iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Thin Black Line going halfway across the top of the screen
Hi - I've exported a sequence from FCP. It's DV Pal 720x576 anamorphic 16:9 lower field dominance. I used compressor to create the mpeg 2 file for DVDSP. I used the Best Quality DVD 150 min setting. The problem I'm having is that when I export the file from DVD studio pro I get a black line going halfway across the top line of the video. I suspect it's either a deinterlacing issue or a field dominance problem. But I'm really stuck on how to sort it. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks very much.
Something like this?
................................................................................ ........... (might also be mirrored horizontally)
That's the Half Line Offset and is a characteristic of interlaced video, not an issue or field dominance problem. It's quite complicated to explain and probably not surprising if you have never seen it before as it won't be visible on a regular TV set.
Short article here: http://lipas.uwasa.fi/~f76998/video/modes/ Look at the section "The "active" part of the signal". There's probably plenty more on the web, now you know what it's called.
What can you do about it? You will need to view FCP's output on an external interlaced monitor that is capable of displaying in underscan mode so you can see it.
Then you can use the crop controls to snip it off. -
Why do my high resolution pdfs have thin white lines all over them?
When I make high res pdfs to send to the printer, they often have thin white lines in them that seem to be very visible when they are displayed in email. This panicks my clients. When the files are opened in Acrobat, they look OK most of the time, but sometimes they still have the white lines. What causes this and how can I make it STOP!!! It is driving me and my clients nuts.
I am using Acrobat 8 Professional on a iMac OSX 10.6.8. My files are pretty standard for print pubs. They usually contain type and images, and the images get the white lines where the text boxes are in the source file. It is maddening.I forgot to say that I am creating source files in AI CC if that makes a difference, but I have had this problem in the past with previous versions of AI.

Why do I have a flashing white line of pixels across the middle of my screen?
My Ipod Touch 4 Gen has a small line of off coulour pixels mid way down the screen and after a while this line stretches across the screen and the whole screen flickers.
Is this a hardware issue or is it part of the notorious graphical glitches present in IOS 4, so to solve this I tried upgrading to IOS 5 this did not help.
Hopefully you can help me.
Thanks.Since iOS 5 did not solve the problem I conclude it is a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Simple question - need to create a line that moves across the screen
Hello All;
Simple problem - I need to animate a line of a solid color that starts on the right and moves across the screen to the left. I know I can create a layer of a solid color and then animate the scale to sort of make it work but that changes both sides of the line and I need to only change the position of one side.
I know there are probably numerous ways of doing this - what is the easiest and most straightforward. Thanks.

rectangular mask that covers line, animate it off screen and it will
reveal the line as it moves off. -
My camera intermittently has pink lines over the screen which transmits into the photo.
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If you've been through ALL these recommended steps and the problem persists, bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

Does anyone know what I can do about this? I'm pretty certain that I didn't do anything wrong, and I already got it checked for viruses and it is not that.
Thank you so much,
~Poor college kid trying to get by.Hard to say, you'd have to shop around. Check first with authorized service providers - https://locate.apple.com/au/en/#
If they're not authorized, make sure they give a warranty on the repair and hopefully have some good reviews on Google/Yelp etc.
Also make sure you test it when you get it back, it's common for the replacements to fail unfortunately (from Apple at least, probably anywhere). -
when the phone goes from sleep to wake or wake to sleep does anyone else notice faint lines going horezontally across the screen as it changes? They last for a fraction of a second. They are likebad reception on a tv? Is it normal?
Sheffieldboy,
It is hard to diagnose symptoms such as this on a discussions forum.
If you feel you have a hardware issue, I would recommend taking it to an Apple Retail Store to be looked at by one of the Mac Geniuses there. If there is not an Apple Retail Store near you, you can call AppleCare for further troubleshooting assistance.
Hope this helps,

Suddenly, my Classic ipod got two narrow, black lines runnings horizontally across the screen. Will thes eventually go away or is the screen damaged?
Thanks! You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity. A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less. Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

I have 2 lines horizontally across my screen, it is a defect in the screen.
My macbook air has two lines that run horizontally across the screen. They are there when the computer is off. I have tried to clean the screen but it does not affect the lines.
Thank you Paul. I had a suspiicion it might be. I'll try the safe boot idea read somewhere else and if not will take in for a service.

Thin white line at top of ipod 80G classic screen
Would like to know if there is a way to get rid of this line, which is located across the top of the screen, in the area where the battery icon is located. The screen was fine then I downloaded the latest version of software for the 80G Classic and synced it. Next thing I knew I had this white line across the top of the screen. Is there a way to get rid of the line, or do I have to send the unit in and have Apple repair it? Only had the unit since December 2007.
Oh - you are good!

Thin white lines on desktop background
After having my computer on for a while, one or two thin horizontal white lines will appear on the screen. They are around a few inches long, and never appear in the same place twice. They only affect my desktop background, not any windows or screen saver at all.
Reloading the desktop background or restarting the computer makes the lines go away, but I'm wondering what is causing them, and if it's a sign of some underlying problem.Insert your MacOSX DVD
reboot while pressing ALT key
when icons appear on the screen select Apple Hardware Test and run extended test.
Perhaps a video memory problem. If yes motherboard is dead !
