I have rented and watched 4 movies which, though expired still appear in my video folder. I cannot watch them, but my ipad shows 4 videos in the "about" tab and shows several gigs of video used. How do I get rid of them and free up the memory?
I need to find a way to delete itunes rented movies that still seem to remain on my ipad after being watched. The ipad shows memory allocated to the video and counts them in the "about" tab of my settings. I can't watch them and cannot seem to delete them from the ipad or during sync.
Go in Settings. Video. Un click the Show all videos

Rented movies won't delete; how can I get rid of them?
They have been on my iPad longer than 30 days, and I can no longer access them, but they are eating up memory and I can't download anything new. Can't find the files on my computer to erase the files there. I am at a loss. How can i get rid of the movies on my iPad?
Try tapping Videos, swiping your finger across the movie and then tapping delete.
If you can't delete the movie that way, try checking Manually managing music and videos from the iPad Summary tab in iTunes, then click the triangle to the left of the iPad under Devices in iTunes. Then delete the movie from the iPad using iTunes by clicking Movies under the iPad and right-cicking the movie and choosing delete. -
i have changed computers and the new user of my old computer wants to use itunes. i deauthorised the computer and uninstalled itunes. when he reinstalled itunes all my songs and apps are still there. how do i get rid of them for him?

I have 4 Trojan Horse viruses on my external drive I use for Time Machine. My MacBook Pro hard drive is clean. I have eased the external drive 3 times using Disk Utility and it still has the 4 Trojan Horse viruses. How do I get rid of them. I am using 10.8.3 Wayne

Those look alot like file names and not infection names. I don't find any reference to anything like that on Norton or VirusTotal. Since you said these were Trojans, I would expect to see "Trojan" as part of the infection name.
".jar" files are executable Java applets. The random alpha-numerics would seem to indicate a cache file, likely from a browser with Java enabled. And we all know what ".zip" means.
Worst case is that you had Java enabled in a browser and were infected by one of the late variants of the Flashback Trojan over a year ago or one of a couple of other attacks using the same vulnerability but targetted against a small number of political sympathizers. Much more probable is that thes were Windows only Trojans. Hopefully you have a fully up-to-date OS X, including Java, and have disabled Java in all your browsers by now. -
So there are all these songs, from ADELE to Zapp and Roger. I don't recall purchasing any of them. Some of them were clearly purchased years ago by my daughter, who now has a different account (and doesn't know the current password to my account).
They do not show up anywhere in iTunes except on the iPad. They are not downloaded to the iPad - but I don't want them to show up in the purchased index. How do I get rid of them? Do I have to join iMatch or whatever to do this?
Also, this may explain why we're being told our iCLoud storage is full - there are actually hundreds of these unwanted songs.
Any ideas?Purchased music does not count against your iCloud storage and you cannot get rid of them in the purchased tab.

I updated my iphone yesterday. I have the 4S. I have my daughters and mine contacts now. I don't want hers. How did that happen and how do I get rid of them?
This happens with you are both syncing data such as contacts on your devices with the same iCloud account. This will result in the data being merged and synced back to all connected devices. To correct this you need to have different iCloud accounts on each device.
To do this, on the device that will be changing iCloud accounts go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone. After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from the phone, not from iCloud, so the other phone won't be effected by this.) Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different ID, then turn data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to your new account. At this point you will have two separate iCloud accounts on each phone with identical data.
Next, you'll have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and delete the unwanted data (for example, deleting her contacts from your iCloud account and vice versa). These changes will be reflected on each device and things should now be fixed. -
i have black boxes around all the images i bring into pages. why are they there and how can i get rid of them?
Pages rememebers the last setting you used on images.
So if you had a border on the last image the next one you bring in will have one too.
To change that select:
Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > None
Spend a little time exploring the menus and particularly the Toolbar and Inspectors whcih are in reasonably logical progression from big things down to smaller details and clearly labeled.
It is also possible that you have show Layout on which outlines objects on th screen so you can see what's what. To change that:
Menu > View > Hide Layout

I wish I had a solution (and yours is a fairly recent Mac) but that symptom is similar to those of a failed screen. The repair is often $500-$1000! If you run an external monitor from this iMac, I'd try that to see if the problem goes away. If it is gone, then the screen itself on the iMac has gone bad and you can use an external monitor, they cost about $100 or so. If the lines also show up on an external monitor, then it is likely that your graphics chip has gone bad.
Another thing to try -- boot into safe mode, as safe mode bypasses some of the more advanced graphics hardware. If the screen is ok, you might be able to use your computer in a lower graphics mode.
Another thing to do: run the Apple hardware Test DVD that came with your Mac. It may pinpoint the problem immediately. -

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

Go under settings, mail, contacts and calendars and then choose only to sync back 50 or 100 or 1000 mails. Chances are you don't really need the old ones on your device and it'll save room (I have mine set to 50)
