I have no space designer impulse settings

Hi. I re-loaded Logic Pro 8, but now I have no Space Designer Impulse settings; also no master settings (Ld and Bkg Vocal settings; Mastering settings; etc...) what and where do I go to get these back? Thanks!!

You need to delete things off your iPad.  You could delete apps you never use.  You could unsync pictures.  You could unsync music.  You could archive books.  Without knowing what you've got stored on you iPad, it's hard for anyone to tell you what to delete.

  • Space Designer impulses *HELP*

I have some extra Space Designer impulses from my 2nd install disk on Logic 6.
They are a heap of .SDIR files arranged in corresponding directories.
I have copied them to: system/library/application support/logic/impulse responses
Is there a way to get them to come up in the preset menu without having to load each .SDIR and save it as a preset??

Chances are, if you recreate the folder structure that Logic 6 used to store your .SDIR files and presets, Logic 7 may pick it up. Otherwise, I would agree with Marty in that you will have your work cut out for you.

  • Space designer legacy settings problem

for some unknown reason my space designer plug in wont show my legacy settings in the drop down menu..i know they exist on the system because i can see them in finder, but space designer doesnt show them,
anyone know how to fix this?
    thank you

Good to see i am not alone on this which i stumble upon a few months ago, where i just took a break on L.P. now I'm back at it.
So if the Legacy Space-Designer doesn't show up in L.P.8, should i take the folder from L.P.7 that says Space Designer settings, and the impulse responses,
and extract them onto L.P.8 where it says Space-Designer or should i just take the folder of S/P of L.P. 7 and dump them into the directory, or in the root directory on the main H.D.
Forgive for asking about this as Bee Jay tried explaining but i didn't quite get it, even though i kinda understand what he saying i guess I'm slow on this.
    Thanks in advance Noqplease.

  • 96k Space Designer impulses ?

Since all the factory presets for Space Designer default to "sample rate/2" in a 96k project, I'm assuming the factory impulses are all at 44.1k ?
Any chance there are higher sampling rate versions of these factory impulses hidden somewhere ?
Guessing the answer is "No" ...

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere, maybe the Audio Ease website, that there's really no need to sample reverbs at anything about 48khz, as reverberations rarely contain frequencies over 18khz anyway.
Makes sense. On the other hand, I'm guessing running a 44.1k impulse in a 96k session requires at minimum a realtime sample rate conversion, which will probably degrade the performance of the original impulse.
Not to mention that a 44.1k sample in a 96k session won't necessarily use less CPU... possible that it uses more than a 96k impulse running at the native sample rate. I haven't tried to test.
Probably splitting hairs here, but I'm curious...

  • Trouble loading IR's in Space Designer

Ever since i upgraded to Logic 8 there have been many Space Designer IR's that won't load. I finally took the time to figure out where they were and why they wouldn't load and now i'm even more confused. For example when i choose "Small Combo Spring" (small spaces> Spring Reverbs> Small Combo Spring) I'm prompted to manually locate the IR but when i do find the pst file it's not highlighted (I'm not able to select it). If i choose to load setting manually i can choose Small Combo Spring.pst but then i'm asked to locate Small Combo Spring .SDIR which can't find. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Two things - a Space Designer plugin settings file (*.pst) is not the same thing as an impulse file.
The pst file simply contains the settings of Space Designer's GUI, and the path/name of the loaded IR file.
Now, the Space Designer presets were altered, renamed and reprogrammed for LP8, and the impulse files are different. It may be that you have left the LP7 SD pst files on your system, but had the impulse responses replaced with the LP8 ones - hence, the LP7 ones won't load.
If this is the case, you can reinstall the LP7 impulses from your LP7 disks. I'm not sure offhand whether these impulses are also in LP8's legacy content (I can have a look) but I'd recommend using Pacifist to extract the impulse files and place them where they need to be to have everything load correctly.

  • Space Designer LP7 songs don't load in Space Designer LP8?

Hi there, I recently replaced my entire system drive with a new one and installed Logic studio 8. I still have my old system drive but it's not connected to my Mac.
I have been loading songs produced on LP7, when loading the songs ask me for the old Space Designer Impulse response FX presets. Now I assume since installing Logic 8, that the older Space designer stuff has been changed but surely they wouldn't have completely done away with it would they? How can I get a LP7 produced song's Space designer setup load in LP8?
    Thanks.

Hi - I just wish to bring this one back to life:
I was not aware that the Space Designer had maintained the L7 Legacy IR's and I'm keen to get them back too. I have the folder so I can see them all now but...
I'm not sure how to get them to show up in the Space Designer preset menu. I know I can load them from the 'Load IR & Init' menu but this is slow as you have to locate the folder every time.
How should I structure the user library in order to get the Legacy folder to show in the preset menu? I've tried a couple of options but it's not working.
    They are currently showing in:
    MacintoshHD/Library/Audio/ImpulseResponses/Apple/05LegacySpaces
but do not show in the preset menu.
On a related note I have the Spirit Canyon Audio IR's in:
    User/Library/Audio/ImpulseResponses/SpectralRelativity
and would like these to show in the preset menu also. But currently I have to 'Load IR & Init' every time. Same problem maybe?
Do you need some sort of 'preset/plugin' file in the menu that references the IR?
Hope that all makes sense - help appreciated! Thanks

  • Space Designer

Does any one use Logic Express could tell me if it has the "Space Designer Reverb"  same as the one in "Logic Studio 9"?  I'm using GarageBand and it doesn't support 96khz and it has no good reverb for vocal and I was thinking to upgrade to Logic express but first I want to make sure it has the same Space designer Reverb that comes in Logic Studio 9.

    Hi,
NO, Logic Express doesn't have the space designer as Logic Studio has.
However, Logic Express has the platinum reverb which can be utilized to construct some good reverb environments, too. You could also combine two or more different reverb effects into an aux channel to build a nice reverb fx.

  • Using Space Designer from Soundtrax Pro while in Logic Express

I have logic epress on my powerbook G4 that doesn't have the Space Designer effects plugin. On my imac G5 I have Final Cut Pro wich includes the Space Designer plug-in. If I install logic express on my imac, will I be able to use the Space Designer plugin from Final Cut Pro?

    Short answer: maybe.
Long answer: it will require using something like JackOSX or sending audio through a network or spare pair of i/o on your soundcard, out of LE, into Soundtrack Pro and Space Designer, and then back into LE.
This may result in considerable latency (which is really just pre-delay anyway, so no biggie) and may or may not work (i.e. don't hunt me down if it doesn't work!).
SD will not show up in LE if they are installed on the same machine.

  • Space Designer Presets and Impulses... Gone?!

    I'm stymied...
Been wanting to audition some Space Designer reverbs, but for some reason all of the presets were gone from the settings menu. I don't remember what I did exactly, but I found them and moved them into the SD settings folder somewhere on my system. And now I have all of my presets back. But...
Every time I load one of the presets, Logic asks me where the .sdir file is for it.
This never used to be a problem. Why it's different today is beyond me. But anyway...
Can someone please tell me where .sdir files are supposed to be located? And also, just so I'm sure everything is where it should be, where should the SD preset settings live?
    -=iS=-

    Works perfectly.
For some reason my impulse responses and settings were in two places:
    iSchwartz HD/Library/Logic/Impulse Responses
    ...and...
    ~/Library/Applications Support/Logic/Impulse Responses
    Weird...
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • Impulse Response editing - Do it the right way: IRs for Space Designer

    Dear fellow board members,
after doing several research on this topic and many attempts to match some Impulse Responses I finally have to admit, that a little help or insight would be much appreciated. Most of the (Beamsonic) IRs, especially the Studer and Ampeg IRs, seem to have overlength (≈ 6 sec.) and some do have "silence" at the very beginning (see picture below).
I would be thankful for a helping hand explaining me, which part of this IR is of relevant importance: Do I need the "silence" tail at the end? What should I take care of when editing such IRs as the pictured one? Would only the marked yellow area be of importance? Get rid of the red areas (beginning & end)?
As many of the IRs I do have correspond to the image above, I have to go through heavy manual editing and before doing so, your help would be much appreciated.
Does anybody have gone through this before and would like to exchange some of his material for the Space Designer (IRs + corresponding Presets)? I am looking for: EMT 250, Studer A80 Tape, other Tape Sats as well, Ampeg, Westlake Studio D, other useful top quality IRs as well.
For now, many thanks in advance for sharing interest
    Vic.

    1. You maybe want to comment on what is considered to be the
"technical right way" to achieve DAW Tape Saturation via IRs, i.e.
what makes sense and what not?
Really, there is no technical right way - all we are doing is altering our recorded audio in a way that we like - it will vary depending on your tools, your tastes, the material, the artistic intent etc...
a - Insert the Convolution Reverb right on the Audio Channel
    itself with Pre/Post-Compression/EQing, etc.
I will do this if I want to process an individual channel for colour. Remember to set the effect to 100% wet.
b - Send audio to a Convolution Reverb Bus (and share w/multiple
audio channels), loss of quality, etc?
You're just sending a bunch of channels - in convolution terms, the results as far as I know will be the same if you process 10 channels indivdually and sum them, compared to if you sum the 10 channels then convolute them. Remember, convolution is a static process in most tools, including Space Designer.
How would you judge the value of using "Impulse Responses"
    in comparison to "Plug-Ins"?
Well, I don't think anyone's done a tape saturation plugin properly yet. I'm not an expert in this field, but had some interesting discussions with one of the Sonalksis developers over on KVR who is heavily researching into tape saturation (he's doing a doctorate in the subject) and he thinks that it is possible to do a decent tape saturation plugin - not easy by a long stretch, but possible, so I'm sure we will eventually see decent plugs appearing.
Having said that, I'm not actually a huge fan of the tape sound anyway - I like the impulses for that colour if I need it, but I certainly don't run everything through it. I don't really like the smeared transients, at least on my "less natural" pieces. Rock music (as an example) may well work better.
The plugins that do saturation in varying amounts are a mixed bag in my opinion. A lot of people love VintageWarmer, but I'm not that keen on it (again, I'm not an "expert" by a long stretch, these are just my personal opinions).
I've had some great results using Guitar Amp Pro for saturation and warming (we're talking subtle stuff here) on drums and guitars.
There are a bunch of other plugs too, but none that I have used to tape saturation. DUY's tape does saturation, but not really accurate tape simulation *from what I have heard* - I haven't used it personally myself. Charles Dye seems to like it, anyway!
. Finally: Did anybody experiance differences in quality when
comparing Convolution Reverbs (i.e. SD vs Altiverb vs Waves) in
    processing the same IR?
In general, no. Mathmatical convolution is afaiu a mathmatically "perfect" process, much like the adding of audio signals in the digital realm. As long as you know how to do the maths correctly, there should be no difference, given the same IR (it's the IR that really determines the quality of the output).
Of course, different plugs implement things differently, and have different features, but by and large, the convolution engines these things use should be generally the same.
Again, I'm no expert and haven't done exhaustive testing or anything - this info comes from discussions I have and my understanding of these processes from a DSP point of view. Other may well be able to back up or debunk what I've said, so I'll leave the floor to them now...

  • Space Designer True Stereo Impulse Responses

I recently purchased some impulse responses. I am trying to load these into Space Designer on Logic 9.1. They have been supplied as L, R and C wav files. It says that Space Designer supports 'true stereo' impulse responses, where there is a seperate wav file for L and R. But I can't work out how to load both files? Has anyone on here successfully loaded True Stereo responses in Space Designer? The set of responses also includes 'quad' files consisting of just one stereo file - should I be using these instead?
If anyone could help/offer any advice I would be very grateful
    Many thanks

If the impulse responses are Stereo Interleaved audio files, then they load into Space Designer as true stereo impulses.
Note : make SURE you create the space Designer on a STEREO AUX or channel, otherwise its mono--->Stereo, and will load mono impulses. At least that what it does on my system. They same impulse sounds very different when fed a mono source VS a stereo source...
As for "QUAD" sources, it does not support them, at least I do not think it does.
Try loading a Space Designer on a 4-channel audio track (a QUAD) track, and see what happens.
Also, those QUAD files are probably 4 mono audio files contained in the one file. I've seen these before...

  • Impulses loaded into Space Designer?

Hey does anybody know how to load impulse responses into Space Designer? Just downloaded some third party stuff and wanted to try them out. They are called "Beamsonic Impulses". Thanks

Yeah, using gates would be clumsy and buggy. What the Sonic Birth API does is is allow you to construct your own AU by instatiating actual code. But you don't have to really write the code. You drag visual modules around and link them with virtual cables. Each module is ultimately a C++ class function and you're really just building object oriented code with a GUI. There really is very little you can't do. For example, you can even attentuate output amplitudes with whatever function or equation you wish to write. Recently I wrote a fade in/fade out plug that follows exponential curves when a timing loop is started by a boolean variable switching from 0 to 1. Designing a virtual logic circuit to test the input for its amplitude is very easy and that could be used as a trigger to switch between the output of several convolutions. To the end user it would look like any other AU if you packaged the IR wave files with the plug you create and set them up as presets. The catch is that the user has to actually have the Sonic Birth framework on their machine to use it. It doesn't make a generic AU that everyone can use.
If I get this baby working I'm gonna get real excited.

  • Impulses with space designer

I have been talking with a friend. He was telling me that i can download impulses to load into space designer. That model like neve pre amps and stuff alike.Where can i get these impulses? I actually think i found them, i downloaded them and it looks like a bunch of munbers and symbols. Is this right? If so what do i do with them once i get them. How do i load them into the space designer?Any advice would be greatly apprecieated.

  • Space Designer loses impulses

    Hi
I have a song with a two Space Designers which use impulses from NoiseVault. I've loaded the IR's and saved off presets, not a problem. However, sometimes when I reopen the song the Space Designer asks for the location of the IR's again. So I find them and it's happy. When I come back to the song again at a later time, it asks for the IR's again. What's going on, the preset seems to be losings the location of the IR, which hasn't changed.
    cheers
    z

zibba, try putting a "noisevault" alias in
    -/Library/ApplicationSupport/Logic/ImpluseResponses.
have had the same problem, and the above should help. unless of course, you've put them there already.
also, get onyx and use the "optimise system" command.
