I have problems saving powerpoint, they become zero bytes

Hi,
I have been having problems with powerpoint file, (also PDF files) I saved them at work on a USB stick using a Windows Computer, and some of the files become zero bytes after I tried to open them at home using Mac Air. I thought it was the problem of the USB stick but I just saved a powerpoint on OneDrive and the same problem existed again, the powerpoint became blank!! in zero byte.....Thankfully I can recover the file. But please can anyone help me to avoid this problem again??
Thanks.

I was hopping that this were not the case and that QuickOffice Pro or Keynotes for the IPad were able to show Math equation that appear in a normal PowerPoint MOffice presentations (that is not much to ask, is it?).
If the apps which are supposed to be especially designed for MS Office stuff, like QuickOffice or Documents to Go or Office², fail to handle your PowerPoints, by all means go and complain to the people who make them.
To ask Apple for improvements in Keynote, you can go to this site (but in the end the compatibility of Apple's programs with MS stuff will always be only partial).

I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari.  I don't have this problem with firefox.

do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again
Sometimes, plug-ins can be in the User Library folder :
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

I'm new to Macbook Pro, and never imagined I would have problems saving bookmarks when I switched to Mac.  Any suggestions with this issue?  I have Safari 6.0.4, and has Apple come up with a permanent fix?

Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
    What is the Modified date?
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • IMac went crazy, no fixed but many files become zero bytes in size

I don't even know where to start. I guess first I'll list some background information:
My wife and I share a iMac which she uses it as her workstation for illustration and I use it as Plex Media Server and Transmission etc. So she would normally use it by day, but my account would be always logged in in the background and I use SSH and Remote Desktop to control my account.
And since the ultimate symptom are I don't how many zero byte files, here are some configuration information.
    1) iMac 27" late 2012 with 128 GB Apple SSD and 3TB HDD
    2) A custom fusion drive with 1 logical volume consist of 3 physical volumes.
    3) The configuration is odd because I wanted to use both fusion drive and BOOTCAMP. So there is a BOOTCAMP volume as well.
This happened in the past couple of days. At first my wife was complaining about loosing wifi connection and keyboard connectivity problems. For wifi I typically instructed her to turn wifi on and off or try to reboot the computer. For the keyboard problem, it turned out to be a software problem not Bluetooth because disabling a third part IME seemed to resolve the problem.
Then at one night, she accidentally unplug the iMac while it's on (it's always on, and my wife never reboot or shut it down unless I intervene). No she freaked out as she couldn't remember if she saved her illustration work. Luckily she did. And at this point of time, after booting it up, the PSD file was intact and the latest version. Okay, we moved on. I didn't worry about too much about the power failure because this happened before. And normally Disk Utility in Recovery HD would fix the problem.
Then on the day after, it started loosing sound. So I tried to fix it. Now when I tried to login, it said "Cannot find "login" keychains". Choose "Restore to Default", doesn't work and Finder was keeping crashing and relaunching. Hopping a restart would fixed but it didn't. Then I tried all regular maintaining techniques include fix disk, fix permission, clear all sorts of caches with OnyX. Because there was a power failure, the disk did need some repairing and according to Disk Utility, it appeared OK now, but the problem was still there.
Then I created a new user, works seemingly fine. Deleted my old account and created it agin with the same UID, same problem. Almost all the applications failed to launch except "Notes" and "Maps". It seemed to be a user problem but using the same user ID but new Home folder, the problem came back. This baffled me. I never came across something like this.
Then I hoped upgrade system to 10.10.3 would help (it was 10.10.2). And it did. Now finder can open. Keychains still missing and could be reset to default. But at least I could open Keychains Access now. And from there I created a new login keychain. And my wife's account didn't have this keychain issue, I assumed the situation was under control.
Now, the wired thing happened. My wife fired up Photoshop, it's reporting problems loading preferences. Moved preferences file else where, it said unexpected EOF. Looked it up and ended LAYOUT.psp or something became zero bytes. I deleted it and let photoshop create default one. Now photoshop works. But the PSD my wife panicked about earlier became zero byte.
Verified the disk again, appears to be OK, again, appears to be OK.
The only thing worth mentioning was the amount of something called "Metadata Volume" and "double redundancy". It says "The Logical Volume Family has a 4482 MB Metadata Volume double redundancy". I'm not sure whether or not this is usual.
Now I'm trying to recovery all the PSD files on the disk with a Data Recovery App. But while I'm waiting I found some other files now its zero bytes. This really worries me. And I'm still not sure what cause the problem or even what the problem was or is. I suspect it has something to do with fusion drive as when I do rsync -W --inplace, the speed is normally 20~30 which is a bit low to me.
If you read this far, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry it's so long and unclear. It's because its like nothing I encountered before and the problem is hidden with many little issues on the surface.
But I will try to summarise my question:
    1) What could possibly be the root cause of those problems
    2) What happened to those files.
    3) Is there anyway to recovery them other than standing all the sectors of the disk
    4) Would it be better off with fusion drive.

  • Have problem saving or viewing PDF attachments in outlook email

I can't open or save attachments that are PDF in outlook email.  I can save other attachments, wich leads me to believe maybe this is related to the ADOBE READER not set right.
Get error message that says, "Can't create file:  PURCHASEORDER.pdf.  Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."
I am trying to save to desktop.  Have tried other folders too without success.
    Any help would be appriciated.

I'm having issues with downloading images via iPhoto they show partially downloaded however when i go to edit the photo they readjust to a full image is there away to repair this issue ?

    Downloading from where?
    they show partially downloaded
Where do you see this? What does it look like?  Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?
The standard fix suggestion is this:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Zipped fonts become "zero KB"

When someone sends me zipped files that contain fonts (or if I zip collected mechanicals and FTP to a printer), the fonts sometimes show up at their destination as Zero KB Unix files.
    Theories:
    • Mac zip cuts off resource fork in Type 1 fonts (Maybe Stiffit zip would work?)
    • PC on one end; Mac on the other (or maybe Tiger on one end, Leopard on the other)?
    • FTP of compressed zip? Maybe email uncompressed font files to avoid corruption?
Anyone seen this? Anyone solved this? Ideas?
    Thanks,
    - Jeff

I even have the same fonts myself so I tried zipping those as well as burning a cd from my desktop.
?????? There must be some very playful gremlins on that Mac.
I do believe you, but it just doesn't make sense. It should not be at all possible for the files to become 0 bytes in size when they're normal in the zipped mail and on CD.
Does that Mac show the correct size of the files on the CD, but they become zero bytes when copied to the hard drive?

  • Fonts become zero kb (not SMB)

One machine is on 10.2.8, the rest of us are at Tiger.
We are trying to copy over fonts to use on this machine and everytime we try, they get the generic icon and show a size of 0kb.
I copied from the server via afp instead of smb, no luck. I zipped and emailed, no luck I even burned a cd, pulled them off both straight from the cd and from a zipped archive but no luck.
It's as if the system won't allow these fonts to be used?? We're using Suitcase X1 on that machine and it's using other fonts fine.
The fonts in question are HelveticaNeue and Compressed files which are postscript.
    Any ideas?

  • Problem saving data model when using Oracle DB Pivot feature

I have problem saving a data model - SQL Query that uses the Oracle DB PIVOT feature?
When I hit save, nothing happends.... have also tried "save as" - nothing is saved
    No error message is shown.
Is Oracle DB PIVOT not supported by OBIEE?
The SQL that is causing the problem is this one:
    SELECT * FROM
    SELECT field_name as field,
    CASE
    WHEN col_1 = 'A' THEN 'Name 1'
    WHEN col_1 like 'B_%' THEN 'Name 2'
    END
    as gastype,
    energy
    FROM table_1
    WHERE code = 'K'
    AND trunc(DAYTIME,'YYYY') = trunc(to_date('2012-01-01 00:00:00','YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'), 'YYYY')
    AND (col_1 in ('A') or col_1 like 'B_%')
PIVOT (sum(energy) for (gastype) in ('Name 1' as Name1, 'Name 2' as Name2))
    order by field
We are using OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7 (Win 2008R2) against Oracle DB 11.2.0.3

Just a wild guess .. Have you done dbsetup after installing IAS and said you are going to said databases ?

  • Zero-byte attachments

having problems with powerpoint(pps) and wmv attachments coming from pc senders through Mail. When I try to open these attachmts, the proper app begins to launch(keynote for pps, etc) but I get an "unknown error" or "import error" message. Upon looking at these files, they are zero bytes. thanks for your ideas

    Hello n:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
    wmv attachments
If you have not done so, download Flip4Mac. That permits WMV files to open in Quicktime.

I use Office 2004 to open the rare powerpoint file I receive and have not had problems (but I cannot remember when I got the last one).

  • Why are my iCloud Pages documents showing as "zero bytes" in Pages on my MacBookPro?

Many of my Pages documents that are stored in iCloud can not be opened in Pages on my MacBookPro.  They show "zero bytes".  Is there something I can do to have them showing their full size and be accessible from Pages on my MacBookPro?

I realize it's probably an imponderable question and I could do the dragging thing from iWork in iCloud to iWork.com Beta and vice versa. It doesn't really seem right, or even Apple-like, that Numbers on my iPad saves to the ICloud iWork and Numbers on my iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro saves their documents to iWork.com. Why the heck aren't they saved to the same iWork? This should work more smoothly if they want people to use the iOS device to it's fullest extent.
So, there's no way around it. At some point I'll have to pick one of the iWorks to work on the documents from. I guess it would have to be the iCloud iWork since the iOS Numbers can't get to the iWork.com iWork? And I'll have to save the Numbers docs on the Macs and then drag them to the iCloud iWork? Brilliant! Same for Pages?

  • Using my Mac all pdfs result in zero byte files

I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result.

This sounds very alarming. Please help us understand what you are seeing as it is not typical and may even be unique. For instance,
    * are these old PDFs which used to be fine but which now are not?
    * is it new PDFs that you are making (how)?
    * how do you see that they are zero bytes?
    * what Mac OS?
    * anything else you can think of especially, other strange things starting around the same time.

Save/Export them as JPG. Photoshop defaults to PSD, so make sure you select JPG and not just rename the file to .jpg.
There are two ways to save them as JPG: Regular Save as option or Save for Web & Devices
    Take your pick.
