I have only 200mb of free ram. i have 2gb installed. I have early 2008 2.4gh macbook running os x lion

I have an ealry 2008 macbook. it has 2.4gh processor and 2gb of ram. when i had snow leopard it ran like a champ. i installed lion and she still runs good but she suffers some lags. i checked the activity monitor nd it has 200mb of free ram left. to me thats a little bit. i like to play video games. when i had snow leopard i was able to play gta san andreas with no problem. so my question, is really bad 200mb? and will 4gb of ram improve the system?

Free ram isn't the on,y ram that's available to run programs http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342
BUT.....2gb is the bare minimum for running Lion, you need at least 4gb in reality. Your computer will run better with 4gb.

You're welcome.  Given the number of people who seem to have problems restoring photos from their backup I wouldn't trust the iCloud backup for my photos anyway.  I always import them to my computer at least weekly.  That way I know I have them.
You might want to check out the app PhotoSync.  It makes this pretty easy as it transfers them to your computer wirelessly and keeps track of which ones have already been transferred.

  • How do I delete files on my iPod second gen?  This is a NEW problem I have only had with the latest version of iTunes.  I have not changed libraries.

How do I delete files on my iPod second gen?  This is a NEW problem I have only had with the latest version of iTunes.  I have not changed libraries.  All files are grayed out.  I have already read related posts in the iTunes community.

Thanks but I had already read this, and it was no help at all.  Under the Summary tab, "Options", there is no check-box to manually manage my stuff.  I suspect this is because it is a 2nd gen iPod, with ONLY manual management.  The only way to delete my stuff seems to be to reset the entire device.
I like to listen to podcasts.  What is particularly frustrating is that the 4th gen shuffle CANNOT play podcasts, but ONLY music, which I discovered after a lot of research and multiple visits to an Apple store.  So I have to resort to an older version of the shuffle to play podcasts  And now with the latest version of iTunes there seems to be no way to delete any podcasts on the older version.  Apple just makes it harder and harder for us podcast-lovers, driving us away from Apple -- driving me away from the entire brand and from ALL Apple devices, not just iPod.

Something has gone wrong - the AppleTV needs to be restored by connecting to a computer running current iTunes version using a microUSB to USB lead.
AppleTv2 does not require power when doing this.
Select the AppleTv Device on teh left in iTunes and restore to current firmware.

  • 667 MHz v 800 MHz RAM in a Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008), will it make much difference?

I know that the Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008) are supposed to run the 800MHz ram, but I’m aware that they also happily run the slightly less expensive 667MHz ram as well?
In the real world would you actually notice much difference between the two? Just that I have 24GB of 667MHz that I could swap over from a 2,1 model into this, or would I be better off in the long run biting the bullet and buying some 800MHz ram?
Interesting to see that OWC seem to ave some kind of exclusive deal on some 8GB 800MHz ram modules that could take the 2008 Macs up to 64GB in total!

In this case and Early 2008, 667MHz FBDIMMs have never  shown to be an issue, work fine (4% hit at  most, which can also be offset by using all 8 DIMM slots with four sets which improves memory bandwidth to it s best).
There have been a few 'enterprising' individuals that have had access to and used 8GB DIMMs for 32 and 64GB total memory w/o trouble but in that case you would want 800MHz DIMMs.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#800-memory
FBDIMMs like many memory modules are not locked to a specific timing and frequency and can be backward compatible.
These from Amazon are only 2GB DIMMs but known to work in 2006-2008. When you get into 4GB the price has jumped up. And 8GB prices have been in the stratosphere, or had free access to server memory source.

667MHz FBDIMMs are cheap, excellent and 4% 'hit' you would never know about.

  • I have Garageband version 4.1.2 (248.7) installed on my early 2008 IMAC Version 10.5.8. I have never upgraded but have a LOT of projects. If I upgrade my operating system to the next level (10.6?), will my GB version still work? Do I need to upgrade GB?

I have a LOT of projects involved and hope they will transfer. Can I (and should I) upgrade GB at the same time and how far should I go with that without causing a problem with my projects? What would I gain if I upgrade GB? Thanks!

my copy of 4.1.2 appears to work under 10.6.8, though i have not done extensive tests

v4 is pretty lonh in the tooth now, and GB only costs $15, so I'd think it's a good idea

the only version you can buy new is v6,a nd it should open older projects without issue ... however you could keep 4 around:

Please help to find my stolen mac book pro - 15 inch,
I have only the serial number of it but Unfortunately I did not have iCloud on it, all my data and researches are there,
The Operating System is mac but I don't remember which version (I think it is the latest because it is updated), also windows & VMWare are installed
WHo can help, please contact me...

As Chris indicated, there is no way to track your MacBook without having set up the Find My Mac feature beforehand (and even if you did, it's quite easily defeated) or having some third-party tracking software installed. All you can do is file a report with the police and hope they get lucky. I can only hope that you made backups of your data and "researches", since I agree with Chris that your chances of ever getting the MacBook back are not good.
You posted in the iTunes for Windows forum, by the way; just so you're aware for future questions.
    Regards.

  • Is 8 gb of RAM safe to install in my early 2008 MacBook Pro? Apple says 4 gb is the maximum.

Apple says that my early 2008 MacBook Pro can only have a maximum of 4 gb of RAM. Has anybody tried adding more than the recommended max? I have heard people say 8 gb is ok but wanted to know if anybody has actually done this. I run parallels desktops with windows 8 and it is incredbily slow. I was thinking if I upgraded the RAM I could dedicate more RAM to both Windows and OSX.

It would appear that the maximum of RAM that an early 2008 MBP will accept is 6 GB.  The specifications are:  200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  I cannot give you a definitive answer since I do not know the exact model number of your MBP. I suggest that you check with OWC and/or Crucial for a definitive answer to your question.
    Ciao.

  • Disk Utility says I have only 115kb of free space left, but Finder says 1TB is this why my computer is slow?

I want to instal the beta version of Yosemite on a partition, but when I open Disk Utility to do so, it won't allow me. After pressing the plus sign at the bottom of the screen I can not enter a value for the size. When I look down at the very bottom I read the following:
    Capacity: 3.12TB
    Available: 115KB
    Used: 3.12TB
My trash is empty and Finder says I have 1TB in free space available, so what's going on?
Perhaps related, my computer has been unreasonably slow (which is why I want to take the Beta for spin). I'm thinking there might be a connection. Is there a way to clear the detailed space so that Disk Utility will recognize it? In an attempt to speed things up I just reinstalled Maverick but nothing happened. I still can't partition and my computer is still slow.
    Everything is up to date.

  • I called apple tech support cause my iphone 5 charger just stopped working. Aplle tech support said they can send me a new charger but why do they need credit card information if i have only had the the charger for 2 months and i have 1 year warranty?

I called apple support because my iphone 5 charger stopped working and they said they would send me a new charger but why do they need credit card information if every apple product has 1 year warranty?

    Hi CryyCorr33
Sound like they did what is called an express replacment. What apple does is they put a hold on your Credit Card for the amount of the cord because they are sending you the cord first. Then, once you receive the new cord in about 2-3 days, you'll put the defective cord in the box and ship it back out and when they receieve the defective one, they'll be able to remove that hold from you card.
I believe the reason behind the hold on your card is incase you don't return your defective one to them so they can find out the cause of the issue.
An Apple Retail Store could swap them out for you in store incase you happen to be near one. This requires no hold.
    Hope this helps

  • How much Ram can I put in my 15inch early 2008 Macbook Pro

Running a 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and currently 2gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  It has 2 slots, whats the max I can put in?  What type of RAM do I purchase and who has the best Price on same.
    Thanks
    milehidef

The technical specifications from Apple say 4 GB but Mactracker says 6 GB.  What I suggest you do is go to the OWC and/or Crucial websites and enter the serial number or other requested data for your MBP and get a definitive answer from them to see exactly what your MBP can handle.  This may very well be one of those cases where what Apple originally configured the machines for was modified by subsequent tests.
    Ciao.
