I have no problem signing into my iTunes account with my iCloud email

Why can i not access the App Store for the latest downloads using the same password that i use to open my Itunes account.
The Apple ID that it is offering is greyed out and displaying an old email address that i once used.  This old email is is no longer applicable, and it will not allow me to delete it.
However i have tried entering the same password that i use to open my Itunes account & it comes up with the message as follows:   your Apple ID or password was entered incorrectly.
Can anyone help please.
