I have the new Macbook Air w/128Gb
My wife just gave me a Great Macbook Air w/128Gb & 4Gb, i want to use it at work, but need to use Windows 7 or 8 to access my companies Domain.
Will Parallels or Fusion 5 work on the Air? Are there any drawbacks, and which is best for this?
Thanks, Bob
Parallels will work and is a nearly 'no fuss' installation and more stable for applications from what Ive used in same.
8gig of RAM would have been ideal however, but 4 will work unless its a 'heavy' Win7 program.
I would opt for Win7 for several reasons not mentioned.
Thats one nice gift.

is there a port to connect it to an avi display?

thank you very much! You need a MiniDisplay port to VGA adapter and a VGA cable. The adapter plugs into either a Thunderbolt or MiniDisplay port.

I have a new MAcBook Air and my photos don't fit on the internal hard drive. I want to store my photos on an external hard drive which I will connect to my Air when using Iphoto. How do I set an external hard drive as the default drive in Iphoto?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I have a new MacBook Air with a USB super drive. I put in a DVD and I get nothing. No Icon on the desk top, no help from DVD player. How do I get it to play and how to eject it now that it's in?
There's a defect. The computer is in warranty so take it in for repair.

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
MacBook
I have this question too (0) ReplyYour question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac" maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well. I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours, I dont know.......

I have a new Macbook Air, 6 months old, and for the last few days the fan had run continuously, this is the first time it has ever run, and now it won't stop, the fan starts up as soon as I turn it on and the computer seems to running more slowy. The computer is not hot but I am worried it may burn out,.Any ideas on how I can fix this please ?
Hello dwb,
Here is the screen shot, just the top half, there are another 10 pages, but I guess this should enough for you to have an idea of waht is going on, bit small I am afraid. No, I don't have any apps setup to run when I open my computer, the kernel, varies between 290 and 305 per cent ish.
Would that PRAM thing help ? I think it may be the computer itself, well something inside, as this the first time that the fan has ever started running since I have this computer, even when I have 3 or 4 apps running.
Thank you again for your advice,
Regard,

I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both still result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.
I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksThanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply. -

I have a new MacBook Air with Yosemite (no CD/DVD capacity). I want to install Photoshop Elements 6. Can I do this with the serial number? If pse 6 is not compatible, can I upgrade to pse 7. I do not need pse 12 or 13
I cannot answer regarding compatibility, but there is no download available for PSE6 if you would need one for this. You might be able to copy the installation files from a disk to some other removable media that the machine accepts. Upgrading to PSE7 would not be possible mainly because Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.

I have a new MacBook Air 11'inch and I presume that it should come with the iLife programs. However, when I signed into the appstore with my account I have used with all of my Mac products, it now said I had to purchase each program, like iPhoto, iMovie, ect. seperate. I have already logged in and out of my account and called the "free" part of tech support. How can I reslove this issue?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you really have a new MacBook, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand come with the Mac for free.
As you see their price at the Mac App Store, it's clear that there's a problem with your MacBook. Simply return it if you purchased it less than 14 days ago and you will receive a new MacBook -

I just bought the new macbook air (this week technically) it arrived today and nd pages, numbers, keynote are not preinstalled
first of all the software was mountain lion so I updated to mavericks (had it on usb from imac download)
and When i do to the app store there is no free iwork/pages/keynotes
it has the new ibooks
so nit sure why i am not eligible
I kind feel a bit cheated it is frustratingWelcome to Apple Support Communities
That's normal. You can get the iWork apps for free, but it doesn't mean that your MacBook comes with them preinstalled.
Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and install the applications for free. If you can't, you can still get them for free. See > http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/up-to-date/

Thin lines inside letters when overprinting
hello all. I overprint a K area with a C one (40%C, set to multiply), both containing the same text white in the same position, plus 0.3 border in C (sort of manual supertrapping, I don't trust the printer in the case at hand). Looks fine in InDesign
