I have the latest Firefox, but I cannot open any sites from the browser. It just hangs. It used to be my favorite browser. Now I can't use it at all.

When I open the browser and ask for a Bookmarked site that I have used in the past, it will not open. The symbol just whirls and whirls. I used to do my freelance work via Firefox, and now I can't even get into the site.

I am the original poster, and I got rid of CA Security Suite & and loaded the Avast! which has some great features even on the freeware. No more crashes or freezing & yes I think there is a problem with CA & Firefox, but am not sure what it is. CA was a big time hog. I also got rid of my ISP and installed a Intellinet Wireless G PCI Card & now am completely wireless on my PC. Faster by far than what I was paying $50/month for & I use my Windows Firewall.

Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
If you're already been there, done that, could be a third party app preventing Safari from accessing the web.

I have reset Firefox, but still cannot open Preferences.

I am running OS 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro and have been using Firefox for years as my primary browser. The crashes have been increasing over the last few months until now, Firefox crashes multiple times a day. I cannot get the Preferences to open from the File menu. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I am at a loss to figure out what to do next. All my other applications run fine. Firefox is running on other Macs in our house under newer operating systems, but this has become a severe problem.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems instead of using a reset.

I can log into my Comcast Xfinity email account but I cannot open any of the emails using Firefox - I can open them via IE

so I get to my list of emails and I click on them and the connecting circular icon does not swirl around but stays static and the email will not load. I was on with the Comcast rep for 20 minutes today. She changed my password etc but still no help with comcast but I can open on Internet Explorer. She suggested I delete the Firefox browser entirely and then reload it.

When using Preferences to change the email to Xfinity Lite you loose certain valuable features available in the full verfsiion. This may work for some but I enjoy attaching photos in some emails and having them show in he message boz along with a message. It's a shame that two multi-national companys can't get their act straight. Comcast blames Firefox, Firefox blames Concast. In the meantime users are forced to use Internet Explorer. I hate this kind of stupidity. Millions of consumers are inconvenienced. I suspect that Microsoft and Comcast are schemeing in this matter.

Usually when you uninstall/reinstall you are given the option to retain all your settings including add-ons. If you can't get started, though, I really can't help any further.
As a long shot you could try opening Firefox from your Start Menu or Programs folder. If that works, you should create a new Firefox icon. Drag your Firefox from the Start Menu to the Desktop(it doesn't actually move) and it will offer you the option of creating a desktop icon.
As a very long shot you could check the Properties of the Desktop icon and see if anything is out of place.
When you say it doesn't show up on the screen do you mean it doesn't open at all or it opens to a blank screen? Try pressing F11 if you get a blank screen - you could be in full screen mode.

FF 3.6.13 gives 500 Internal Server Error. Cannot open ANY site. Set to Auto Proxy. IE and Chrome working just fine.

I installed FF Beta 4 and it gave me 500 Internal server error at launch. This stood true for any website typed. The Network LAN settings are kept at "auto-detect". So i decided to go back to FF 3.6.13 - but that too gave me the same error ! So i basically cannot use/surf using FF at all. I have kept "auto-detect" proxy in IE and Chrome and are working fine. Also, FF is my Fav and have been using it without any errors prior to IE beta 4 installation. Please help me get back to FF :)

How do I set focus to the Browser so I can CmdKey-A and select all?

I've searched the shortcut list for about 10 minutes and cannot find a shortcut to shift focus to the browser (by default the right-side) preferably the lower film-strip/list pane where pressing Cmd-A selects all the photos.
Note, that if you select an album and hit Cmd-A it doesn't select all the photos in the album - if that worked I wouldn't need to set focus to the film-strip/list pane.
There's only 1 keyboard shortcut in the "Aperture 3 Keyboard Shortcuts" guide with the word "Focus", and it's not the one I need.

Put it this way.
1. Select an Album
2. Now, you want to select all photos in that album, hit Cmd-A
You can't do (2) until I manually click in the film-strip pane.
I want to hit 1 key, to put me in a position to select all photos immediately.
This would also allow me to navigate using the arrow keys.
I'm not sure I really understand how anyone would not need this.
You click an album, you want to navigate through them (without using the mouse) ... doesn't everyone need to do this somehow?
** I just realized while experimenting that hitting the arrow-key actually gives focus to the film-strip in a way that allows me to hit Cmd-A.
So it looks like the answer is to
1. Select the Album
2. Hit any arrow key (sometimes it already has focus, depending on what you were doing in this album last time, by the look of it)
3. Cmd-A now works.

I have downloaded photoshop elements but I cannot open it. I keep being asked for my Adobe sign in which I do and then the photoshop icon disappears from my side bar - I am on a mac. Please help!

You can also ask Apple to supply you with iWork '09 so you can access your work.

What happens when you try to update your apps ? All apps (and other content from the store) are tied to the account that downloaded them, so if you've created a new account then you won't be able to use that new account to download updates to apps that were downloaded by a different account.

WIFI shows connected but I cannot open any web page

My playbook connects to the wifi no problem, but when i try to use the brower to connect to a web page, it won't connect. It gives me the error message that i should try again.
It is as if it is not connected to the internet.
When i try APP world, it tries to connect but it tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
The internet works on when i try it on my computer and my blackberry bold.

Have you made sure you're holding down the Option key before you launch iPhoto and keep it down until the selction window appears.
Log into another user account on your Mac that's the same as the problem account and check to see if iPhoto will work OK there. If it does go back to your account and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
