I have scratch marks from the smart cover(polyurethane)

I got this APPLE iPad2 early Febuary 2012 & now it's April. I took the smart cover off only twice. When I took it off today a piece of metal came off. Also the smart cover left a 2 marks on the side of the ipad & there's a dent on the magnetic strip on the smart cover. I do not have protection for this ipad. With the one year limited warranty does anyone know if APPLE could replace this or am I out of luck? I do not like how it looks seriously.

I, i think I had the same problem as you ... I had a big scratch on the bottom of my iPad .. So I called apple and they set me an appointment at the apple store... At the apple store They did persist but they finally changed my iPad and my smart cover for new one ... I hope it helped you ...

Wait a sec did this just start?
You set up the smart cover function in settings (you did that, right?) so, if you did that and it's failed you make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar now.

  • My ipad3 slid down the Smart Cover and now glass is cracked. What can I do?

My Ipad 3 slid down from the Smart Cover and the glass is now cracked. What can I do?

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty (unless you are in the US and have AppleCare+ which I think covers 2 cases of damage for an excess). I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price for repair (i.e. replacement) for the iPad 3 is (from here) $299, and here in the UK (from here) £256.44 . Are you need to an Apple store that you could go into ?

    Hi everyone !
Yesterday I found that I have a big scratch on the left side of my iPad third gen... This scratch have been made by my smart cover ... I called apple and they said that it's not suppose to happen ! I also read on Internet that when your iPad has this problem apple replaces yours for free ... Is that true ... Sorry for my bad English ;)

It would be difficult to prove that the scratch was caused by the Smart Cover and not by some accident that you had.
    is that so?

  • Does the Smart Cover protect the ipad mini from falls

I have smashed my ipad mini and am getting a new one. I need something to protect the screen from falls and the Smart Cover doesn't look like it will do it?

The Smart Cover will provide no real protection against falls. Only a case will provide much protection, and then only a case that provides significant padding or other shock protection, cases like the Otterbox models.
    Regards.

  • Help with broken screen on new ipad plee I have brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

I have just dropped my brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

    Flat rate $299.
Actually, they won't replace the screen, they'll replace it.  The following is a C&P from the link that I gave you.
"If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below."

  • Is there a way to have my iPad Mini's Smart Cover open up to the lockscreen instead of unlocking it?

I'm using 32gb iPad mini 1st gen, which is running iOS 8.1.2. I have a Zagg Keyboard Folio Smart Cover.
My "lock/unlock" option in settings is on, and works just fine, but while I want my iPad to lock itself automatically I do not want it to UNlock—just turn the screen on upon opening the device.
I DO NOT want to use a passcode to do this.
I found a thread posted three months ago on Reddit (will link soon) which said this was possible with a "iPad cover unlock" toggle setting in "General," but I cannot find this option in my settings.
Does anyone have any ideas? It bothers me in the most insignificant manner possible, but I would like to change it if I can.
I fully appreciate any and all help! Thank you in advance!

You cannot set it to unlock only. It's both or nothing.

  • I have uploaded photos from the past and they are grouped by dates.  How do I seperate those photos into their own folder/album so that I can easily identify the contents.  Also, what is the difference between Album, Smart Album and folders?

I have uploaded photos from the past and they are automatically arranged by date.  As a result, there are many events grouped into one library/event/folder/album (not sure of the proper terminology) I'd like to separate them into folders/albums/smart albums so that I can easily identify the contents.  How do I do that and do I delete the originals?

It would be good to take the tutorials and learn iPhoto - these are for the previous version but the concepts are the same and much of the command is the same - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration. - also the tutorials in iPhoto Help will be helpful - while iPhoto is easy and intuitive it does have a learning curve and it will save you time and pain if you spend a few minutes learning the basics
as to organization - events are generally time based and are the basic automatic organization - you can merge and split them to make them work better for you but they are not a good way to do detailed organization - best to leave them time based
albums are logical things that contain photos and are just pointers to the photo in the event so they take no extra space and all changes to a photo anywhere are reflected everywhere
Smart albums are the same except they are automatically filled based on the criteria you set when you create them
Folders are containers that you create and a folder can contain albums, smart albums or other folders so they are a big help in organization - like a vacation folder that holds folders for France, USA, China with each of thos folders holding albums of photos from the country

  • If I buy the smart cover and my iPad have a code, when I open the case will be unlocked?

I would like to buy the iPad mini smart cover, but my iPad have a password, so I don't know if I get it, the cover will auto unlocked my password?

No.  When you open the Smart cover, the iPad will be at the Enter Passcode screen waiting for you to enter it.  No Autounlock.

  • How to use the Smart Cover for FaceTime and Videos?

    Hi,
I bought a new iPad recently with a Smart Cover. I find the Smart Cover very good for typing, at the low angle. The angle is very nice, it feels very comfortable and it allows fast typing. But then what is called the FaceTime/Video angle seems way too steep for me, like 80 degrees. I need to be like 3 meters away, at least, to watch a movie correctly or to be captured by the FaceTime camera. I'm rather tall but still, I don't really get it. I thought for the first couple of days that I was folding the cover in a wrong way but it seems not.
Am I the only one to experience this issue? Or is there another way of folding the cover to get a correct angle? I haven't tried another Smart Cover but I would doubt that mine is faulty. But if it is how the Smart Cover is designed, I'm surprised that Apple went with that, I mean, I can't see the use of this angle, if you need to be so far away from the iPad. I actually bought one (and the Smart Cover) to use it as a support for books/tutorials when I'm coding on my Mac, and I'm finding that I can't find a place for the iPad with the cover on my desk because it ends up to be too steep anywhere I place it...

My experience is the same as yours (and everyone else's, I suppose.)
Other than the various ways you can fold it, Smart Cover is not adjustable.
This link shows what Smart Cover can do.
You have already found the best workaround for Smart Cover: reposition yourself, the iPad, or both so the camera view shows what you want in the picture.
You decide the best location for your iPad while you capture video.  Because iPad connects wirelessly, you need not worry about dangling cables.

  • Will the smart cover be inside the box of the iPad 2 or a separate package?

I bought the iPad 2 black Friday and heard it was delivered yesterday. Not getting it until Christmas, but I have been watching unboxing videos on YouTube and found one that had smart cover in box of iPad 2. Did anybody, who bought the iPad 2 online, find the smart cover inside the box?

No you have to purchase it separately from your iPad.

  • Any cases other than the smart cover? or some that go with it?

    Hey,
Has anyone had any luck with affordable cases that work WITH the smart cover? I am mainly talking about cases or covers for the back of the iPad that work with the fancy smart covers.
I will bet a pretty penny a bunch of case designers will make back covers to go with the smart covers.
Has anybody found any other cases in general?
The smart cover scratching the iPad is pretty bothersome. Not sure if I want to get one anymore...

I'm guessing the only way to get around this issue were if someone was to manufacture those clear films (ie like the screen protectors)for the back/side of the iPad 2. I'm guessing it would have little adverse effect on the magnets efficiency and you could replace them however often required? Its certainly something I would look into.

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

  • Does anyone has a problem with the screen of the new ipad? (there's a part of the screen which the color in it is "very" bright) and when I move the aluminium part of the smart cover when it's attached to the ipad the colors change!! Help!!!

I'd take it into my local APple store and have them look at it. There may be something wrong inside your device.

The setting for iPad cover lock/unlock is in settings > general for iPad 2.
The iPad 2 and new iPad if both are using iOS 5.x or later the setting exist in settings > general.
So, if you worked at an apple store I think you should have known that the setting exist.
You are right, a hard reset (force restart) should only be used if iOS device is unresponsive or apps crashing...etc.
But, a simple restart helps as well.
