I have run disk utility- the drive is corrupted- I get the error message restart your computer holing down the Cmd
I have now tried every variant of key compbinations but I still get the grey lock icon with a box which won't accept my password.
When re-running disc utility all I get is the same error message
I ran the Disk Utility and got a message that it can't repair the disk. This happened after I did a restart Command and R. After trying the repair cycle I got a message "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed - up files" I found myself stuck because I couldn't shut down the Disk Utility. Out of frustration and patience I turned the I-Mac off by pressing the start key, thinking it would restart my computer. I feel like a fool now! I started the computer up and all I got was a grey screen with a flashing file with a question mark inside the file icon which is blinking off and on. I tried attaching my Seagate hard drive with no luck. What can I do? Thank You!

Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Restart your computer by holding the power......
This morning i was fooling around with a /usr/local file, i accidently deleted it and the computer stopped responding, so i held the power button for a few seconds and the computer turned off. Upon pressing it again, the apple logo appeared, followed by a black screen with a black box inside it saying restart your computer by holding the power button for a few seconds... so i did that, and restarted the computer.. Nothing, the same box appeared again, Kept trying and trying..

ThanksJust recently I tried to upgrade my vuze and install limewire and upon installation I suddenly get a gray tint come down over the screen and a multi language message that says 'you need ot restart your computer. hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button'. the only way out of this screen is to, as it tells me hold down the power button and stress out my computer. can someone help? I have read up on a similar problem that happens to people at start up but this is particular to these two programs only for me so far...

my 3 year-old macbook pro is very slow. I have run disk utility and virus scan with no improvement. The "beach ball" will spin for minutes at a time when opening, closing or changing windows. Apple Store looked at it a few months ago with no help. What can I do?

Under System: out of 2GB - 54.7MB free; 530MB wired; 603MB active; 862MB inactive; 1.95GB used.
Is too much of the system memory tied up? If so, what can I do to free some up? -
I have a wireless network at home. I run my iphone and ipad on it with no problems. Just purchased a MacBook Pro, and now my wi-fi keeps disconnecting and i get an error message saying another device is using the same IP address. What does all this mean?

I keep getting this error message: Time Machine could not complete the backup. 'The backup disk image "/Volumes/FreeAgent Drive/xxx MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" is already in use.

I get an error message when trying to sign into the support community with another Apple id. On the <pick a username> screen I get "an account utilizing this address already exists.Only one account per email address is allowed on the Apple Support Communities" despite trying a few usernames. Anyone know how I can resolve this?
This problem has been driving me demented. The instructions that Ivan gives have partially worked for me. By following his link
"How to find out if you have multiple Apple IDs" I was able to identify that yes I did have two apple accounts using the same e mail address. One was very old that I used to use for the forum boards and one is my much more recent ID that I use for everything these days. So I changed the e mail address for the old account which is associated with these discussion boards and that's the account that I am now posting this from. However even though the two accounts now have different e mail addresses when I try to log onto the boards with my more recent main apple ID I still get all the same errors as described at the start of this thread by rodgers_j. And of course that's the one I want to use so that I only have one itunes account for everything.
So if anyone has any more hints I'd be very grateful. -
I have just upgraded to the icloud and now I am getting an error message on ical - saying "make sure the URL is correct", I haven't changed anything so why is it now an issue? any ideas?
The full message sasy "The calendar https:// cal.me.com:8443/principas/users/(server number) was not found on the server. Make sure the URL is correct.10.6.8 cannot access iCloud's facilities - you can set Mail up manually and there is a hack which some people have used to sync calendars (see below) - you cannot sync any other type of data.
This is the situation with iCloud and Snow Leopard:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.

Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is). -

I want to add Narration to my movies. I've watched the Elements Guided Help for Narration, and closely followed their procedure. But when I click the RECORD tab, I get an error message. "Your current audio hardware selection dos not have any input channels." My question, therefore: Do I need to buy an external microphone? I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, running WIndows 8.1. I thought I had a built-in microphone. But ,maybe not. Please help. Also, WHAT KIND of microphone - exactly - should I buy? Thanks for your help.

Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and ASIO tab and click on it.
Under the Input tab, make sure that you have your microphone selected.

Excellent apple networking on Lion or ML is usually the issue.
Reboot the TC.. if that don't fix it.. reboot the whole network.. modem.. router.. TC.. clients.. restart in that order.
There are tools.. download the real tool if you have lion..
For ML you are stuck with toyland.. AU 6.1 .. good luck with the plastic hammer.
