I have op sys 10.6.7 on my imac and mail 4.5

basically I received a message too large error 8770 from my google.mail email account.
I need to clear this message as it keeps trying to send me some email file.  I have gone onto
google seperately and cleared any incoming or outgoing emails, but Mail, will not clear itself and just spins for hours trying to pull thru some file.
I do not know what file it could be.  I dont know how to just clear it so future mail comes in.
thoughts would be appreciated.....

Your message information for Mail is kept in <yourhomefolder>/Library/Mail.  In that folder you'll see a folder for each mail account.  In that you should see a folder named "INBOX.mbox".  It might work if you moved that folder out of its normal location.  Since Gmail keeps a copy of everything on its servers, it might also work to tell Mail to delete your Gmail account and then recreate it.

I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail.  There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software.  I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are.

i'm newt to apple and have just put a mini cd in my imac and it wont eject.....help

As you've already found, you can't use mini cds in slot-loading drives (which is what Apple uses, as well as many PCs now).

You may not have the iPod's Music tab set up in iTunes, which is how you tell iTunes how to automatically sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked.  Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab.  For example, you can make a playlist in iTunes with all the songs you want on the iPod.  That new album needs to be on that playlist, if you want those songs synced to the iPod.  On the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs sync to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create a playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs), and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity.

    Hi,
Why are you trying to add a book as music? It will not match as this only applies to music files. It will be uploaded if the bit rate is 96 Kbps or greater.
You should change media type to audiobook and you will be able to sync by wifi or USB.

  • I have switched from using a PC to an iMac and want to know how to register Lightroom 5.7 for new Mac?

I have switched from using a PC to an iMac and want to know how to register Lightroom 5.7 for new Mac?

Are you on CC or standalone perpetual licence?
If the former I believe you merely download LR from the CC site onto your iMac and log in and off you go.
If the latter, download LR onto your Mac from the perpetual licence site (not the CC version), install it and use the same licence number as with your PC.

thank you, I have the adaptors so glad that would work.  I just heard adaptors burn out often.  So Just thought for my main iMac computer, a plug would be best.  I will get one once I move.
Any other suggestions or things I should know about apple products in Ireland.  I know there are no Apple stores there.
An adaptor doesn't burn out. It merely serves as a means to connect the power prongs on your device to the power supply.
I believe you are thinking of a transformer, which you do not need. A transformer converts one voltage to another.
You don't need to do that as the power supply of modern electronics can take almost any worldwide voltage.
Look at the label on the device. It should indicate the input power acceptable of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Additionally, I found the adapters cheaper in the UK than I found them in the US. They were available in most supermarket chains. I wasn't in Ireland, so I can't say one way or the other.
If you have something that doesn't have that input power spec, it would require a transformer.
On other items like electric clocks or things with motors, you can connect them up to a transformer and the voltage will be correct, but the frequency may not. For clocks, that will cause them to not keep time well. For motors, they will burn out.

I have just come back from holiday and started my mac up and I have a white spot next to my Finder, Safari and Mail? why?

Are you talking about the indicator for open applications?
If you're on Lion, it just reopened apps that where open when you shut it down.

  • I have just added a time machine to my iMac and it is saying it will take 11 days to do the first back up.  Any ideas?

I have just added a time machine to my iMac and it is saying it will take 11 days to do the first back up.  Any ideas?  It is only 355GB but is being backed up  wirelessly but 11 days?
    Help.

Hi lajetidreaming, I'm in the same boat; "See you in 8 days".
As LaPastenague says, use an ethernetcable for the initial backup.
And I will add; Since TimeMachine don't accept any interruptions during the initial backup, make a small backup first. That is - exclude a number of 'secundary' folders like music etc.
When you have one backup completed, TimeMachine is much more forgiving about interrupts, rebooting your Mac and so.
    Good luck!

    Hi mwatts18,
As a preliminary troubleshooting step, you should reference the information in the following article:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
I would especially suggest that you delete the account and re-add it, making sure that you are entering the correct password when you add the account. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • I have tried a hard reset, plugged into my imac, and into the wall.  The iphone 4 will not turn on.

I seriously need my phone.  I did the hard reset.  Didn't work.  I waited longer.  Didn't work.  I plugged the phone into the wall.  Didn't work. I tried hard resetting while plugged into my computer with iTunes on.  Didn't work  Anymore ideas?  I really need my phone.  iPhone 4.  I hate this phone.  My blackberry never caused me this much grief!

Paul's suggestion may work, but if the Hard Drive was writing when the power was cut abruptly, there may be data corruption, file index corruption or even physical damage to the drive as the read/write heads clash.
If the SMC reset doesn't work, first see if the installation DVD can be inserted. If it can, start up with the C key held down. OK the language screen, ignore the installer and select the Utilities menu at the top of the screen, open Disk Utility. Select the HD in te left pane and click repair (not repair permissions).
If you get a message that repairs were carried out, run the repair again until you either get "the volume xxxxx appears to be OK" or a message that repair can't be carried out.
If it won't boot to the disc, or the disc can't be inserted, try a single-user mode boot - hold down ⌘ and S on start up until the Unix prompt appears.
    Type carefully this command
    fsck -fy
    then press return.
As before, if the prompt reappears with the message that repairs were carried out, run the check again until you either get "the volume xxxxx appears to be OK" or a message that repair can't be carried out (and assume the latter if it hasn't given an OK within 4 tries).
    Type
    reboot
and press return to attempt to start up normally.
If it still won't start, it's fair to say the HD is dead.

  • I have music on my iMac and more on an external hard drive . How can I amalgamate all on my iMac?

Have an iMac  21.5 in late 2012 running iOS 10.10.2 Yosemite I have 25.74 GB of music on the iMac and 109.27 GB on an iOmega hard drive (500GB) and I Want to transfer all of this to the iMac. How do I do this?

You need to consolidate your library to a location indicated by you as the preferred media location in advanced preferences.
iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507 - Unfortunately this is misnamed.  It should say "Change where your media files but not where your library files are stored" - more information at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22026652#22026652 - and steps 5-8 in https://discussions.apple.com/message/24491967#24491967
