Have you tried booting from the Recovery HD to reinstall Lion?
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
You will need the Apple ID and password used to purchase Lion. If you have not purchased Lion, then you will need to purchase the Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard then update it to 10.6.8 to access the App Store where you can purchase and download Lion under your own Apple ID. Or you can purchase the Apple USB Lion installer flash drive at any local Apple retailer or the Online Store.

When I try to apply the update a screen pops up which continuously scrolls "connecting to server"; it never gets out. (Firefox Yahoo 1.8)

I clicked on Help about Firefox. It immediately displays Firefox Yahoo edition 1.8 and begins downloading a 2.8mb file and then displays an update button.
When you click on the update button another window opens up which says "we strongly recommend applying the update as soon as possible" It displays a "back", "next" and "cancel" button.
When I click on the "next" button it begins displaying "connecting to server" with bars scrolling across the screen. The problem is that it just sits there doing the scrolling and never finishes anything.

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

I have Numbers 2.3 installed on my IMac and have created several spreadsheets when I try to open the latest one I get a message "You need a newer version to open this spreadsheet. Do have to buy the new one and will it work with my OS - 10.8.5?

If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

On my Mac, in Documents folders A-G have gone missing. When I try to access the backup in time machine, it won't let me go back at all. This is a major problem and I have no idea what happened or how to fix it!

All folders up to "H" have gone missing and for some reason when I go into Time Machine, I'm not able to access any of the backups. It won't let me select any of the screens behind the current one and when I click on the right hand side on any of the dates listed, nothing happens. I really need to get this fixed. Any help????

I don't know what will help at this point. You should never update a system that has problems, unless you're absolutely sure that the problems are caused by a bug that is fixed in the update. With your backups in an uncertain state, you should not update or do anything else except start a new backup.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you install the new iWork version, the old iWork version is kept, so it looks like you are opening your old version.
To fix this, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version to the Dock, so you can access to it quickly. Open all documents from this version. I don't recommend you to delete the old Numbers version in case you need it.

The "not recognized for on-line use" error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs. Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12. A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected. Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\.
Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete the following files:
CD Info.cidb
com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
If this one didn't work:
Exit iTunes
Check the following folders:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:

In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes

If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself. Thank you for responding. Nothing actually worked! After reading the posts online, I called Apple. They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades. The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did! But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

Numbers (v. 3.5.2) is freezing when I try to print the second sheet of my spreadsheet

I have a spreadsheet that I am trying to print. I print the first sheet fine but when I try to print the second sheet, even though I can see the document and print dialogue it won't let me click on anything, click done to exit printing or do anything in the document I made.
Even when I restart my computer, it just opens the spreadsheet up to the print dialogue and it is frozen. Any help?
