I have problem installing my snow leopard
I have problem installing my snow leopard. it says that installing will continue after restart of my computer. But after it has restared, no installation happened. also it keeps ejecting the cd. What am i going to do? I've tried so many times.
as of now, my OS is 10.5.8. I wanted to upgarde it to 10.6 so that i can install the latest itunes.
But, i cant install my snow leopard. it keeps happening and happening again.
My laptop keeps ejecting the dvd. Sometimes i was able to open the dvd and click install. But after I reached "46 minutes remaining", the window will show that the installation will continue after restarting. and when its restarted, the installation did not continue. and im still with 10.5.8.
What should i do?

Impossible to know. But I would make a backup before doing so, just in case. I would also do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you wish to save yourself a lot time should you need to reinstall Mavericks at some point in the future then see the following:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.

You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
/Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time. When completed it would be wise to test the installer by checking that it boots the computer and is then ready for installation. -

Are you referring to the Snow Leopard DVD? What specific model are you installing it on? Are you upgrading an earlier version of OS X? Did you do this before attempting to install the upgrade:

An upgrade can take a couple of hours but usually 45-50 minutes would be normal. -
I had this imac 27" two years back(leopard 10.5.8) and no problem was encountered so far! (thanks 4that),i always made an update as far to snow leopard 10.6.8. Unfortunately when i did some application /downloading,the system was off and when i turn it On the logo of an apple only came.So what i did is to start all over again,now i am two years old back with Leo-10.5.8,My problem is i cannot install my snow leopard,it reads that i have to clean tha disc which i did and thru utility disc.Any help please and i really appreciate to every1 helping me to solve the problem.I will keep in touch.
Many thanks! - AngelBTW,I purchased the SL by retail and originally installed for the first time in my IMAC 27" ,unfortunately during the upgrading of the system,suddenly it was totally gray.then off as it killed my imac.i switch it On but only the apple logo came and waiting for so long.I tried to start from the very beginning,installed the DVD installation that was originally came from imac..it works and i have now the latest version of Leopard 10.5.6...then .8 thru updates. My problem is i cannot re-install my SNOW LEOPARD that i purchased from retail store..proceeded to install in my imac but everytime it ends with 'FAILED-pls clean the disc" i did the cleaning but still the same,:installed failed!-The installer could not copy the necessary support file",i tried booting from the disc holding C down but no luck at all. Computer iMac7,1 has been giving sundry problems for sometime. Within the last six weeks I have reinstalled the OS (Snow Leopard),without affecting the overall contents of the hard drive.
±3 weeks later the problems became more serious and I againreinstalled the OS and installed OS 6.6.7 from the internet.
I used the option to restore from the external backup driveand went back some time as it was my intention to reinstall individualcomponent in an attempt to find out where the problem might lie. This hasintroduced an entirely new problem! If I open Time Machine from the desktop itappears that all backups from late 2009 to June 2011 are intact. But, in thiscase there are none of the restore functions &c on screen. The latter areonly shown if Time Machine is opened from the menu bar or from the dock but, inthis case, available are only backups in late 2009!
I also opened the Apple Hardware Test in an attempt toestablish the nature of the problem. The ‘quick’ version said there’s nothingwrong; the more detailed one reported “Error detected, 4HD/11/40000004.” I haveagain tried to employ this test but nothing I do can induce it to open!!!
What to do? I need help urgently and would appreciate anyadvice that offers solutions to the problem.To check your S.M.A.R.T status open disk utility and click on your drive and then click on the info icon.

the harddrive on my 2008 24" imac died, i purchased a new harddrive and my husband installed it with no problem. i had some misinformation that i would have to reinstall snow leopard and then i could upgrade to lion.
i turned on the computer put the snow leopard installation cd in the drive, then my computer opens to the pewter gray linen looking screen and i see that i can install lion from there. i used the disk utility and erased the new drive, and reformatted and then i went back to the install lion screen and lion is downloading with no problem, BUT that snow leopard cd is in my drive and i can't eject it. is it going to give me problems when the computer automatically reboots? will it try to reboot to that cd instead of continuing with the lion install? can i hold down my mouse to eject it when it reboots or will that mess up the installation?
confused, and i have an hour and 33 minutes to figure it out before it downloads. panicking here.
any help would be appreciated!thank you for answering so quickly, i was really concerned that the computer would try to boot from that cd instead of continuing with the lion install. this was too easy, i'm used to windows installation which is complicated. i should have known apple would have made it simple for me. thanks again for the help!

I have an Imac running snow leopard and have recently installed a cannon i-sensys lbp7750Cdn printer since then I can't get the printer working and the air port has lost the DNS servers; if it ever had them!!! but it dose not look happy and it is telling me so. Can any one help please?
Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc. -
Can I do a clean install of Lion, onto my Mac Book Pro4,1, that is currently running 10.5.8? I have seen U-tube videos on how to do a clean install to Snow Leopard, and another from SL to Lion, but can zero out my HD, and do a clean install to Lion?

Had to wipe my drive so I could do a clean install of snow leopard. Now I have look every where on how to move bookmarks, address book and I cal settings. I have them back up on a external drive with Time machine but can not move, copy or restore my old settings. The instructions I have found or no help or needs more clarafication on what to do.

The white Snow Leopard disk was the right one for that machine as it had Leopard (10.5) on it previously.

To install Windows into BootCamp, you read and run the BootCamp Assistant located in the Applications > Utiltiies folder
It's important to change the drive format from FAT32 to NTFS before installing Windows using the Windows disk.
Windows is rather complicated to install, if you boot to a blinking line with "press any key to continue" you need to press and hold the power button down and reboot holding the Option/Alt key down to get back into OS X.

I bought a new router - Netgear WNR3500L. I had a dlink. The problem is now when I click to open iChat, I don't see any of my Buddies in the window and shortly thereafter, my iChat quits. I have a G5, running Snow Leopard. My firewall is off. I'm not savvy to how the settings should be. Help please!
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443(press return/enter(you might have to tick and untick SSL for 443 to stick)).
Log back in again.
And turn your Mac's firewll on and add iChat. -

Most likely won't run SL unless it's one that was released before Lion went public. Color SL gone from new Macs.

I upgraded to Lion and then all video clips on for instance Youtube freeze every tenth second to buffer more data. I have a MacBook Pro and never had any problems when using Snow Leopard. Has Lion problems with this?
Ulf, SwedenUse the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -

No. That model originally came with Lion, not Snow Leopard. You cannot boot Snow Leopard on that model. Lion is 10.7, not 10.8. The latter is Mountain Lion.
