This is simply he rotation lock icon showing up. It means that your iPad 2 running iOS 5.5.1 is "locked" in either portrait or landscape mode. This restricts the screen from rotating when you tilt it. This feature can be very useful in certain cases. To disable this feature, simply double tap on the home button to access the multitasking menu. From there, swipe to the right and tap the icon that looks like a lock with a circle around it. Depending on the settings on your iPad, you may have to turn off rotation lock by flipping the switch directly above the volume switch into the opposite position as it is in now. Hope this helped! Does anyone know how to fix this?If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button
For the WiFi issue try Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You can also power cycle your router, Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in. -

It's orientation lock. Double tap the home button, swipe left to right, far left is the orientation lock. Tap on/off. Tap home button when finished.

That icon indicates your iPhone is rotation locked.
To remove it, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center. Tap the similar looking icon there to turn it off. -

Screen orientation lock. Double click the home button to bring up the recent app bar. Then finger swipe left-to-right to bring up the iPod controls. The icon on the far left (circle with lock in it) is the orientation lock button - press it, and the lock will go away.

How to move the Firefox 'close window' x icon to the right-hand corner?
I've just been given the option to upgrade my Ubuntu Linux (from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx). Although the updated colour scheme and Fire fox look great, one annoyance is that the 'close window' X-icon has moved from the right-hand corner to the left-hand corner.
As a right-handed person, my mouse pointer drifts over to the right-hand side of windows, so moving this icon from the right corner to the left corner doesn't make sense to me, as a right-handed person (~90% of the world are right-handed?).
I know that there's almost definitely a keyboard shortcut for 'close window' but I would like to see the 'Close window' 'x' back in the right-hand corner, or an option/preference to put it back where it always used to be! (as far as I know...).

Go to System > Preferences > Appearance. Choose a Theme that has the right orientation rather than the left.

I have my movie almost done but now I find many of the clips have a small screen looking icon in the right hand top corner of the clip. I can't delete those. What does it mean and where do I get rid of it?

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.

can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off. check out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there -

I don't think you can delete it but you can remove it from the screen by swiping up the screen from the bottom & clicking on the lock icon to disable it; it should go dark.

Help I have 'lost' my downloads icon from the dock on my desktop Mac. Can I retrieve it? If so please describe how, using simple terms. I have tried searching folders, finder and trash
Your Downloads folder should be in your Home folder. Just drag it to the Dock.
If you've managed to delete it, try creating a new folder called 'Downloads'. You will probably need to nominate it in Safari or any other browser preferences as your download destination. (Safari Preferences>General, 'Save downloaded items to:' menu)
