I have SPDIF passthrough in Vista x

After trying to solve this for quite a while I finally found a way to get SPDIF passthrough in Vista x64. Apparently it's been working all the time, the trick is you need to use a 64bit player. Vista is by default using the 32bit version of WMP found in C:\Program Files(86)\, but if you go to C:\Program Files\ you will find the 64bit version of WMP.
Be aware that the 64bit version of WMP requires 64bit codecs and a 64bit codec pack is very likely to interfere with the audio processing.
If you are not getting SPDIF passthrough after installing a codec pack, make sure your audio decoder is set to "MPA Decoder Filter". If you still don't have SPDIF passthrough, put in a DVD and go to Tools --> Options --> DVD --> Advanced and set your output to SPDIF. I got a BSOD while trying to apply SPDIF output to a movie that hadn't been stopped, so I recommend you stop the movie before changing the output.
I hope this will work for you, as it did for me.

Cool!

  • SPDIF passthrough with Audigy SE and Digital I/O Car

Does anyone have this working or know if its possible with Vista 32bit's?Comparing my pc (built-in soundcard) with my new PC that has the Audigy, it looks like there are some tabs missing in Control Panel in the Playback->Digital Output Device screen, but I'm not sure if thats relevant or not. Maybe its possible to set SPDIF passthrough somewhere else?

Ok, well...can anyone tell me, for certain, which cards work with SPDIF passthrough in Vista? I really need this working, and if I have to buy another card, that would suck, but I need it for my htpc.

  • Is true SPDIF Passthrough possible with X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty P

I recently installed my X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro sound card and for the life of me I can't find where I can turn on SPDIF passthrough.
I know about the Dolby Digital Li've, and that's not what I want, I want just the simple optical SPDIF passthrough.
I also don't believe the option for Play Stereo Mix using Digital Output is the same either. Not looking for a stereo mix, just passthrough.
Can anyone help me out here?

I have the same card and I was able to figure how to do the real optical SPDIF passthrough in Vista X64.
First unselect the Dolby Digital Li've if you have that option on.
Second, I unchecked the stereo mixing feature in the creative volume panel.
Finally, you have to select the SPDIF Out Device as the default playback device in the windows sound manager (just right click in the windows speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices, NOT in the creative volume panel. There you can check with some tests if the Dolby and DTS sound is passing through the optical SPDIF correctly.
For Dolby Prologic II (PS2 emulator) I had to manually select to decode in that format to work (in my home theater options).
I have tested my method with a DVD Movie and it worked perfectly!, my external receiver detects de Dolby Digital signal from the movie automatically.

  • SPDIF passthrough availibility in future for vista

    Hello,

Remember, unless there is an ACTIVE protected stream playing, like protected Blue Ray or HD Dvd, windows locks down nothing. It's not until there is an acti've stream running, that is protected and specifies that that in order to run this stream, you must close down amongst other things SPDIF, you are able to use SPDIF amongst others just fine.
    OK. Thanks for the info.

  • Audigy2zs spdif out in Vista Ultimate32

Hello All, I'm at my witts end here! I'm trying to get spdif out in vista by using the same configuration from XPP, but its no go.
I dl the Audigy2zs vista drivers from creatives web site and installed them in my newbuild with no problem.
In XP to get Spdif out:
Speakers setting in xp: = sound 5. + digital out
Creative audio console: = spdif passthru to external decoder =? Logitech 5. THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra: sound = Spdif
    THX Console = 5.
But Vista will not produce bitstreamed compressed sound out like XPP.
    In Vista Sound: Spdif
Creative audio console = spdif passthru to external decoder =? Logitech 5. THX, DTS decoder/Speakers
PowerDVD 9 Ultra sound: = Spdif
But all I get is static. Is there something I'm missing? am I configuring this right?
    HELP!!!
    regards,
    Asamp

    Hi asamp
It sounds?OK about your setup. what I shall do is just give you few suggestions to double check with.
    1. First make sure your optical/coaxial cable works fine and also your z-5500's control pod; if it is fine...
    2. Check whether you have selected Dolby Digital li've/DTS connect under the "Encoder" tab of your Creative Audio Console; if it is selected de select it.
    3. Check whether you selected 'spdif passthrough' under the decoder tab of Creative Audio Conole. If it is not, select it.
    4. Go to' Control Panel' ---- 'Sound'----Select SPDIF Creative Audigy-----Select 'Properties' tab------ select 'Levels' tab and check whether the sound level is set on very low (say?0) (its a 0-00 scale) if it is set in low please move it to a higher value (80/90/00).
After all these measures still your problem persist; go to 'control panel' select 'sound' select 'SPDIF Audigy 2' and set it as default; restart windows and try a DVD.
Try these and let me know whether it work or not
    GOOD LUCK

  • Trouble with SPDIF Passthrough and the Audig

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 from Dell and am trying to connect it to Logitech Z-680 speakers. I want to use digital surround sound. I found the instructions on how to do this on Logitech's site. However, I have a problem.
Step 2 states to go to Audio HQ, select 'Device Controls' and then select the 'decoder tab'. My Device Controls does not have a 'decoder tab' nor does it have a 'SPDIF Passthrough' option that I can find. Where do I find the SPDIF Passthrough option?
I have updated all of my drivers and Creative software as far as I can tell. In the Device Controls help it states: "Digital Input Settings is available only if you are using the Optical Digital I/O card or Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Dri've." Does this mean my Audigy 2 from Dell does not support optical out?!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Janefoe,
Since this card is OEM I would suggest contacting Dell at this time. You can then find out from them if this feature was included with this card and if so how to enable or disable SPDIF Passthrough.

  • Audigy ZS MCE 2005 spdif passthrough to deco

Hi, I've read every post I can find with anything to do with spdif passthrough and I'm not getting anywhere.
    My setup:
IBM Thinkcentre PC with XP MCE 2005
    Audigy ZS
    Denon AVR-906 DD/DTS capable decoder
    Power DVD
The audigy is connected by a 3.5m to mono rca cable to the Denon's coax digital in.
The Decoder tab in Audio Console is set to SPDIF Passthrough.
Media Center and Power DVD are both set to SPDIF.
I understand that I will only get DTS and DD from a source which has it, the DVDs I am testing with have.
My Denon decoder does detect a digital signal, but not DD or DTS. It works fine with other sources, so I believe that the DD/DTS signal is not being passed to the decoder. The result is the same with Media Center and PowerDVD.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Embarassed to say it was a setting on my decoder... Oh well. At least it works now

  • X-Fi Notebook Audio SPDIF passthrough.

&. Hi there, I have been trying to figure out on how to use optical out for SPDIF passthrough. Was wondering in using my laptop as a media center for the kids and wanna use the SPDIF passthrough option in XBMC (DD & DTS on my AMP). But, it doesn?t seem to work at all. I am running on XP. I used to be running on Windows 7 and that didn?t work either.
Thx. and yes I have run autoupdate and everything is up to date. And no, I don?t see anywhere SPDIF for playback, only SPDIF-in.

Ok im starting to understand now , only problem i have now is i have a converter (converts optical digital signal to rca digital signal) that is not working atm, so im able to connect the optical out to the rca in of my receiver. Otherwise im all set and ready to test it out . The moment i get AC3 5. out of it'si'll post it here. :smileyvery-happy:?Thx alot for the help justaguy

  • Audigy 2 SPDIF Passthrough trou

Well, I've been working on this one for about two days straight and I can't figure it out. When I play any AC3 signal with SPDIF passthrough, the audio skips or is choppy, dropping about 4 times per second. The video is fine.
I have an Audigy 2 Platinum card and Logitech Z680 speakers. I have the optical out of the Audigy's li've dri've connected to the Z680 receiver. I've also tried the coax out to the coax on the Z680 with the same effect. The Z680 recognizes the Dolby Digital signal, and displays that status on it's lcd screen. I've tried playing a dvd through WinDVD and an avi file with AC3 audio using AC3Filter, both with the same effect. I also tried playing a dvd through my PS2 connected to the Z680s with the same optical cable, and the Z680 got the Dolby Digital signal and it played fine.
I tried moving my card to a different PCI slot. I tried uninstalling all Creative software and drivers, reinstalling from the original Audigy2 cd. At this point, I tried to get it to work with the original drivers. I went into AudioHQ and set it to "SPDIF passthrough". Then my speakers didn't get the digital signal, and I didn't have any audio at all. When I switched it back to "Dolby Digital decode", the audio came back, but obivously the speakers didn't get the digital signal. So then I updated my driver to the most recent ones again, and now I have the same problem as before, choppy audio.
The thing that I find odd is that it seems that if I play back the same portion of the video, it seems to be skipping in the same spots, but it is pretty frequent so that might be incorrect. It really sounds like the computer doesn't have the necessary equipment to process the audio, which doesn't make sense because ) it's worked before and 2)I would think that spdif passthrough would actually require less processing, because the signal isn't decoded.
    What should I do?

Woohoo, I've made backward progress. So I uninstalled the card as completely as possible. I took the card out of the machine, uninstalled the drivers and applications, and went through the registry and deleted any and all keys related to the sound card. Then I put the card back in, reinstalled the drivers, and installed the most recent update. Now I've got more than just choppy audio, the receiver constantly drops the signal. Sometimes the sound comes through (for less than a second), and sometimes I just get noise, but most of the time it's silent.
As it is, I've got my onboard digital sound card working fine. It passes the digital signal through to the receiver, which decodes it and plays it perfectly. But the Creative card should work, I spent a lot of money for it to work. This is all really frustrating.

  • X-Fi: cannot get multi-channel sound or SPDIF passthrough

I've owned an X-Fi XtremeMusic since it first came out, and have been running it with a MCE2005 system. I've had it hooked up to a home theater receiver via SPDIF and 5. analog, but have only had stereo speakers until today. So, right now I'm trying to get multi-channel sound to work. I'm using the latest drivers (have also tried the original drivers) and have all Microsoft patches applied.
First, I cannot seem to get it out of stereo mode. Using the analog outputs to the 5. analog input on my receiver and setting the X-Fi to 5. speakers refuses to produce sound from anything except front left/right. I've used the Speaker Connection Wizard, the THX Console, the Speaker & Headphone console... and no matter what speaker icon I click on the sound comes out of the front left or right as if it is downmixing. I've also tried 4.0, 6. and 7. modes - no improvement. Also, multi-channel sound does not work in MCE setup, games, etc.
Quite by accident I discovered that if I enable CMSS I can get *some* sort of sound from the rear speakers, but only in the sense of an effect. Also, with CMSS enabled, when testing the front center I get the word "front" out of the left/right speakers which then fades out before "center". If I test it again I get nothing (except a slight effect from the rear).
Finally, I cannot get the SPDIF passthrough to work (it DOES work just fine passing out stereo 48khz sound). I've enabled SPDIF on the flexi-jack, I've set Dolby Digital and DTS to "external decoder required", and NONE of my applications present me with an option to use the SPDIF. This includes MCE, VLC and the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. Basically it seems that they can't see that there is a SPDIF on the system to use.
Anyone else experienced this? I've spent 5 hours testing everything I can think of and trying different combinations of settings and I am completely at a loss!

Well, I guess I'll answer my own problem in the hopes that it might help someone else.
It seems that hour 8 of frustrated troubleshooting turned up the cure: all of this boils down to Logitech's stupid Quickcam Fusion drivers. With Logitech's "AEC" echo cancellation mode enabled for the built-in microphone, their drivers automatically turn audio acceleration down to second from the bottom. This results in the X-Fi performing nearly no hardware processing (later testing with DXDiag also said I had no hardware buffer). This results in no multi-channel audio, and no SPDIF passthrough.
There are a couple of solutions...
) Disable "AEC" mode from the Logitech Quickcam control panel applet's Audio tab (and reboot). This worked for me.
    2) If this doesn't work, go into the Device Manager and disable the Quickcam's microphone (and reboot). This worked for me, but then I tried # which also worked and still let me use the microphone.
    3) Logitech's site (which mentions this problem/solution but only in the context of it causing BSOD crashes, not with it messing up multi-channel sound cards) mentions renaming one of their Audio directories to disable the microphone, although I don't see why this would be better than #2 (see http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=4066 for more).
    4) Unplug the camera.
So, I'm back in business - or rather, I'm only NOW in business!
Interesting that the Creative diagnostics utility turned up anything amiss. It claimed that everything was hunky dory, when the card was obviously in a mode where it could not possibly work correctly.

  • No SPDIF passthrough when Dolby Digital Live is enabled?

    Hello,
I have SB Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z-5500 speakers connected digitally and I am using Win XP SP3.
I bought Dolby Digital Li've Pack and I have a problem with not getting SPDIF Passthrough for DTS audio.
Before I enabled DDL, when I played back content with DTS-encoded audio, audio was passed through SPDIF to the decoder in Logitech speakers and the DTS logo would appear on the display of Z-5500 console. And decoding chain from AC3Filter would look like this:
    Decoding chain:
    (DTS - 48000) -> Spdifer -> (SPDIF 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Dejitter -> (SPDIF 3/2. (5.) 48000)
And there is also information: "SPDIF status: SPDIF passthrough"
This is straightforward - DTS audio stream goes to SPDIF output.
Of course this would only work if I chose SPDIF Passthrough option in Decoder tab of Audio console.
But after I enabled Dolby Digital Li've and played back DTS stream, the DTS logo would no longer appear on the console, which meant that the SPDIF passthrough was not working, despite the fact that it was still enabled in the drivers. For contrast, the Decoding chain for DTS after I turned on DDL looks like this:
    (DTS - 48000) -> Decoder -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Processor -> (PCM24 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Dejitter -> (PCM24 3/2. (5.) 48000)
And there is info: "SPDIF status: Disabled (SPDIF output is not supported)" and info of what is happening under the "processor" stage
    Processor:
    (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Input levels -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Equalizer -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> SRC -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Mixer -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Bass redirection -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Dither -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> AGC -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Delay -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Spectrum -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Output levels -> (Linear PCM 3/2. (5.) 48000) -> Linear->PCM converter -> (PCM24 3/2. (5.) 48000)
Much, much more steps along the way, which probably means inferior quality and also is in disregard of the SPDIF Passthrough that I had enabled.
Same thing happens when you play "nati've" Dolby Digital stream - instead of being passed through SPDIF to external decoder it is somehow "hijacked" by Dolby Digital Li've and needlessly tampered with.
My question is - how can this be disabled. I understand benefits of Dolby Digital Li've (that's why I bought it) but they stop being benefits when they interfere with legitimate DTS audio which should not be "down-decoded" into Dolby Digita - it should be passed through to the Decoder.
Not to mention that DTS Connect is not supported in Windows XP. "Real" digital DD and DTS streams should? be passed through untoched, and ony converted audio (mp3s, games, etc) should be decoded into DD. Otherwise there's degradation of quality.
The only "benefit" I noticed is that DDL is enabled, the sound is noticably louder, but for increasing loudness I have my volume knob on Z-5500 so I dont need it.
Does that mean that every time I want to listen something nati'vely encoded in DTS od DD I should disable Dolby Digital Li've? I hope there is some other solution to this.

Creative just admitted it is a bug - this is information from the "what was fixed" in the latest version of Creative Console Launcher:
"Unable to select the external decoder option automatically while Dolby Digital Li've or DTS Connect is enabled in the encoder settings."
Will this ever be fixed for Audigy software?

Have got a Windows Vista basic and had run a a trial version of LR4 on it - just purchased an LR5 without checking out the complete system requirements. Can I get a complete download of LR4 so that the money I've spent is not wasted. I am not interested in upgrading to Windows 7 currently.

There are still retail packs of LR 4 to be found out there - for example, on EBay. It's just important to be careful whether it's a full version, an upgrade, or a student + teacher version. And to be certain it's genuine, and has a serial number which has never been activated before. The serial number that you get with that, should work with any 4.x version of LR, on either MacOS or Windows. And it will almost certainly be heavily discounted compared with the previous price direct from Adobe.
Of course the other way is to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1, which should also be available discounted, and thus eke out the life of an older PC (I personally would not go to Win8 in such a case). Maybe pick up some RAM also, if that's a problem, provided you can do so cheaply (since that will be simply thrown away in due course, when you get a newer PC),
Using LR4 instead of LR5 you do miss out on a few nice features, as well as potentially the Raw support and lens profiles for more recent camera equipment.
LR 4 is obsolete as far as Adobe is concerned. They will not sell a Serial Number for it.
