I have some questions on the PowerON Reuse and Recycling system

My iPhone 5 is in very good codition, and I went through the questions on Apple's website, resulting in a $355.00 evaluation, which I think is quite fair. However, the payment comes in the form of an Apple Gift Card. I'd really like to put that money towards the iPhone 5S, but it seems the only way possible to do that is send off my phone and be without it for however long it takes to get the Gift Card. Is there any way I can use this service and not have to go days without my phone?
I don't get an upgrade until January, so I don't plan on getting the new iPhone the day of its release. I'm not sure if that matters.
Thanks for the help!

  • I have some questions about the Zen Mic

I was wondering if the Creative Zen Micro has some of the same capabilities of the Apple Ipod. A lot of my friends have Ipods' and I know from them that you can actually plug the Ipod into a stereo and it will play songs. Can the Zen Micro do that? do you know of any connections needed? Also, i know the Ipod can get a connection which allows it to tune into blank radio stations. With this a person can get onto the same radio station through the Mp3 player and play their music, which allows them to play their Mp3 player in their cars or again on a stereo. Is there any way I can play my Zen Micro in my car without getting sperate speakers? Please help!
    Thank you

You can connect to a home stereo using a stereo miniplug (your headphone connector) to RCA adapter. these are available at any electronics store. you plug the 2 rca plugs into an auxiliary input on your receicver. to play in your car, you can use an fm transmitter. check out my post on accessories, it talks about one i didnt like and the one i replaced it with...
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=2079
there is nothing special about ipods, they cant do anything that a creative player cant. in fact, some would argue that creative's do more! but connectivity to any type of stereo system is uni'versal

  • I have some questions about the ios 7.1 security -what if they replace the sim ?

i khnow now that with the new ios 7 no one ever can format the iphone with itunes if the find my iphone is on in the iphone
    but
1-what if they remove the sim and put a new sim?
can i still be able to track it with icloud and send messages to it and play sound and lock it with a passcode even if they remove the sim
2-what if they using an old version of itunes will they be able to format it as new iphone?
please answer each question both of them
i have iphone 4s with the latest ios 7.1

1-what if they remove the sim and put a new sim?
can i still be able to track it with icloud and send messages to it and play sound and lock it with a passcode even if they remove the sim
As I said, if there is a passcode in place they do not know, you will be able to track down the device, irrespective the SIM card they are using. By the way, if the device is locked, they should first unlock it in order to make their SIM work, calling the carrier and giving all your personal data they do not have.
On the other hand, if the phone is unlocked and does not have any passcode, then yes, they will be able to use any SIM with it and turn off any tracking software.
2-what if they using an old version of itunes will they be able to format it as new iphone?
Same as in previous: if they have the iPhone without any lock then yes, they will be able to restore it as a new phone.
Follow all the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818 in order to turn on Activation Lock and make more difficult for them to restore your phone without permission.

  • I have a question regarding the iPod Touch and iPhone batteries.

    Hello,
I started asking myself questions lately about my iPod Touch 5th generation battery. A few months ago, when a friend of mine asked me to plug her iPhone 5S in the wall (the battery depleted), I noticed that her phone was at 1% of battery power. Then I compared my iPod Touch battery with her phone's battery, and discovered that my iPod Touch stops working when the battery is close to 10% battery power. This is concerning to me because I feel like I only have about 85-90% of battery power available when I use my iPod Touch, while my friend has over 99% of battery available. It's a huge gap, I can't use this 10% that I wish i had. I'm wondering why iPods can't stop functioning when the battery is close to 1% instead of 10%? Can you imagine not being able to use 10% of your battery! And it was like this since iOS 6.1.3. My iPod Touch would shut down automatically when the battery would be depleted, but in reality, it still had 10, maybe 15% left. Why is that?
    Thank you.

Hey Lil'fighter, First, stop comparing an iPod with an iPhone. They may look a like on the outside, share the same iOS, and some of the components, but that is as far as it goes! The biggest reason your friends iPhone out last the iPod is a bigger battery, greater capacity. Secondly, the phone is configured a bit differently and uses power a little more effectively. Third, it is impossible to completely drain the battery in either device. A safety circuit prevents you from doing that. With Li-ion batteries if you completely drain one, it will de-ionize and become useless; never charge again. I suspect the threshold is set higher for an iPod then on an iPhone. But if you feel your iPod is not performing as it should, and a reset or restore does not improve function, then by all means take it to Apple and have it evaluated. Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • Hey i have a question regarding the apple ipod and return which hopefully--

    could be easily answered.'
Hey my name is Isaac. I am an earlier buyer of the Ipod got it a week or two into sales. When i got my ipod at first it would freeze way too often. My case is to plead for another one although it wasn't successfull,(apple service) well anyway so my screen is pretty bad right now so, scratches are horrible. the case which the ipod came with didn't work, so it's getting hard for me to watch anything on the video, plus there's a couple of dead pixels. So the problem is do you think they'll send me another one, for retutrn of course
ps-heard ther tardin in nanos which are scratched so this is a big question,
thanks so much a reply is greatly appreciated,
    thanks again

  • Some questions about the integration between BIEE and EBS

    Hi, dear,
I'm a new bie of BIEE. In these days, have a look about BIEE architecture and the BIEE components. In the next project, there are some work about BIEE development based on EBS application. I have some questions about the integration :
    1) generally, is the BIEE database and application server decentralized with EBS database and application? Both BIEE 10g and 11g version can be integrated with EBS R12?
    2) In BIEE administrator tool, the first step is to create physical tables. if the source appliation is EBS, is it still needed to create the physical tables?
    3) if the physical tables creation is needed, how to complete the data transfer from the EBS source tables to BIEE physical tables? which ETL tool is prefer for most developers? warehouse builder or Oracle Data Integration?
    4) During data transfer phase, if there are many many large volume data needs to transfer, how to keep the completeness? for example, it needs to transfer 1 million rows from source database to BIEE physical tables, when 50%is completed, the users try to open the BIEE report, can they see the new 50% data on the reports? is there some transaction control in ETL phase?
could anyone give some guide for me? I'm very appreciated if you can also give any other information.
    Thanks in advance.

    1) generally, is the BIEE database and application server decentralized with EBS database and application? Both BIEE 10g and 11g version can be integrated with EBS R12?You, shud consider OBI Application here which uses OBIEE as a reporting tool with different pre-built modules. Both 10g & 11g comes with different versions of BI apps which supports sources like Siebel CRM, EBS, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards etc..
    2) In BIEE administrator tool, the first step is to create physical tables. if the source appliation is EBS, is it still needed to create the physical tables? Its independent of any soure. This is OBIEE modeling to create RPD with all the layers. If you build it from scratch then you will require to create all the layers else if BI Apps is used then you will get pre-built RPD along with other pre-built components.
    3) if the physical tables creation is needed, how to complete the data transfer from the EBS source tables to BIEE physical tables? which ETL tool is prefer for most developers? warehouse builder or Oracle Data Integration?BI apps comes with pre-built ETL mapping to use with the tools majorly with Informatica. Only BI Apps 7.9.5.2 comes with ODI but oracle has plans to have only ODI for any further releases.
    4) During data transfer phase, if there are many many large volume data needs to transfer, how to keep the completeness? for example, it needs to transfer 1 million rows from source database to BIEE physical tables, when 50%is completed, the users try to open the BIEE report, can they see the new 50% data on the reports? is there some transaction control in ETL phase?User will still see old data because its good to turn on Cache and purge it after every load.

  • Some questions on the Sleek

Hey there. I have some questions regarding the Zen Sleek, since I may get one to replace my Zen Xtra.
First of all, how much does it cost to have the battery replaced? I've heard/read that you cannot do it yourself (which irks me to know end), but I haven't found anywhere what it would cost to have it sent in once the battery is dead.
Second, does the unit scratch easily? I don't want to buy an ugly, bulky case for it (since that's all that seems to be out there for anything that's not a Micro), but if the Sleek scratches as easily as the iPod, I may be forced to.
Thanks in advance for your help.

cera wrote:Thanks SSR, I'll have to look into the battery replacement program. I've read up on the CreativeCare protection plan, and it SEEMS that the battery would be covered under it. I'll have to e-mail or call and check.
I know the battery is covered under warranty, but it certainly shouldn't die ordinarily during that period.
I've left the screen protecting sheet on my Zen Xtra, and it's in great shape, so unless it becomes obnoxious, I think I'll end up leaving it on the Sleek as well. I may look into buying a case, or possibly just making my own.
There are some threads on cases for the Sleek so it's worth searching back. Creative often fail to launch a case as an accessory, or certainly to launch one at the same time as the player is released. This is a great shame, aside from not bundling a good case with the player, as it keeps the player looking good and may well end up making it last longer.
This is completely off topic, but I just realized that you wrote/host that excellent Donnie Darko FAQ. It helped me a lot when I first saw the movie and tried to figure it out.
    Glad it helped

  • Clean installing Lion- have some questions.

I'm gonna clean install Lion on my macbook pro and have some questions regarding the same...
should I update to 10.7.2 and then clean install or will i have to update again anyway after a clean install?
is it true that downloading mac app store apps again from the app's page reincurrs the charges?
any best/worst practices i should consider while reinstalling Lion? I'm gonna perform a clean install.
most important... how do i initiate a clean install?!
Thanks for your time, in advance.
    Neerav

Thank you, that definitely suggests that it isn't actually doing anything useful!
I switched it off, cleared the PRAM and re-formatted the drive unencrypted (I found the option, it was in the dropdown for filesystem).
That appears to have been the issue, as the download and install immediately identified the disc name, which it wasn't doing before. Guess it was having an issue with my encrypted drive. I guess it's handy I'm not a secret agent or an political dissident I shall run unencrypted...

  • Apple Reuse and Recycling Program

I'm not sure where this should live. Its not a question more of a warning.
I recently took advantage of the Apple Reuse and Recycle Program in the UK to recycle three iPhones and obtain some vouchers in return. The Apple Partner for this service in the UK is 'BrightStar'. I used the on-line website and within days the return packs from BrightStar arrived. Enclosed was a flatpack box and a returns label. I packaged up the iPhones as instructed by BrightStar's own documentation, affixed the postage label and took the three packets to the Post Office, to be sure I obtained a 'Certificate of Posting' from the clerk.
Within a couple of days, emails started to arrive saying that the iPhones had been received by BrightStar, however only for two and not three. A day passed and more emails arrived with the Money off Vouchers for the two iPhones but not the third. I left it a day and contacted them via email and received the reply to say that they had not received the third iPhone. Ok.. its got lost.
So I then ask BrightStar, what now happens? Did they have insurance to cover the loss in the postage that they had arranged? No.. they don't pay for any kind of insurance in the postage that they themselves arrange. BrightStar then informed me that it is up to the customer to take out extra insurance or arrange 'Special Delivery' when they take the packages to the Post Office. However, this is not stated in the packaging instructions. So foolishly I have assumed that their pre-paid postage included insurance for the items.
So no iPhone, no voucher . I know its not Apples fault but what really annoys me is the attitude of BrightStar, their Recycling Partner, basically washing their hands of the whole affair, even though they had arranged all of the postage and packaging. Apple really do need to have a word with these people, I expect Apples Partners to be of the same standard as the Apple Organisation.
So people be warned. If you use BrightStar's service make sure you insure your package when you take your pre-paid packet to the Post Office, otherwise if it gets lost, you like me will be out of pocket.
I don't know who to take this up with within Apple, I can find any kind of contact for this kind of issue.

You might try contacting the Customer Support folks and see if they can give you a number for customer relations: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232
In the US, the user has the option of taking the devices to an Apple store where the transaction is handled by the Apple staff, sounds like a significantly better option.  But, thanks for the warning about buyer-beware - the need to protect yourself anytime a valuable device is sent through the post or any shipping organization.

  • Newbie, i have some question

i'm starting a work and i have some question.
do i have any advantage in storing procedures and functions in my database?
    what happen if i do the command : grant create any view to user_xpto;
this is some really dum question but if you can help me i appreciate. before starting to work i realy want to undertand this. i'm doing this in oracle 9i and i am programing in pl/sql developer.

    Hi Ricardo,
I don't think you've picked the right forum for your question, but I'll try and answer it anyway ;)
Yes there are huge advantages to storing your procedures and functions in the database. Note however that I would suggest you really use packages rather than standalone procedures and functions. The main reason for this is that you won't have the nightmare (that most of us encounter at some time o r other) of broken dependencies.
For me, the database is the place to store the logic that affects my data. If you have a routine that you use to create a customer (for example)...if you store that routine in the database (in a package) then ANY client application (Forms, C, Delphi, HTMLDB etc) will be able to call that routine. If however you coded that routine into your client app then you would not be able to reuse it and you would end up having to implement it in each client application. If you then have to change that routine then you would have to change it in multiple client applications as opposed to a single routine if you held it in the database.
The other big big BIG reason to put your code in the database, is that it will be far more efficient to put your code in the database and to make use of bind variables (etc) than to code it outside of the database.
There can be exceptions to this rule, for example if you have an incredible complex calculation that could be written faster in C then it could make sense to code the logic externally...however those cases are few and far between (in my opinion).
There are two groups of Database users in my opinion...
    1) Those who use the database only store and retrieve data, they do all their logic in their client apps...don't believe in constraints, believe that PL/SQL isn't a real language etc....
    2) The ones with the smile on their faces....
As for your question about "grant create any view"....ummm it will allow the user_xpto to create any view....it's quite "dangerous"...they could replace another users view...do you really want them to be able to do that?

  • I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac Pro

I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac pro (early 2009).
These questions might seem stupid to many of you, but, as my last, in fact my one and only, computer before the Mac Pro was a IICX/4/80 running System 7.5, I am a complete novice regarding this particular matter.
A few days ago I installed a WD3000HLFS VelociRaptor 300GB in bay 1, and moved the original 640GB HD to bay 2. I now have 2 bootable internal drives, and currently I am using the VR300 as my startup disk. Instead of cloning from the original drive, I have reinstalled the Mac OS, and all my applications & software onto the VR300. Everything is backed up onto a WD SE II 2TB external drive, using Time Machine. The original 640GB has an eDrive partition, which was created some time ago using TechTool Pro 5.
The system will be used primarily for photo editing, digital imaging, and to produce colour prints up to A2 size. Some of the image files, from scanned imports of film negatives & transparencies, will be 40MB or larger. Next year I hope to buy a high resolution full frame digital SLR, which will also generate large files.
Currently I am using Apple's bundled iPhoto, Aperture 2, Photoshop Elements 8, Silverfast Ai, ColorMunki Photo, EZcolor and other applications/software. I will also be using Photoshop CS5, when it becomes available, and I will probably change over to Lightroom 3, which is currently in Beta, because I have had problems with Aperture, which, until recent upgrades (HD, RAM & graphics card) to my system, would not even load images for print. All I had was a blank preview page, and a constant, frozen "loading" message - the symbol underneath remained static, instead of revolving!
It is now possible to print images from within Aperture 2, but I am not happy with the colour fidelity, whereas it is possible to produce excellent, natural colour prints using its "minnow" sibling, iPhoto!
My intention is to buy another 3 VR300s to form a 4 drive Raid 0 array for optimum performance, and to store the original 640GB drive as an emergency bootable back-up. I would have ordered the additional VR300s already, but for the fact that there appears to have been a run on them, and currently they are out of stock at all, but the more expensive, UK resellers.
I should be most grateful to receive advice regarding the following questions:
    QUESTION 1:
I have had a look at the RAID setting up facility in Disk Utility and it states: "To create a RAID set, drag disks or partitions into the list below".
If I install another 3 VR300s, can I drag all 4 of them into the "list below" box, without any risk of losing everything I have already installed on the existing VR300?
Or would I have to reinstall the OS, applications and software again?
I mention this, because one of the applications, Personal accountz, has a label on its CD wallet stating that the Licence Key can only be used once, and I have already used it when I installed it on the existing VR300.
    QUESTION 2:
I understand that the failure of just one drive will result in all the data in a Raid 0 array being lost.
Does this mean that I would not be able to boot up from the 4 drive array in that scenario?
Even so, it would be worth the risk to gain the optimum performance provide by Raid 0 over the other RAID setup options, and, in addition to the SE II, I will probably back up all my image files onto a portable drive as an additional precaution.
    QUESTION 3:
Is it possible to create an eDrive partition, using TechTool Pro 5, on the VR300 in bay !?
Or would this not be of any use anyway, in the event of a single drive failure?
    QUESTION 4:
Would there be a significant increase in performance using a 4 x VR300 drive RAID 0 array, compared to only 2 or 3 drives?
    QUESTION 5:
If I used a 3 x VR300 RAID 0 array, and installed either a cloned VR300 or the original 640GB HD in bay 4, and I left the Startup Disk in System Preferences unlocked, would the system boot up automatically from the 4th. drive in the event of a single drive failure in the 3 drive RAID 0 array which had been selected for startup?
Apologies if these seem stupid questions, but I am trying to determine the best option without foregoing optimum performance.

    Well said.
    Steps to set up RAID
Setting up a RAID array in Mac OS X is part of the installation process. This procedure assumes that you have already installed Mac OS 10.1 and the hard drive subsystem (two hard drives and a PCI controller card, for example) that RAID will be implemented on. Follow these steps:
    1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. When the disks appear in the pane on the left, select the disks you wish to be in the array and drag them to the disk panel.
    3. Choose Stripe or Mirror from the RAID Scheme pop-up menu.
    4. Name the RAID set.
    5. Choose a volume format. The size of the array will be automatically determined based on what you selected.
    6. Click Create.
Recovering from a hard drive failure on a mirrored array
    1. Open Disk Utility in (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. Click the RAID tab. If an issue has occurred, a dialog box will appear that describes it.
    3. If an issue with the disk is indicated, click Rebuild.
    4. If Rebuild does not work, shut down the computer and replace the damaged hard disk.
    5. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    6. Drag the icon of the new disk on top of that of the removed disk.
    7. Click Rebuild.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2559
    Drive A + B = VOLUME ONE
    Drive C + D = VOLUME TWO
What you put on those volumes is of course up to you and easy to do.
A system really only needs to be backed up "as needed" like before you add or update or install anything.
/Users can be backed up hourly, daily, weekly schedule
    Media files as needed.
    Things that hurt performance:
    Page outs
Spotlight - disable this for boot drive and 'scratch'
SCRATCH: Temporary space; erased between projects and steps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StandardRAIDlevels
(normally I'd link to Wikipedia but I can't load right now)
Disk drives are the slowest component, so tackling that has always made sense. Easy way to make a difference. More RAM only if it will be of value and used. Same with more/faster processors, or graphic card.

  • Does anyone use a LaCie external hard drive with their Mac using imovie '09?  I have some questions.

Does anyone use a LaCie external hard drive with their Mac using imovie '09?  I have some questions.

Are you actually having a problem with the new Lacie drive, or are you just asking is the Lacie drive somehow different from your old G-Drive?
From a connection standpoint, most Lacie desktop drives have both USB and FireWire connections, just like the G-Drives do.  You would connect and use it the same as a G-Drive.
Regarding capturing to the external HD, if you are using a camcorder that has FireWire (iLink) connection, it is not advisable to have an external FireWire HD connected to your Mac at the same time as your camcorder; there are often communication conflicts between the camcorder and the hard drive if they are connected at the same time.  The conflicts usually appear as either dropped frames or a complete freeze.   This is more common with Canon miniDV camcorders but I have also seen this behavior with Sony miniDV camcorders.  (The problem is the camcorder's FW implementation, not the hard drive.)  The workaround is to capture to your Mac's internal HD and later copy the captured video to your external HD.

  • I'm going to install Arch this weekend but I have some questions

Currently I use Linux Mint on my primary PC, but I've installed Arch on my older PC at my parents house.  I like it a lot and I think I want a distro that is rolling release and also that I build myself (as opposed to installing all of the bloat on Mint).  However, I do have some questions; Linux is pretty new to me (been using it since about November) so I don't know exactly how everything works.
    1)  How do I know what packages I have to have installed for building C/C++ programs?  I know in Ubuntu install gcc/g++ by itself doesn't get the job done, you need build-essential to get all of the libraries.  Also, what packages do I need for OpenGL and SDL?  I'm a CS major and I'm in an OpenGL class so I need to be able to compile OpenGL programs; SDL is for my own purposes, but I'd still like to have it.
    2)  I use Amarok to transfer songs to my iPod.  Amarok 1.48 and libgpod 0.6.0 are in the repos and I know both of those are compatible with my 6th gen.  However, I do have a question about transferring album art.  On Mint, Amarok transfers the album art as I transfer the album, but someone told me that Amarok doesn't do that by default; there must have been a setting changed somewhere to do that.  I looked through Amarok's options and didn't see anything like that... anyone know if I can do that in Arch, and how?  There's no real information about Amarok in the wiki.
    3)  I'm going to use Gnome environment but some KDE apps (like Amarok).  Will there be any problems with that that I should know about in advance?
I'll probably have some more questions once I actually install Arch, but that will do for now   Those are the important ones.

    1) You know by seeing its dependencies on pacman or by the developer documentation. Unlike other distros, you don't need to install dev packages. Example: You have gcc and all the basic gnu tools installed, and you want to compile a program that is not in a arch linux package yet (if theres a package, you can build it using abs / makepkg and pacman will handle the dependencies) and requires, for example, a library called "xyz", you only need to download "xyz" from pacman, and all the dev stuff will come together (like header and etc).
    I hope it helps.

  • Picked up a B/W.. have some questions

Hey guys. I picked up a B/W yesterday for a nice spare computer and i have some questions.
    1. The former owner upgraded to 10.3 but the computer is lacking serious speed. I know it's not going to be fast but i have a feeling the Memory and video card is holding it back. It only has 256 megs of ram and i would like to add some more. What the max amount i can add? I heard 1GB but is it possible to do more? THe video card is the original and seriously *****. Whats a great card everyone runs? I was looking at the new HD series on new egg but i think it's designed for a pc. Will it work?
Also.. What's the best place to buy pieces for this mac? Any good online retailers? Thanks again
    Ron

Before you even think about investing in this computer you might want to check if it is a Rev. 1 or Rev. 2 model. I can't tell you how because I have never laid hands on a BW but apparently the Rev. 1 starts behaving really erratically when you try to upgrade things like the hard drive, and you may quickly tire of a tiny hard drive.
As for parts, there's the old standby www.mac-sales.com but once you start buying new upgrades for that computer you will quickly outstrip just buying a used G4 instead. LowEndMac Google groups is a good place for aged machines, and of course there's e-bay. There's also a variety of used Mac and parts retailers, though I think a BW is even outside their interest range now since nobody wants to pay for parts for a G3 what they have to charge to stay in business.
