  • I have a pre-2008 Mac PRO how do I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I have a pre-2008 Mac PRO how do I upgrade to Mountain Lion? On the Apple's site on upgrading (http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/), I see that "Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)" is required for the upgrade. What's up with that?
Will upgrading of the GPU do the trick?
I'm curretly on Snow Leopard, will I be limited to Lion?

You just need to update it to the latest version.  See:

  • I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I have not updated since purchase.  I have downloaded music from iTunes from an old computer that I can no longer access, and my "old" music in not currently on my new computer.  Will I lose my music if I update?

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation and have not updated the software since I purchased it.  When I first purchased the iPod Touch, I synced it with an old computer and an older version of iTunes.  I no longer have access to the old computer and no access to the older music I downloaded onto the old computer.  If I update the software for my iPod, will I lose all of my music that is currently on the iPod?

Since your updating from iOS 4 to iOS 6, you will most likely lose your songs, but if songs were purchased from iTunes, you can try this:
Downloading past purchases from App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
You can redownload from iTunes on your iTouch, if running iOS 5 or better.

  • My mail messages have not updated since Sunday and Safari is not opening--any suggestions?

On my iPad 2, my mail messages have not updated for 2 days and Safari won't open.

TThanks Meg-when I got through to Apple tech support, that's exactly what they had me do, but It still had to go further. In Settings I hit Delete Account (very unnerving), watched my messages disappear, then hit Add Account, re-entered my account info, and everything came back, including updating my messages. Success! Safari started too.
    Thanks!

  • I have not updated since 10.7.3 can i use the 10.7.5 update in software update

I now see 10.7.5 in my software update...can I just use that one or do I have to download some combo update? I have been scared of kernal panics.

Software Update will recognize that you need more than a one-step upgrade and should supply the equivalent of the combo updater automatically. Of course, you can also go here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582 and download the combo updater yourself and then run it.
There was a Supplemental update released recently which fixes a problem in the original 10.7.5 update so just to be safe, after running the update, go to "About this Mac" under the Apple Menu, then click "More Info..." You should see (11G63) after the new OS version. If it's earlier than 63, Software Update can deliver the Supplemental update. However, when I've tried the support.apple.com links, even though the date shown is 9/19, updaters containing that fix are delivered so you should be OK. That's also true if you use Software Update.

You need iOS 5 or later to update directly from your device.
You need to update via iTunes.

  • Anyone else not able to open avi's with quicktime after downloading Mountain Lion??

I have an intel iMac with QuickTime Player (Version 10.2) and no .avi that I have tried to open up (that I have aquired SINCE upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion) will play.  All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.  Anyone else having these issues?

    Anyone else having these issues?
My system generally works the same now as it did before the upgrade as far as AVI files are concerned—i.e., some "supported" files play in the QT X Player and all "supported" files play in the QT 7 Player.
All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.
Since AVI is a file type, the real question here is whether or not both old and new files contain the same compression formats and if different, whether or not the non-playing compression formats are supported by by your codec component configuration and in the AVI file type. To test the possibility that certain codecs are no longer compatible with QT X v10.2 in the AVI container, try playing the problem files in the QT 7 v7.6.6 player app.

  • HT1338 How do I re-install Mountain Lion in my iMac?

I have the latest iMac 27" that I got last December.  I was wondering how I go about re-installing the IOS that is on the hard drive.

With OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you just need OS X Recovery to reinstall OS X and do more things like restore Time Machine backups, repair drives, reset user passwords... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To reinstall OS X, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start in OS X Recovery, and reinstall OS X

  • Im just now downloading mountain lion, and i don't know if it's actually downloading or not. There is no bar that tells me how far along the downloading is... the only confirmation i have is that when i go to the app store it says that it is downloading.

    what should i do???

Have patience...it takes a looooong time. I really dislike the AppStore delievery method for large downloads.

  • How long does it take to download mountain lion

just downloading mountain lion on my imac ( MAC OS X 10.7.5) ---any idea how long it should take? its starting to look like its going to be slow...

That's around 1.6 MB/s or approximately. So it should take about one hour at that speed. However, your service speed is not necessarily the transfer speed between you and the Apple servers. Expect the actual time to be longer.
