I have no sound on my ipad. unless its plugged into my haier external home dock/speaker. I can adjust the volume with the buttons when its plugged in. not when its not plugged in. I play music thru the dock, immediately when I take it off my sound shuts.

The computer is picking up the signal from the remote. Go into system preferences - security - general. Click the padlock and go into advanced. Check disable remote control infrared receiver.

Playing music thru the USB connection
I want to use my ipods (I have 4 different ones) to play music through my home stereo without using a docking station. My receiver has a USB input, so I want to be able to plug in the ipod(s) thru the USB so they can stay charged while they are playing. The problem is, I can't get any of them to play through the USB connection - only the headphone jack, which I don't want to use. Is there software available to get the ipods to output music through the USB interface?
The stereo unit you are plugging into has to support iPod playback for what you are trying to do. Most do not. Check with the manufacturer.

Hi, this problem is really destroying my ipod experience. (I have to contsantly fiddle with the volume with every track inorder to stop my ears being blown out. Come on apple. (Get the basics right?) These new ipods maybe scratch risistant, but thier buggy as ****! Its also about time apple increased the font resolution in their, oww so borring! menu system. Its no longer a pleasure to look at. Just an annoyance Like the none colour ipods)
OK, I am also frustrated with the volume levels. I have tried manually adjusting with the slider in options, but was getting inconsistant results when playing through the dock. SO I tried mp3Gain, and spent a while letting it equalize the gains on 500 songs, but it did not work well. It seemed to over compensate, and the loud albums become way too soft. Seems there is no easy fix. How can you just guess how much to slide the slider, then wait till it uploads to the iPod again, then compare levels again. And for how many songs? But so far, that seems to be the best way, but again, I think the dock output is disregarding these changes.

Playing music thru multiple devices
I have a shelf speaker system in my basement that I hook my computer up to and a rather large dock for my iPad2 in my living room on the ground floor. Since running a wire would be impossible... how do i get them to play music at the SAME time. Right now I have to click two seperate remotes and they never start at the same time (+- 1-2sec). I've tried the remote app, but then my iPad doesnt play music thru the dock.
Not doable with iTunes.
You could use iTunesDJ on one computer but it will use only what is on that computer.
iTunesDJ allows users to send "requests" to queue up songs on that computer. -

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

I have a new laptop with Windows 8 as operating system. Installed latest version of iTunes ontop computer. I can play music in My Library but when I click on iTunes, I get the message " iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available."

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Like what I mentioned, the iPod do not work, it won't play music and the battery light do not flash.
But it shows in iTunes, and I could sync music into it.
I tried to reset all the settings of the iPod, and installed all the new software, but it does not work.
I don't know if it works before, my friend left it to me. I erased all the data she used before and syncronized all my music inside.
But it just never worked in my hand...

There are separate contact points for power and data, so it is possible for the cable to connect for data, but not for power. Some third-party replacement cables may be of lower quality, if you do not have the original cable
However, it seems to be getting power, since the shuffle is operating when connected and you are able to sync when it is connected. So I think your USB docking cable is working.
That leaves a problem with the USB port or a problem on the shuffle.
For the USB port, it may not be supplying sufficient power to charge the battery. As a test, you should shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices, including hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used). If the Mac is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power). Do this to reset the shuffle

I have a galaxy S4. When I connect a headphone, certain songs play extremely low while others play at the correct volume. The same songs play fine thru the speakers. Can someone shed light on this.

We want you to be able to enjoy all your music! Were all the songs downloaded from the same source? Are all the songs that play at the low volume from the same place? Is the music you are listening to stored on your device or a 3rd party application?

Why does my mac have to lockdown before playing music through the headset?
