Handling Non-English characters in the payload
Hi Gurus,
We are currently facing an issue in XI with Non-English characters. When we are trying to process Non-English characters in the payload , they are getting converted in to Junk characters at the receiver end. This scenario inbound to SAP ( File to Idoc scenario ) . Is there a way that Non-English characters can be handled in XI.
Regards,
NickHi Nick,
I have knowledge of some problems when showing some kind of chinese character when

Entry of non-English characters into the db
Hi
We are facing a problem in inserting non-English characters into the database. For example, we have a company name field which can accept German characters. This field has been defined as of varchar2 type of size 50 in the db. When we enter 49 English characters and then one German character, the database is throwing the error that the inserted value is too large for the column. Is it that the German character is taken as equivalent to two English characters ? Or is there any database level setting that can be done for this ? For the time being we have identified certain critical fields and have doubled the size of their fields in the db. But I guess there has to be another solution to this....
Please help.
nullIndeed, your German character is using two bytes to store itself. Consult the Oracle JDBC Developer's Guide.

If only it were that simple. Many of us have no "none" available.
Since the guy on the other discussion clearly had no desire to help anyone, I thought I'd ask here instead... can anyone help with this?Open iTunes and navigate to the app store. Select a free app to download. A simple way to do this is to scroll down to the top free apps box on the right hand side, hover your mouse over the first item and click on the free button that appears when you hover over it.
A pop up will open asking you to sign in with your Apple ID click "create new account", click continue to create your account. Check the box to accept the store terms and conditions and click continue.
Enter your email address, password, security question, and date of birth, click continue. Now, you will be asked to provide a payment method. Note now that the last option says "none". -

Can username, password have unicode(non english) characters
Does Oracle allow a username, password to have non english characters.
I found the answer to my own question. In essence it looks like the answer is Yes for UserName and a little confusing for the Password. Password has to be in Single byte characterset, not clear whether 7 bit or 8 bit. 8 bit from my understanding is Ascii + some Western European characters.
Following is from Oracle 10G Database SQL reference
user
Specify the name of the user to be created. This name can contain only characters from your database character set and must follow the rules described in the section "Schema Object Naming Rules". Oracle recommends that the user name contain at least one single-byte character regardless of whether the database character set also contains multibyte characters.
Note:
Oracle recommends that user names and passwords be encoded in ASCII or EBCDIC characters only, depending on your platform.
BY password
The BY password clause lets you creates a local user and indicates that the user must specify password to log on to the database. Passwords can contain only single-byte characters from your database character set regardless of whether the character set also contains multibyte characters.
Passwords must follow the rules described in the section "Schema Object Naming Rules", unless you are using the Oracle Database password complexity verification routine. That routine requires a more complex combination of characters than the normal naming rules permit. -
I am teaching an online course through CTUOnline. I use a Mac OS 10.4.11. When I access the site thru Firefox, the IM chat window just says "Loading" but never loads. My campus mail, which is accessed through Outlook, frequently boots me out. I must copy and save every message, because I cannot predict when it will go through and when I will be thrown out. I have set my Preferences to allow pop-ups from ctuonline.edu and from campus.ctuonline.edu. I do not have these (connection?) problems when I access the site through Safari.

Read a non english word from text file
While Reading thai charater from text file which was sent by QAD(a different application),
We are reading 60 char using substr() function.
If the data is English word it reads correctly with 60 char.
But if it is in thai characters it returns more than 60 char.
In oracle all NLS Char set has been already set.
Can anyone help in this issue
thanks in advanceMaybe you should use SUBSTRC, SUBSTR2 or SUBSTR4 depending on the character set of your database. See http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/functions119a.htm#87068

i have black boxes around all the images i bring into pages. why are they there and how can i get rid of them?
Pages rememebers the last setting you used on images.
So if you had a border on the last image the next one you bring in will have one too.
To change that select:
Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > None
Spend a little time exploring the menus and particularly the Toolbar and Inspectors whcih are in reasonably logical progression from big things down to smaller details and clearly labeled.
It is also possible that you have show Layout on which outlines objects on th screen so you can see what's what. To change that:
Menu > View > Hide Layout

Is it possible to purchase a non-english keyboard in the US?
We often have users that would like a different langugage keyboard on their laptops. I have a brazillian user that would like a Portuguese keyboard, and was told that needs to be purchased in Brazil, or a custom laptop needs to be ordered straight from lenovo.
Can anyone shed some light on this or have experience getthing them in the US?Hi asenft!
Look up the part number for the keyboard you want in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. There will be at least two manufacturers. A good place to search for the part is IBM Parts.
Hope this helps!
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer! -
I have an iPhone 4S. In my van I have a portable Bluetooth called blue ant. I have it synced to my iPhone 4S. When I try to sync it to my JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker all it will do is keep searching. My question is this. Is it not possible to have both devices synced at the Same time?
Nope. You can only be connected to one Bluetooth speaker at once.
Hope this helps -
I have pdf files in European languages and want to be able to enter non-English characters in the "find" function. How does one install other character sets for use with Acrobat Pro XI?
Have you tried applying the update by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop Lightroom? The update should be using the same licensing? Did you perhaps customize the installation location? Finally which operating system are you using?

Handling Non English language characters in PDF output
Hi All,
We have a requirement wherein we have to display an existing Smartform output in a PDF format.
We have used OTF to PDF conversion and displayed the PDF output in a container.
The issue is if certain characters are of non english language then the PDF is displaying these characters as special symbols.
The following string is getting dispalyed in the SmartForm as follows:
ОРЕНБУРГАВТОРЕМСЕРВИС_
The same string is displayed as follows in the PDF form :
Any pointers on how to handle such cases would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
regards
Chaitanya
9703019495Before calling the smartform, use the FM 'SSF_GET_DEVICE_TYPE' and get the device type based on the language.
For eg:
CALL FUNCTION 'SSF_GET_DEVICE_TYPE'
EXPORTING
i_language = l_langu
IMPORTING
e_devtype = lwa_output_options-tdprinter.
Then you need to build the other control parameters like this:
Build control parameters.
lwa_control_parameters-getotf = c_charx.
lwa_control_parameters-device = 'PRINTER'.
lwa_control_parameters-preview = ''.
lwa_control_parameters-no_dialog = c_charx.
lwa_output_options-tddest = 'LOCL'.
Pass this lwa_output_options & lwa_control_parameters to output_options & control_parameters respectively in the Smartform FM.
This should ideally solve this issue.

However here we use subquery factoring to create sample table on-the-fly and assume OP will have real table. So I'd leave your example as is, but would let OP know to use:
select distinct
listagg(substr(str,level,1))within group ( order by level desc) over (partition by str) r
from testdata
connect by
level <= length(str)
and rowid = prior rowid
and prior sys_guid() is not null

SQL>We got one row back instead of two. You probably put DISTINCT trying to resolve all these issues caused by building hierarchy and partitions on a non-unique bases. So now, when we identify rows uniquely by rowid, DISTINCT is not needed and should be replaced by GROUP BY (along with using aggregate LISTAGG instead of analytic LISTAGG). So final solution would be:
select listagg(substr(str,level,1))within group ( order by level desc) r
from testdata
connect by
level <= length(str)
and rowid = prior rowid
and prior sys_guid() is not null
