I have the latest firmware... still having problems waking from sleep

First off, I want to say that I have the latest firmware updates and have had them for a few months: SMC version 1.4f12 and Boot ROM version MB11.0061.B03.
The problem I have most often when trying to wake is that the password dialog will come up, I'll enter my password, and then the MacBook will just go back to sleep! Sometimes the screen unlocks for a few seconds and then it goes back to sleep completely (i.e. backlight goes off), and sometimes the password dialog just goes away and I get the spinning beachball on a black screen indefinitely.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix? Am I NOT actually running the latest firmware?

Try resetting the SMC (I would also repair permissions before and after - in disk utility)

Hope this helps,

Do the new nokia n97's have the latest firmware running on them (V20) or do i have to upgrade it after it arrives?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That depends how long it has been since the phone left the factory? It is possible that some retailers have a stock that is very big, so that the phones that they sell right now have a firmware that is a few months old...
Where are you planning buying the phone?
By clicking the "Kudos!" or the "Solution?" button on the right you can say "Thank You" and you´ll show the author and others that the post is useful.

Updates are not possible by bluetooth, and currently not possible using a mac.

You say you have iOS 7. If you are a developer you have access to the private OS 7 developer's forum

  • Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feed

Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feedback. I had a powermac before this with the speakers and it worked fine. But the mac pro is having these issues. Is it the firewire port or the speakers or (and most likely) just a firmware glitch with mac pro? Anyone else see these issues?

Here is my audio settings. For some reason I wish I could remember what I did. It was actually the Apple Store tech in the Unversity Village in Seattle that gave me the idea and I swear I had to change the settings in MIDI setup. Now that Leopard is out it seems the MIDI stuff has been redone. I included screenshots of my MIDI setup as it is currently to see if you see something different on your computers. Let me know!

  • Since updating to Lion the iMac won't recognise the external hard drive (maxtor) when waking from sleep mode,

Hi All, Since updating to Lion, my imac won't recognise the ext HDD (Maxtor) when waking from sleep mode, I have tried another port, diisc utility (Ext HDD not listed in here) but nothing works. I now find that I have to restart the imac to get the drive recognised..which is fine until the imac goes into sleep mode then I lose the drive and have to restart etc etc.....anyone suffering same issue.  The Ext Drive worked perfectly until the upgrade..

Thanks for this, and apologies for delay in replying...in between seeing your post I backed up the ext hdd to another mac and used the disc utility to erase and repair and then re mounted the ext hdd. OK.  I have then tested the ext hdd being recognised when waking from sleep mode a few times and everything appears to be fine. If this doesn't work (long term) I will follow the instructions as you have suggested....
I now have a new problem with my HP printer (Photosmart Plus) which is not being recognised by a new wireless router..Ok whilst the router is switch on and I have reconfigured the printer..but when the router is switched off overnight and then switched back on...I get a 'printer is not connected' message and have to go through the re configure routine all over. I am minded to think this is a router problem as the same issue is happening to my wifes Mac Book Pro (which is only a few weeks old)...any suggestions..

  • 2 Lion Problems: Waking from Sleep Doesn't Go to Wifi Network; & Can No Longer Finger Swipe in Firefox to Move Backward/Forward

I hve a late 2009 iMac at home that I've upgraded to Lion. So far, there are only 2 issues that I'm having:
1 - When I wake the iMac from a long sleep, it doens't automatically log into my wifi network. I have to drag the mouse up to the menu bar, click on the signal icon and choose my wifi network. A few tiems yesterday, the computer stopped recognizing the network while I was in the middle of surfing. Haven't had that in a while, but the inability to log in directly after waking up remains.
2 - I use Firefox to surf. I can no longer move backwards and forwards between pages by swiping left or right. It works in Safari, but not in Firefox. Is that a new functionality that has to be rebuilt into Firefox because of Lion?

    Caleb was here wrote:
I have a similar wifi problem after installing Lion. When my computer goes to sleep or I turn my wifi off, it won't reconnect to my wireless network. I have to manually select it and then retype my wep password. It tries to connect and then says "connection timeout" and the login failed, however, even though it says that it was unable to connect, it actually does connect and I get regular connectivity. Frustrating.
    I have a 15" core i7 2010  MBP.
@Caleb was here.  I had the same issue before I switched to Lion, turned  out it was some issue with my router.  I bought another router and I  haven't had the issue since.  Try changing from WEP to WPA (you should  do this anyway) and see if you have the same issues still.

  • EMac having issues waking from sleep

I used to own a 1 gig eMac. I never had an issue with it, now that I have sold it however, it's having this issue waking from sleep. The only way to get it back is to power it down by holding the power button.
When I had it, I had Panther running on it's main drive and Tiger running on a firewire drive. Regardless though, I can't see that being the issue (well I guess I can ... I don't want to believe it, but I guess I can). Now it's running Tiger on the 80 gig main drive. When he goes to wake it, the drive spins up but the screen stays dark, but if he holds the power button down it works fine. Go figure?
Has anybody else had this issue. All of the software updates were and have been done since. Though I don't recall exactly which version of Tiger he's on but I know he's on the most recent. Any input will be greatly appreciated of course.
I don't know that the Apple Hardware Test would indicate if a hard drive was about to fail either would it?
    Regards
    Mike

I think what that post was trying to express is that there's often a lag between the release of new Mac hardware and the release of retail OS X Install discs that incorporate all the new drivers that go with the new hardware. That is, if you have a retail OS X disc that was pressed in January, it likely will give poor results if you use it to restore a Mac released in September. If you look at the Software section of System Profiler, after the OS X numerical version you'll find a build number in parentheses; "Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)", say. While you almost always hear the "don't use an earlier version of the OS on your new Mac" warning expressed in terms of the numerical OS X version, it's really the build number that matters. It's safe to say that you can use a retail OS X install disc on a Mac that predates the release of that OS X disc.
Since the 1.0 GHz eMac shipped with Panther 10.3, any retail 10.4 disc will work with it. So on one hand, good news: your buyer doesn't face the fun of doing a reinstall of the OS, but bad news, that leaves the question of why it isn't waking from sleep.
There could be a remote chance that the wireless mouse is involved, although it's unlikely and I've never had such problems with any of the Logitech mice I've used through the years. If you have the LCC (Logitech Control Center) software installed (it'll show up in System Preferences -> Other when using View by Categories) from the CD that came with the mice, you can compare it with the current version 2.6 and possibly upgrade. I'd also check that the mouse's battery is fresh.
You might get a better clue as to what's going on by opening Applications -> Utilities -> Console, select system.log, and look for events timestamped around the time the eMac was put to sleep and again at the it was attempted to wake it. You might find something like:
    AFPSleepWakeHandler: going to sleep
    System Sleep
Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes
Followed, upon waking the computer, by:
    Started CPU 01
IOBluetoothHCIController::restartShutdownWL this is a wake from sleep
    System Wake
    USB caused wake event (EHCI)
AppleYukon2 - en0 link active, 100-Mbit, full duplex, flow control disabled port 0
    kernel[0]: AFPSleepWakeHandler: waking up
mDNSResponder: Repeated transitions for interface en0 (xxx.xxx.xxx.xx); delaying packets by 5 seconds
    configd[67]: posting notification com.apple.system.config.network_change
    lookupd[2678]: lookupd (version 369.6) starting - Wed Aug 20 08:06:57 2008
Some of the calls will depend on whether the Mac is on a network, managed remotely, etc. What you want to look for are any errors or suspicious messages close to the AFPSleepWakeHandler call, around either the System Sleep or System Wake lines.

  • Read the fixes and still having problems. Firefox will not open at all and I receive a crash report upon launch. Have restarted, shut down, run virus and malware checks and even tried downloading and reinstalling with no response. Please assist.

Read the fixes. Cannot open Firefox in safe mode. Have tried reinstalling Firefox. Crash occurs each time I try to launch Firefox. Have run scans, checked for malware, spyware, installed all windows updates and still no luck.
Have accessed my crash reports. One of the reasons indicated is:
    GenuineIntel family 6 model 23 stepping 10
    Crash Reason
    EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE
Have no idea how to fix this and have had crash reports since yesterday evening.
    Signature: nsStandardURL::SchemeIs(char const*, int*)

Sorry believe something got miscommunicated. Wasn't trying to qualify firefox as malware - was terming it that way because the malware was crashing Firefox and no other issue. Worked on it and had isolated the virus in avast (put it in the chest) and was searching for assistance on why even after isolating the virus and restarting (some forums had indicated to then uninstall and reinstall Firefox, which I did), still would not launch without the crash report.
Worked the problem and eventually installed a 5.0 version of Firefox and it launches. Only seems to have the crash report with 6.0 or higher.
The forums had suggested that if after isolating the malware in avast or disinfecting it with MBAM (tried that too), to uninstall and then reinstall the latest version of firefox. That's when I tried the older versions. Had run a boot log scan as well and didn't see any additional problems. Just can't launch in 6.0 or higher.

  • Re: Itunes 10.3 for windows  I had problems  whereas when I searched for a song I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" when I was already in it I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version  Still having problems

I had following problem: When I tried to search for a song in the Itunes Store I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" (even though it appeared I was already in the store) Everytime I typed a character in the Search box the Accessing Itunes Store message would pop up
I was told to uninstall Itunes and Quick time programs and reinstall latest versions, which I have done and now have Itunes 10.3
I still got same messages so I tried a few things and when I went to my itunes account profile I got message "Requested Resouce not found"
Don't know where to go from this point.  HELP

I have the same issue.  I took it the genius bar and called talked to tier 2 phone support. They have standard thing where you uninstall all apple software in a certain order and then reinstall 64bit itunes.  That did nothing (tried it 4 times).
I've gotten two clues so far.
One is that at the store if I plug someone else's iphone 4 in then itunes acts the same way. So it is not the phone. Two is tier 2 phone support told me to try syncing it with a fresh user account (an admin one). I did that and itunes was just fine, it did not freeze.
So there appears to be some conflict with the software, music files, whatever that is on my current user account (also an admin account).  I ran virus and malware detectors and found nothing.  Now I'm going to try putting my music, movies, apps, etc in the new user account and see if the phone will sync then.
I know its not much but thats where I'm at. I hope it helps.

  • I am still having problems downloading from App Store on iPad Air

I Am unable to download apps on iPad Air with the current iOS 8.1 system . Has anyone got any helpful tips

Read this whole message before doing anything.
    Back up all data.
Quit the App Store application if it’s running.
    Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.appstore
Leave the Library folder open. Try the App Store again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, quit again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
    Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
Test. If the App Store now works, delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit again. Put back the files you moved, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place, and continue.
    Step 3
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    test -d $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.appstore && rm -r $_
Drag or copy and paste the selected line — do not type it — into the Terminal window. You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ("$"). Quit Terminal.
Test. If the issue is still not resolved, post again.

  • My ipod touch is saying that I can't connect to itunes because i need the latest update but when i hook it up to my computer it says i have the latest update. where do i go from here?

i just got an ipod touch secondhand. when i try to go to itunes its says "request cannot be completed" then when i search for apps on the internet and try to download them it say I need to update my itunes, but then when I sync my ipod to my computer its says I have the most recent update.

I think that the message is telling you that you need a newer version of the iOS on your iPod.  If the computer has iTunes 10.5 installed then your iPod is maxed out.
    - A 1G iPod can go to 3.1.3 and you get that here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
    - A 2G to 4.2.1
    - A 3g and 4G to 5.

  • Update to 10.6.3 and having problems returning from sleep mode

    Hi,
Updated yesterday to 10.6.3 and having issues returning the laptop from sleep mode.
I close the lid and the laptop goes to sleep but when opening the laptop I just get a blank screen. I can hear the hard drive start up but nothing is displayed on the screen and the sleep light is constantly on. Have tried various combinations of key presses to get it back but nothing works. I end up powering the laptop off in the end.
Anyone else have this problem? Or know how to resolve it.
I have run daily, weekly, monthly maintenance scripts, cleared system and user cache and repaired disk permission but I'm still getting the issue. I have a Time Machine backup but it dates back a month so I'm reluctant to restore.
    Cheers,
    Luke

I'm having a similar problem that I may have cracked. My screen is on but the backlight is off (so the image is practically 100% on resume from hibernate. Have you reset the pram and cleared the smc?
