had a new hard drive installed last month. now iphoto won't start up, popup says "you can't open the application iphoto because it may be damaged or incomplete". can this be repaired without going to the repair shop?
What installed iPhoto there in the first place? Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac? Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set? You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

The best approach would be to take the iPad to the school's IT person and see what is going wrong, why it will not accept your sign-in. That person can make sure the userid and password are correct on the iPad.

I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome
1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it. -

I have three dvds that play in a dvd player. One of the three plays in my imac but the other two say they are blank. How do I get my imac to read these other two dvds?

As long as the cursor is in the field it stays editable.
The problem with the pen is it's in my hand all of the time. I just flip it up under my thumb against my palm to type. So, as soon as I move the pen, the field goes away and I can't type in it. Hoping this is making sense.
My tablet does have the touch function too, and I just found out I can use my finger to tap in the text field, then type. I guess that'll be my solution since I prefer not to leave a mouse set up on this iMac.
I'm thinking now that this is just a problem with the pen itself, and nothing to do with iPhoto. So glad to have this figured out! I really like iPhoto '11! So much easier for me, a simple P&S gal, than Aperture 3. I use iPhoto Library Manager too and love it!

Yesterday iTunes 10.5 offered to upgrade the iPhone 3G to the version of I don't know, most likely to the new. After that, the screen of the cable and the icon iTunes, you can only dial emergency calls. What to do? How to get back to the previous version, or at least to do so would the phone began to work? Sounds like this was a hacked iPhone...hacked to unlock it so you could use it where you live. One of the big downsides to hacking an iPhone, to unlock it, is that updating software or restoring the phone will re-lock it to the carrier it was originally locked to. This appears to be what has happened to you. You have two choices to fix things: 1. Get the phone officially unlocked, or 2. Re-hack it to unlock it(sorry, can't be discussed here). Good luck.

Can someone explain to me why Apple says you can only have 4GB max in the Unibody MacBook (white)?
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my Intel 2.4 Core 2 Duo unibody MacBook, which currently has 4GB pre-installed Apple RAM. In searching for an answer to whether this machine is expandable to more than 4gbs of RAM this is one answer I came across that I believe is credible:
"Apple lists what they think should be the maximum amount of RAM. However it is not correct. Your Mac can accept 8GB of RAM. Take a look at OWC (just click on OWC) that will take you to the site that sells RAM specifically for Macs. Your Unibody MacBook can accept up to 8GB of RAM 2X4GB. Take my MacBook Pro for instants, Apple claims the maximum amount of memory is 8GB. But in reality it can take up to 16GB. It has more to do with the Processor, rather than the logic board itself. Like I said, I don't doubt the credibility of the answer, I just am looking for someone to give me the "Apple explanation" as to why they cap the White Unibody MB @ 4GB of memory. It seems to be a common consensus that this model machine IS expandable up to 8GBs when looking through discussion forums. I've taken into account the marketing aspect of this from AAPL's perspective, but if someone could lay it out in any amount of detail logistically, I'd greatly appreciate it. Bottom line, I'm trying to assess the risk in upping my machine's memory.
Thanks!When the 1066Mhz RAM first came out 4gb sticks cost $600 each and 8gb sticks were $1600 each. Apple didn't bother testing them since no one was going to pay more for 2 RAM sticks than they paid for the MacBook. Prices later came down but Apple was already on to the next model and didn't bother going back to test on the older models. They left that up to third party sellers.

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. If all the content that is on your iPod is in iTunes, there shouldn't be a problem. Just go ahead and sync your iPod
Otherwise, you are probably wanting to copy everything from your iPod back to your PC first. If that is the case, you should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. I just ran my updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto won't open. I get a pop up that say's You can't use this version of the applicaton IPhoto with this version of os x. You have iphoto 9.2.3.

Note 1: every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2: If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

"You can only read" when Read & Write assigned
The "Backups.backupdb" automatically created on my external hard drive for Time Machine is the folder in question.
I am changing the icons on my EHD folders and it has worked fine for every other folder, because I created them myself of course.
There is no problem with the Time Machine folder and all my backups are perfectly accessible and everything.
All I want to be able to do is change the icon from the blue folder but I have this problem that I can read only even after I've assigned read and write permissions to myself :/

Open the Terminal. Enter the following text, or copy/paste it from here:
sudo rm -R
Do not press enter yet. Put a space after the -R, then drag and drop the folder into the Terminal window. It's path and name will be added to the end of your command. Now press enter. Terminal will ask for your admin password. Type it in and press enter. The folder should be removed.
