled from ANY menu in iOS 5. The ONLY way to disable it is to flip the silent switch on the left hand side of the phone. This is extremely annoying for some people (like trax, kirt, and myself). For what we pay for Apple products and, in particular, this phone, we simply didn't expect to have to deal with such annoyances. That's why we're Mac users. Please fix this bug.
I feel like I shouldn't have to say this but it bears repeating: turning off message sounds from the 'sounds' menu does not fix his problem. It still emits the swoosh noise. Whoever suggested this clearly didn't try it because it obviously doesn't work. Who posts a solution to a problem without knowing for a fact that their solution is correct? I find that response condescending because he writer is assuming we're not smart enough to have tried it. In reality, it's vice versa.

  • Windows Crashed and No Option Left?

    Hi.
I bought a HP 2000-2202 TU laptop in Feb 2013.
In April 2014, When the warranty expired, the OS (Windows 8) crashed.
After contacting HP Customer care, they asked me to purchase a set of recovery disk.
I purchased and tried to install it.
    Installation failed.
Contacted HP Customer again and they said I need to visit Service Centre.
At service centre, they disgnosed and said that the hard disk has bad sectors.
I came and replaced my hard disk with the new one of same specifications as original (500 GB, SATA, 5400 RPM). Tried installing windows again with the recovery disk. It did not work. Again contacted customer care and they said to visit service centre. Service centre guys told me that recovery disk will work on the hard disk purchased from HP servcie centre only (Weird it sounded still, had no option but to trust them). I told them to install new hard disk from their centre only and install windows.
After 2-3 days they called me up and said that the recovery disk is damaged and hence the problems.
I asked them, if there was problem in Recovery Disk, why did they make me buy new hard disk? they said that the hard disk was also damaged (Again shocked, how come all my disks are damaged???). I told them to provide me with the new recovery disk, and they said that recovery disk can only be bought from HP customer care. Tried to contact HP Customer care and they said they can give recovery disk once again only if i buy new hard disk and re-install windows and then call them up to explain exact error. I tried to convince them that the laptop is not with me and it is at service centre. They wanted me to make service centre guy call them up but service centre guy is not ready to call them up. between these service centre and customer I have been suffering for last 2 months. No option left to me but to forget the laptop and buy new one. In literal sence they have robbed my laptop. I dont see any chance of help anywhere, so posting it here as my last attempt and hope.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I apologize for the inconvinience caused to you.

How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

  • Does Premier Pro C5.5 have the option to zoom in on a subject?

Does Premier Pro CS.5 have the option to zoom in on a subject in the video?  How about cropping the picture so you remove the "outside elements" that are distracting at the edges of the original film footage?  I have a home video of my daughter singing and there's an obnoxious man that I thought was out of my picture while filming.  when i uploaded it, I found that I didn't account for the icons on the side of the camera screen and so actually the man is on the edge of the video waving his arms and basically becoming the center of attention while watching the video.  I want to zoom in on my daughter thereby cutting the guy out of the left side of the screen so she becomes the focus of the video again.  Does Premier Pro do this?  Does the trial version do this?  Is there an EASIER program to try for this kind of editing?  Because Premier Pro is complicated and definitely not user friendly for the very Amateur dummy like me.

PP has a scale facility.  If you are editing in the same format as your shoot, the image will start to pixelate at about 5% increase (105% total).
If, however you shot in HD, for example, (1920 x 1080) and want to edit in 720 x 576, you can scale to almost 200% without image break-up.
