I have one playlist that iTunes won't sync to my iPad

I have recently created a playlist but it will not sync to my iPad.
I have tried restarting both my Macbook & the iPad, but each time they sync _only_ this playlist is left out.
The songs, unless they are in another playlist, also don't transfer.

I had the same problem. I scoured help and forum and found nothing that worked. Then I tried just changing the name of the one playlist that would not sync to iphone5 - and that worked. Don't ask me why. Good luck.

Ringtones are currently a one-time only download. Have you not got a copy of them on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you can try contacting iTunes support and asking for a re-download, but they are under no obligation to let you you re-download them : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Express Lane, then iTunes > iTunes Store

I have a playlist that I only sync to my iPhone once a year (Christmas Music). I checked it on the list to sync, along with all my other playlists but when I Apply it and Sync it, the Christmas Music Playlist does not show up. It showed up one time with only 2 of 238 songs. Then it showed up with the music in the iCloud, but would only play 3 songs and would skip through a bunch of songs ending up on only those 3 songs. I can't tell you how many times I have "Synced" my phone trying to get the Christmas Playlist to show up. I changed the name, deleted the playlist and reinstalled it, deleted it on the phone and tried to reinstall it on the phone manually. Can't get it to work. Christmas will be over and I will not be able to listen to my music. THX, Lynn

I had a very similar issue (same playlist). After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button). To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly. It sounds like a single playlist is not syncing from your library to your device.
I want to recommend a couple of things here. First, restart both your computer and your phone.

Try syncing again and if the issue persists, I would next try resyncing your music to the phone, by unchecking the Sync Music checkbox in the Music tab of iTunes when you have your phone selected, then click apply. This will remove the music from the phone.

When that completes, re check the checkbox and click apply again to sync the music back to the phone.

I have one song that at one time was on my iPod. I have since bought another version of the song and since then the newer purchase of the song is on the iPod but the first one I bought is in iTunes but is not on my iPod any longer. I have tried to transfer it several times but it just won't transfer to my iPod. What could be the problem?

I read a post about something like this. I forget the details, but my advice is to rename the original song's track Name to something like "song (original)" and see if it will sync.
You can always change it back if this doesn't work.

Not fully automatically, no. iTunes doesn't expose the clean/explicit status to the smart playlist system, but if you're prepared to take a few seconds to tag new purchases, say by adding the keyword Explict into the grouping field, then it will be easy to create smart playlists that exclude those tracks. I use a similar scheme to tag tracks so they they go into seperate playlists for each member of the family, E,g, a grouping of Alice/Bob will go into each of Alice's & Bob's playlists, but not Charlie's.

Are you connecting to a different iTunes library than you normally connect to? That will erase the songs and playlists since the iPhone can't be connected to multiple libraries even if it is in manual sync mode.
If you no longer have access to the original library that your iPhone calls 'home', then the only way to save the playlist (and the songs on your iPhone) would be to use a 3rd party application to extract your iPhone contents to this new iTunes library you're trying to connect to.

I have a couple of suggestions for you to attempt to resolve this issue. First, I would try re-creating your iTunes library following the instructions listed here:

The free trial is all I needed to migrate my iPod Touch library into my main iTunes library. For those that want to use this tool for the same needs there are some things that need to be moved manually, e.g. Apps. But you can do it within the program very easily. Also iBooks/PDFs etc. need to be moved manually. The help section will point you in the right direction.
No more switching iTunes libraries for me.
