I have photos organized into named events in Dropbox, can I import these events directly into iPhoto?

Hi all!
So, my photos are currently in Dropbox, organized into named events that are not time-specific. When I imported them into iPhoto, my photos (all 10,000 of them!!) got placed in time specific albums! Ack! Is there a way to import them with my events still intact? Thanks!

Copy one the folders to the Desktop first and then drag the folder into the open iPhoto window.  That should create an Event with the folder name.  The folder will be placed in the Event window according to the photo with the latest date.
If that works try dragging a folder directly from Dropbox into the open iPhoto window.  If that produces an Event with the same title as the folder continue from Dropbox.

If you want to duplicate your Folder Tree in iPhoto:
Start at the bottom of the hierarchy and drag a folder of images to the Album Heading in iPhoto. The pics will be imported and an Album of the same name created.
You can then create the Enclosing Folders in the iPhoto Window (File -> New Folder) and drag the Album to it. Folders can contain other Folders (Nested Folders) and Albums.
However, is your folder system date based? Then this form of organisation is a bit pointless in iPhoto when Smart Albums or the Calendar tool (Click on the wee magnifying glass in the Search Box) mean you can find the photos taken on any day, month or year at a click. With Smart Albums it's easy to find photos from specific range - say, June 3 to August 25, 2009 etc.
If your folder system is theme based - Xmas pics, Birthday pics etc, then you'll find Keywords are much more flexible, and can be used in conjunction with other criteria for making Smart Albums and searches.

  • I my harddrive with my photo library went bad, but I have the photos on my ipad, ipod and iphone.  How to I get those photos back into iphoto on my macbook?

The external drive with my photo library went bad, but I have the photos on my ipad, ipod and iphone.  How to I get those photos back into iphoto on my macbook?

Are the photos you want to send back to your mac on your iPad, iPod, iPhone saved to the camera roll? If you have photos in other albums (not camera roll) share them to the camera roll.
Then connect your device via USB and lauch iPhoto. You will see your device as a camera in iPhoto.  Import those photos like you would import from a camera.

  • Importing Kodac camera photos (*.fpx) into iPhoto 6.0.2

    Hello,
I switched from Windows PC to Mac (Mac Mini Core Duo) - now I am using iPhoto for my Photo collection. I used to have a Kodac digital camera of the DC series and used the format *.fpx - unfotunately I can not import these pictures into iPhoto.
Somebody any idea what the reason could be?
    thanks
    iPoseidon

    Hi iPoseidon,
that is a flashpix bitmap from Kodak.
Just wondering why the camera is using that instead of jpeg?
Anyway, I don't think iPhoto can import those files.
If you have Graphic converter on your new mac it can convert those files to jpeg for you.

  • Is there an easy way to import those misfortunate photos back into iphoto

I moved my iphoto library to my external drive so that both my laptop and imac can use the synced photo library.
... but now my imac iphoto says I can not open my iphoto library, because is from a newer version of iphoto. And the application then closes.
I figured out my newer laptop has a newer version of iphoto on it.
    Imac iphoto version is 6.0.6
    Laptop iphoto version s 7.1.5
I Downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This created a new library but says a lot of my pictures are lost. I can search and find them on my external drive and reimport, but there are a lot of them! Any suggestions?
I'd rather use the 6.0.6 on my imac than pay for an upgrade.
    I just won't use my laptop's iphoto.
BUT, how can I get my 6.0.6 working again with all of my pictures in tact? Or is there an easy way to import those misfortunate photos back into iphoto painlessly?
    Any other solutions??
Will Snow Leopard have the newest iPhoto included?
    Thank you!

If you want to revert to iPhoto 6 then you have two choices:
    1. Restore from your back up
    or
    2. Create a new v6 Library and start over.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'.
Go into the Old iPhoto Library (Right Click on the Library Icon and choose ‘Show Package Contents) and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the old iPhoto Library.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
“Snow Leopard” is an OS Upgrade. While we have no idea what will be included with it, on past experience, no, it will not include a new version of iPhoto.

  • My document seems to be in three distinct sections. I think that because the thumbnails have three distinct yellow frames around them. Can I merge these into one document?

My document seems to be in three distinct sections. I think that because the thumbnails have three distinct yellow frames around them. Can I merge these into one document?

    Gill,
The three sections are one document. There are usually good reasons for Section Breaks, so you'll want to be sure that you really need to delete them. To get rid of the Section Breaks, just place your cursor at the top of the page following the break and press Delete until the Section Break goes away. It should take only one click for each case.

  • Iphoto unexpectedly qyuits. This began after dragging photo's into iphoto from scanner

iphoto now unexpectedly quits. This began after dragging photo's into iphoto from scanner

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

What update are you referring to?  If you do a search for "Kodak" in the iPhoto community you'll find numerous posts regarding problems with Kodak cameras.
So far there's no known fix.  The best workaround is to use a card reader with the memory card of the camera.

  • I have over 3000 tunes on my itunes account, can i share these with my husband - he has never set up an itunes account

I have over 3000 tunes on my itunes account, can I share these with my husband - he has never set up an itunes account.
    Thanks for your help.
    Jacky

The second link in ingo's response is key.  If you husband syncs his device on the same computer, whether under the same apple I'd or not, you can share music( each pick their own based on what they want to carry around) and pictures, and apps.
Updating apps can get tricky, as they will only update to the original apple id that bought them.  But music is fine.
You may need to authorize the new computer if he will be using a seperate apple id.  And make sure you don't just sync everything, or one device or the other will get wiped.  If you want to sync only music, they'll that to I tunes in the tab setting for that device.

  • Photos uploaded into iPhoto do not appear as available for upload in Safari

    Hi
When using Safari 6.0.2 to post a photo, there is a lag before I can access recently uploaded photos into iPhoto 9.4.2.
Sometimes I need to close iphoto before the photos will appear as 'uploadable' by Safari.  Other times, closing iPhoto does not initially help.
I don't recall this being an issue in the past.

If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as both Last Import and 'Last N Months' are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.

  • Importing 2 icloud photo streams into iPhoto

    Just as the title states..
My wife and I just started our own seperate iCloud accounts and now it seems like we can't combine them in iPhoto.  Before we used one account and pictures were seamlessly across all devices, and now since iOS 8 and continuity out personal iPhones are more connected than we want.  So is there a way to get her photo's and my photo's into photo stream without creating a special album were we have to share them to it and the photo's automatically show up in the iCloud section?
    Thanks for any help!

thank you.  so in order to optimize my HDD usage, I ought to import the photo into iPhoto and then delete the original folder?
Yes, you can delete the files you imported. But don't be in a hurry. I'd back them up somewhere, until you are sure that everything imported well.
last - is there any meta-tagging option in iPhoto?
    You can
batch change titles, date, and description,
    add keywords
    tag faces
and tag places on a map.

  • Import photo edits into iPhoto

When i take a photo on my iPhone and use editing software, the photo is then saved on my phone with the edits saved.
However when i import the photos into iPhoto, the edits are not carried through.
For example if i take a photo on my iPhone and enhance with Camera + and save that photo, when I import into iPhoto, the enhancements do not carry over into my iPhoto album.
Is there any way to fix this?

It will change with the new Photos.app, but until then see:  iPhoto and Aperture don't have edits to photos you import from iOS 8 devices - Apple Support

  • I can't save a photo from facebook directly to iPhoto.  I have to put in download and move it.  How do I save directly to iPhoto?  This is getting frustrating.

I am trying to save directly to iPhoto from Facebook and when I click down load it goes to the downloads and opens in Preview and if I move it from there to iPhoto is still has the preview border.  I did find a way to download to my documents and move it to iPhoto but I should be able to save directly to iPhoto and the right click does not give me the option to save iPhoto.  Does anyone have a solution?

Right click on the photo in Safari and use the add photo to iPhoto option - if that is not there then your only choice is to save to disk and then import to iPhoto

  • New Iphone: Can I importa vcard file directly into Icloud?

    Hi,
a friend of mine is getting a new Iphone and want's to migrate all adresses from the old Nokia phone to the Iphone.
The export of the adress data into a vcard file is not a problem.
Can she import the vcard file directly into icloud.com? to go through a Mac Adressbook is not an option as she's a windows user.
    Thanks a lot,
    Markus

You can manually enter new contacts via iCloud.com but there isn't an option to import. I tried dropping a v.card onto the browser, it indicated it might work but didn't
