I have purchased an ipad from a house clearance, the previos owner has passed away, can i reset it?

i have purchased an ipd mini from a house sale, the previous owner has passed away, i need to reset it, can I?

you can ask the family to remove it from the iCloud account
I believe that would be presuming the family even knows the owner's password or has access to the owner's email account where they could receive an e-mail responding to a password reset request.
