I have removed the hard drive from my laptop and connected it to my netbook as an external drive. Now, I can't find or acces my saved Firefox bookmarks on the external drive. How do I get it to display like it did on the original laptop?

Now that I am using it as an external drive, how do I get the harddrive I removed from my laptop to display like it did when it was still in the laptop , when I connect it to a new computer?. I can't locate my Firefxox bookmarks that I originally saved to the HD when it was in the laptop. The laptop is dead but fortunately I was able to salvage the hard drive. I Need help urgently since I have tons of bookmarked pages and saved passwords that are critical to my work and life. The original laptop that the HD came from has a Windows Vista OS. The netbook I connect the HD to uses Windows XP.

After downloading OS X I can't find any of my photos I had on my mac. How do I get them back?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

  • If i previously had my iTunes library set up on an external hard drive, how do I get my iTunes on my new mac pro to operate off of the same hard drive?

I recently bought a mac pro. I previously had a macbook that I had set up for iTunes to run off of an external hard drive. How do I set up my mac pro to run off of this hard drive?  I have been trying to figure it out for the last hour and have had no luck.
I have tried to move my itunes folder on my mac pro to my external hard drive but am having no luck. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

If you had the entire library running from the external drive it should be a matter of holding down option as you start iTunes and browsing to the library on the external drive.
If you'd followed the advice to move the media folder only then ideally you need to recover the library folder from your Macbook with a view to making the library portable on the external drive.
Otherwise you're going to have to simply import the content into a new library, losing rating, playlists, play counts. etc.
If you have any devices that sync to your library see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Are you recovering Lion or later Time Machine backup with a Lion or later machine?
If you are, then use this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Other Time Machine restore options are here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
Note, if recovering from a PowerPC Mac (iMac G5, PowerMac, Mac Mini G4, iBook, Powerbook), this tip is important:

Otherwise use the recommended restore option with whatever backup software you used initially.

  • Installing recovery HD accidentally deleted all my files on External Hard Drive - How do I get back??

I am preparing my mac for selling, and I wanted to keep mountain lion on it, so I tried to install Recovery HD. however I accidentally clicked yes when it said it will delete from the external hard drive. So now all the files I had saved on there, including all my songs, are gone. I can't use time Machine because my time machine backups were on that hard drive. Someone please help me!!

If you erased that hard drive accidentally, there's not much you can do to easily recover. You can try some recovery utilities, like Data Rescue or File Salvage. The results are not likely to be pretty, as you will have lost the entire directory structure.
For the future, one set of backups is not enough, for precisely this kind of reason. Also, storing other data on the same drive as your backups is a similarly bad idea. Maintain a minimum of two separate backups, on two completely separate physical devices, and do not put any other data on any of those backup drives.

  • Replaced Hard Drive--How Do I Get My iTunes Account Back?

    Hi all,
My hard drive melted down. Because it had corruption on it, I couldn't simply transfer the system to the new drive and have had to reinstall software from discs and drag my data over from my external backup. I have done that with iTunes too, but the Store won't recognize my account and I can't play my iTunes purchased songs.
Just now, I created a new account--same name, same credit card etc (I don't know why it would let me do that. The STore asked me to reexamine my account info, but would only give me the option to open a new account). Anyway, it looks like a mistake because now I have a pristine iTunes with nothing in it.
It's a daunting thing when a hard drive implodes, but the worst thing, as always, is dealing with iTunes. I love being able to buy music legally, but I don't like the way iTunes suddenly decides you're not authorized or your account doesn't exist or there already is an account with that name but you're not it. If PayPal can work with a simple password system, I don't see why iTunes can't.
Anyway, any help with this tedious process would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GB

    Thanks, Chris.
Of course I was wrong about the new account. When I entered the username I forgot to attach my email domain, so it was not in fact an identical account name.
My other issues revolved around messages that said "iTunes Library could not be opened because it is on a locked disk or you do not have permission." I figured out how to deal with that--highlighted the iTunes Library, Got Info, and changed the permissions. It had somehow removed my username from the Owner slot. Had to do it for the Genius library, and the ibtb library as well. So it seems to be working fine now.
I'm selling this computer however, so I'm going to want to merge my iTunes libraries onto one machine. Don't know how to do that but I'll post in another thread.
    Thanks again,
    GB

  • New hard drive - how do I get ipod music onto pc

Ok, I know, I know I should have backed up more frequently etc etc.....but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Basically my hard drive has crashed and I have had to completely replace it. Obviously my itunes on my pc is now completely empty but my ipod has 20GB worth of songs on it..........
....therefore, my question is, how can I populate the itunes library on my new pc with the songs currently only stored on my ipod??

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • If I ever wiped out my hard drive, how would I get everything back using time machine?

    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
