I have Safari Version 5.1.10 Search Problem

Up until a few minutes ago, I had a search bar at the top right of the screen AND could see and type in URLs for web sites and both are gone? This makes Safari useless for me and I'm having to use Firefox to even access this support...  What can I do?

The newest version of Safari integrates the search field with the URL field.  Just type in the word for your search.  Note, you can always go to http://www.google.com/ to get the same search engine you would in that field.    Go to View menu -> Customize toolbar to see if there is an option to have a separate search field.  If not, you have one of the newer versions of the URL field that has a built-in search.

Or is there an update available from somewhere?

No, it’s not. Run the Software Update pane of System Preferences, or go to the Mac App Store and click on the Updates tab.

Probably not, but it's impossible to be certain in advance; back up everything first.
It isn't possible to update Safari past 5.1.10 without upgrading the computer's OS.

  • Safari Version 6.0.5 continually crashing

i have Safari Version 6.0.5 running on OS X 10.8.4 and Safari continually crashing. Sometimes within a second or two of going to a new page, other times while I am using it, other times while it has been sitting there doing nothing while remaining on a page for a few minutes. I have tried the obligatory Verify/Repair permissions. No difference. Yes, I do have a few extensions, like 1Password, AdBlock, and Gostery. 1Password had a record of crashing Safari a while back, but that supposedly has been fixed.
The crashes are getting intolerable and I have no idea how to narrow down where the issue is without uninstalling each extension at a time and seeing what that does. Tedious and I am hoping there is an easier way to find and fix the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I can no longer log onto either of my banks. I have Safari Version 6.0.3(7536.28.10). I just did an update. On the apple bar there is https and a paddle lock. clicking on that it says I'm using an encrypted connection. I can't get past this. Help?

" On the apple bar there is https and a paddle lock."
That's standard. Has nothing to do with your issue. What happens when you try to log into a bank web site? What is the response?

  • How to do tab with Safari version 2.0.2 do i need to upgrade?

I'm using ibook Mac OS X Version 10.4.3
I have an imac with Safari version 2.0.4 can do tab (apple+T).
I want my ibook with have Safari Version 2.0.2 to do tabbing do.
    So..
    HELP ! !

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Apple + T ought to work in 10.4.3. Strange it doesn't. Perhaps upgrading the operating system to the most recent version will correct any OS X file problems.
Upgrade the iBook to 10.4.10 by going to Software Update in System Preferences. Do not use the computer for other tasks during the installation. When complete, go to your Finder: Applications folder>Utilities and double-click Disk Utility to open the application.
When opened, single-click on your HD (left side). Then, in the middle-right, select "repair permissions".
Next, return to Software Update to make sure all required items are installed. If others appear, such as Security Updates, select them for installation. Same steps as above.
When complete, open Safari, trying the Apple Key + T.

  • Safari Version

I have Safari Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3) and it seems like I keep getting errors message saying that they don't support this version. I assume that this is an older version. How do I update my version? or do I need to buy a new os version?

You’ll need to buy Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD; click here.
If your Mac’s compatible with Yosemite and you choose to upgrade to it, it’s free.
If your Mac’s compatible with Lion but not Yosemite, that requires a purchase.
    Firefox is free.

  • Safari Version 6.0.2 (7536.26.17)  Yahoo security - Using Yahoo search engine: while logged into Yahoo my entire screen gets taken over by a full page popup add/i've cleared histories

    Safari Version 6.0.2 (7536.26.17)
I believe my problems stem from the public side of Yahoo where I go to open my Yahoo Email account, and/or from the file I get in
    email.
Yahoo security - Using Yahoo search engine: while logged into Yahoo my entire screen gets taken over by a full page popup add/i've cleared histories & cookies & flash cookies but the problem returns, sometimes right away, sometime on the next log on … what to do … . I’ve heard of this problem being called a form of ‘yahoo mail hijacking’.
Yahoo is better than Google right now. While using Google as a search engine and logged into Yahoo-mail the page elevator (up& down) bar actually freezes, a dead giveaway that something is up. So far nothing I do will stop the page elevator from freezing when I'm using the Google search engine. I either have to use the Yahoo or Bing search engines.
MacPro w/OS X ver 10.7.5 & Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac ver 12.4 (73) /  I update Norton security at least 3-times a day. I thing I get the bug when I log onto my Yahoo Email and go through my emails. When problems get constant I Reset Safari then run flush to burn flash cookies. What else can I do?
Yahoo wanted $58-bucks for a consult, that’s ********. You would think Yahoo would want to be advised of ongoing Yahoo Searchengine / Yahoo Email problems, and want to help there users with ongoing problems. Sure they will help me with their problem for $58, and probably even suggest even less than what I am already doing on my own.

It's hard to tell from your description what is going on, but try this first.
Quit Safari. If it won't quit in the usual way, select
     ▹ Force Quit...
from the menu bar, then select Safari from the list and press return.
Relaunch Safari by holding down the shift  key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the bad page from reloading automatically. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove all website data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Also get rid of the useless Norton crapware, after backing up all data.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

  • My fast speed internet is so slow. I have Safari 5.0.6. Is this an old version or not compatible. Please help.

Please help me. I'm not the most computer literate person and I just advanced my internet service with Bright House Networks to 90 and they said my computer is faster than theirs but they are not here to see it is worse than dial up. They said it's not their network rather my operating system. I have an Apple Mac Mini with Safari version 5.0
    6.  Is there a faster Safari, does anyone have any advice for me? I would really appreciate any feedback on my issue.
    Thank you in advance.

If you have Safari 5.0.6 that's the latest version for 10.5.8 Leopard.
Can you test in a new or Guest user account on your computer ?. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2542 - it's easy to do.

  • I have received the alert that my version of Safari no longer supports Youtube viewing. I am running version 5.1.10 on OS 10.6.8. Is there an update or a newer Safari version that is compatible with my OS?

I have received the alert that my version of Safari no longer supports Youtube viewing. I am running version 5.1.10 on OS 10.6.8. Is there an update or a newer Safari version that is compatible with my OS?

No, not without upgrading to a higher version of the Mac OS. However, the easiest thing to do is get another browser for use with sites that don't like older versions of Saari. I always have a secondary browser on any computer, Mac or PC. For our Macs, I install FireFiox alongside Safari when setting up a new computer.
As FireFox is updated sometimes weekly, YouTube should not have a problem with it.

Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for.  Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.
