I have three questions...

How do I get to the Root of my Hard Drive. I need to go "outside" of just my user files. I have a file that sits on the root level of my Hard Drive.
Also, in "All Files" view, I have some files I don't want to show up there. How do I hide them?
And...I don't want to have a window view of my email. If I get an email that I think is Spam, I can't delete it without it loading. Then, It tells the Spammer that it's an active address and I just get more. I want to choose the email and then then decide, "read it" or delete it.

If you mean get to the Root by the terminal, type: cd /
If you meant by the desktop, click on the icon of your hard drive and open it.
I don't think you can hide them, yet, but you can change how stuff shows up. Go to "All My Files" and use either Command-J or in the menu View>Show View Options and you'll be able to change how the files appear.

    As far as I know you're going to run out of disc space before you hit any limits. Each object in iTunes has a 64-bit key to access it. That said as your library grows it will get less responsive as bigger indexes take exponentially longer to process.

    iTunes wants to manage everything inside one big folder. Some idiosyncrasies with the way it manages things if you have to move to a new drive means it is best if you can stick to that plan. If your library grows larger then you'll have to take manual control of where some or all of your content is stored. I use a variation of a script called ConsolidateByMoving which you could adapt for your needs.
    3) OK now comes te real question. I am sure that I have duplicates in my library and I sure would love to clean my library up.Possiby if I do get to clean it up, I can save some disk space and that is always a good thing.   • I have three questions. Count em'... 3!

    Question #1 (my firts question)(out of three)
    Is there a way you can bounce multiple logic files and put them all on one cd.
    I'm starting to run out of blank CDs!
    Question #2 (my second question) (out of a total of 3)
    I saw a program where you can split the bounced tracks
    For example if I had a song with 400 measures, I could have measures 1-150 on track 01 on my cd, and the measures 151-400 on track 2 of my cd?
    Question #3 (my final question)
    How do you use markers? I dont know how to put one up, and when I did get one up one time, I couldnt change it or delet it.
    Well I guess I have another question.
    Is there a way to arm multiple tracks for recording.
    I record 8 simotanious tracks, and when I'm arming the tracks it looks pretty unperfessional (I doubt I spelled that right) the way I'm trying to push the down button and clik the rec button on every track.
    And it looks like I'm trying to make a drum beat.
    I'm an engineer. Not a drummer.
    Oh! how do I change my profile name that says "hey!!!!"
    I thought I'd be able to change it.

    1: Yes, bounce all your songs as AIFF files and burn them on CD with iTunes, Toast or Jam.
    2: Bounce your song and open the bounced file in Logic. Split the file as two files where you want the 2nd track to begin. Export both regions as AIFF files. Burn them on CD with Toast or Jam and put no space between songs. Remember to burn in Disk-At-Once mode to have no glitches.

  • Three questions: new songs, two devices, organizing albums

    I have searched and searched and still have three questions that I can't find an answer to. I hope you guys can help.
    1) I have a few albums that are not organized with each other and are duplicates and such, when I upload to itunes match, will those be organized from apple's database?
    These were songs from cd's, friend's hd, etc.
    2) when I upload new songs in the future from cd's I may buy or put new songs in itunes that I don't buy from apple, are those uploaded to match automatically?
    3) I'm sure this one has been answered already...but,  can my wife and I use the same match library on two separate devices?

    Locate the "DEVICES" menu in the left column of iTunes, and click on the name of your iPod. This should display the "Summary" tab, giving you information about the iPod. Scroll down until you see a check box that says "Open iTunes when this iPod is Connected," and uncheck it. This will stop the iPod from automatically syncing. Good luck

  • Three questions about XFCE4

    I love XFCE.  I have three questions though:
    1st)  I am trying to add some launchers to the bottom and was wondering if people knew any good ways to find icons?  Some (gaim and xscreensaver) put there icons in /usr/share/pixmaps which is nice.  Others like, firefox, bluefish, xmms ect I can't find anywhere?  Were they somewhere else or do I have to go online and try to find them?
    2nd)  Does anyone know of it's possible to get a program to not show up on the taskbar?  I am using a really small monitor so things like XMMS take up space.
    3nd)  How do you change defaults?  If I try to open a url it tries to load mozilla.

    1) I remember seeing Icons also listed in the share folder of gnome.  I think it's something like /opt/gnome/share/icons/48x48? or something like that.  you could always download icon packs from art.gnome.org and put them in your  ~/.icons directory and tell xfce to load them directly from there.
    2) don't really know.   I've always used the iconbox and liked it.  but don't how effective it is on a small screen.  also, you could open things in a different workspace and tell the taskbar to show things only from that particular workspace.  this way you can put the things you don't want to interact with constantly in a different workspace and have them going in the background while you work.

  • Three Questions: Which Windows OS, Parallels, and HD Partitioning?

    Hi Everyone,
    I have three questions about Boot Camp and Parallel that I hope someone can answer. I've been searching high and low on the internet, but can't seem to get a definitive answer.
    I have a MacBook Pro. Specs: 2.16 GHz Core Duo (Tiger, v10.4.11), 2GB RAM, 100 GB HD (or more like 18 GB free now, running Final Cut Pro 5, Photoshop CS, Office for Mac 2004).
    1) I purchased the Leopard upgrade and want to install Windows. Should I choose Vista or XP? I know XP is more stable, takes up less resources, and has better program compatibility...but Vista is newer. To give you a sense of what I use Windows for right now...I mainly run AOL, Outlook, Office, Firefox, and Microsoft Flight Simulator (the only game I play).
    2) I also purchased Parallels v3.0. If I use Windows for Parallels and Boot Camp, do I need two installations of the windows OS? Does Parallels know that there's a Windows partition already?
    3) How much room should I give for the Windows partition? I've been reading 5GB for XP and 15 for Vista, just for the OS itself. Also, what file structure should I choose? NTFS or FAT?
    I should also add that I want to do a clean install of everything to start fresh again. All of my files are backed up already onto an external hard drive.

    ok, so Vista is newer & prettier - so what? will it give you anything you don't already have? probably not. having been drawn in by the shiny-newness of Vista, and progressively disappointed by is demons, i'd seriously reconsider my choice if i had to do it all again right now. maybe in 6-12 months time the "issues" will have been worked out...
    the latest versions of both Parallels & VMWare recognise & use an existing BootCamp partition, so only 1 Windows partition/VM is required. so you'd first create your BootCamp partition via OSX, install Windows onto it, and then Parallels (or at least VMware, from recent personal experience) will see it as a valid virtual partition.
    your figures for Windows' own HDD usage are fair (+ apps & data).
    just be warned that an out-of-the-box install of XP will consume ~200MB ram, & Vista is more than 3 times that. with XP i have the tools & know-how to pare it down to <80MB, but I'm still battling to get Vista's ram footprint smaller than ~400MB. this comes right off the top of your free ram while under OSX/Parallels...

    1) At OS level we have two SAP services that are running, first is the SAPOSCOL service and second is SAP<SID>_<Instance_no>
    I know what SAPOSCOL do..but what is the role of this second service SAP<SID>_<Instance_no> ?
    2) During a client export using scc8, it is said that upto three transport requests can be generated depending on the copy profile selected for export. Now to start this export process we have to schedule a background job and the export process will start asynchronously.
    Now my question is how will i know which transport requests are created for this export .....I mean where will i see these created requests and when ( means are these requests created as soon as the background job is scheduled or after the completion of the export process ) ?
    3) Suppose I have three application servers( one central and two dialog instance )for an R/3 system (say dev)
    Now my question is how will I start or stop these servers....will SAP MMC will be present in all the three application servers and I need to log to each application server and start it OR only the central instance will have the SAP MMC and I can start or stop all the application servers from there ??

    Here are the answers
    1. SAP_SID_Instance Number service will help you in setting up auto start or manual start of SAP services when Windows comes up.
    2. Once you use SCC8 and start the client export you can start monitoring it using SCC3 once the export is completed it will show in SCC3 what all the requests generated. These three Import requests are generated in STMS. You can go and check in import overview for the same import request and start the import of them in respective clients and system.
    3. Hey Buddy each of these servers will have MMC on it.
    Always you need to shutdown application servers first then CI. Then while starting Start CI then apps.

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

    Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

  • I have a question on how guest can still get into my computer when I deleted that.  Plus took files of mine, change names in my phone book.  Lets say they are messing with me.  It is driving me a bit nuts.  Help?

    Hello, I have a question on "quest".?????     I have someone getting into my computer. I have shut of the quest... and yet yesterday all of my files were stolen.  My phone book, someone goes in and changes my phone number, and just changes so many things around.  It really has me upset.  Please... tell me how I can keep "guest"  out for good. I bought this computer for me.  Not guest, yet all I see here on the apple ways is how others can hook in, or get in to our computers. 
    Its upsetting, and  to see how you give step by step instruction to help them get into other people's computers is upsetting, yet not much on how to keep them out.  Tell me just how to keep them out for good.  I have a hacker, in mine.  Stealing things.  I have cleaned my computer out three times, in the last few weeks.     Data rate DOES make a difference, but I'd say your real problem has more to do with the fact that you're working on a Powerbook. Motion's real time capabilities derive from the capability of the video card. Not the processor. Some cards do better than others, but laptops are not even recommended for running Motion.
    To improve your workflow on a laptop will be limited, but there are a few things that you can try.
    Make sure that thumbnails and previews are turned off.
    Make sure that you are operating in Draft Mode.
    Lower the display resolution to half, or quarter.
    Don't expect to be getting real time playback. Treat it more like After Effects.
    Compressing your clips into smaller Animations does help because it lowers the data rate, but you're still dealing with the animation codec which is a high data rate codec. Unfortunately, it sounds necessary in your case because you're dealing with alpha channels.
    The data rate comes into play with your setup trying to play through your USB drive. USB drives are never recommended for editing or Motion work. Their throughput is not consistent enough for video work. a small FW drive would be better, though your real problem as I said is the Powerbook.
    If you must work on the powerbook, then don't expect real-time playback. Instead, build your animation, step through it, and do RAM previews to view sections in real time.

    I have called support twice, both times even though it was a technical question about cloud, they refused to forward my calls and told me there is NO technicall support for Cloud and that I have to place my questions here in the forum.
    I am CONTINUALLY told to change my password, 2 and 3 times a week.  I am a sysAdmin, my passwords are a MINIMUM of 13 Char/UP/Lower/Number/Special Combo, always have been. They work out to a 100% approval in any algorythm checker.   Yes, I was one of the persons who had their password stolen which has caused me a tad bit of inconvenience, but such is life.   Is This Normal? I have gone on twitter a few times to verify the emails, I have got them so often.
    My "Cloud Sync" Hasn't worked since PhotoShop's Site Closed, I know this beause I stored my 20gigs of files, .ai,  and .eps, .psd eveything that I couldn't move to Revel (which btw, I never got a refund for having to purchase the revel account 20gigs, when photoshop was closed, which also was never refunded.) 
    I actually wasn't too worried about the cloud issue because I only work at home, if I go somewhere else.. work's not going with me

Why after being a Faithful Product User/Cloud Supporter for the Last two years, after going through all the trials and tribulations with Adobe, am I being asked to renew my license for a "One Time Per Year Fee" which is MORE than my monthly amount? ( deal: 599.80; payments at 49.95 per month is 599.40 Go Figure? ) So, I'm being asked to pay the same amount, make it a single payment and get half the software, litterally.   Did I miss a paticularly important anouncement?
    3.) EVERYONE OF MY IRREPLACABLE FILES IN MY CLOUD ALL MY AI FILES, are gone. Yesterday, it would seem My having the SYNC TURNED OFF was over-ridden by the system (Adobes) and they have upload 'garbage' files, and my original files, the caligraphy files are no longer there. My gorgeous image of a little boy with flowers is no longer there. I PAID ALMOST A GRAND for these files. Stored them on Adobe, because, well, you deal with images, so you're the best right, that's why I bought extra storage on photoshop.com, then was told I would have to move to revel, but not the ai, eps, or pdf and i don't remember about png's. files, so I moved everything to revel (purchased the extra storage there.) AND put everything on the cloud and turned off my file sync.  Not everyone is an idiot, maybe something is turned off, there's a reason for it, how dare someone override MY SETTINGS. They could have emailed, called, chat, google chat, irc, or snail mailed me, it's pretty easy to get my attention.
    I could just cry.

    asked to pay one time instead on monthy, and there's not even a discount and no additional incentive. Lost the ability to work without having to be connected to the internet, which will be delimited here very shortly since I'm on comcast.
    and the worst, the very absolutely worst part is this is the SECOND time in a row now, I've had an issue with Adobe that has gone on for over a year while support TELLS ME A PAYING CUSTOMER, that 'gee, sorry, no support for cloud" , "No I can't forward you to a tech" (direct quote) and "The Only support for any cloud issues is the forum"
    How can I handle this in the future, my nerves just can't take it anymore. Seriously, I'm just shaking now I'm so upset about this and I really hate writing something like this, or airing issues in public that really should be, imho, private.

    Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared  
    Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
    Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
    On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
    Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.

    my requirement --I have to insert 20 new records  into "scott.PERMANENT" table 
    2)In the Developemnt,QA both regions in the "scott.PERMANENT" table , 3 records are already presnet in the above new 20 records. 3)In the Production database , i dont have any data and have to insert all of the records.
    So inorder to insert the data i have to use the same script in all the regions meaning i have to iclude all the 20 new records in the insert script ,but based on the region name it should check and insert those records .
    could anyone please kindly give me an idea how to check the region name and insert.

If you're using Oracle 10 or higher, then you don't even need a WHEN MATCHED clause; if you only have a WHEN NOT MATCHED clause, it will simply ignore the rows that you said to add but already exist.
    If the columns have unique constraints, you can also INSERT all the data, and use an error logging clause
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post a complete test script that people can run to re-create the problem and test their ideas.
    For example:

    Straightforward question:
    Say you have the BRAND NEW 2013 27" iMac
    Say you have TWO of the 2013 brand new, thunderbolt 27" external monitors.
    YES you can plug in both the monitors, giving you "three displays"
    HOWEVER
    Can you run this as THREE LOGICAL DISPLAYS.
    So, you can move your mouse pointer completely from monitor A to B to C
    So what I mean is NOT using mirroring in any combination.  Three full logical screens?
    Is this actually possible?
    Has anyone DONE IT and can supply a PHOTO?
    Apple DOES NOT answer this question anywhere.

    Yes, it says everywhere on the Apple web site you can connect "two external displays".  No big deal.
    Can you actually have three LOGICAL displays (move your mouse pointer completely from monitor A to B to C, the content  of all three screens is completely different).
    This is a straightforward question that I have never seen decisively answered.  Thanks for any info.

    Contacted Apple support with the same question. This is what I heard back. The iMac supports 2 Thunderbolt displays because it has dedicated graphic cards. It supports only 2 thunderbolt displays. Hope it helps.

    I have some question when writing LabVIEW. I have DSP6711 and DSP6416, I use RTDX to send data to LabVIEW.
    I write three programes for LabVIEW, one is RTDX for DSP6711, another is RTDX for DSP6416, and the final is RTDX for two DSPs.
    The program of LabVIEW is workable when doing DSP6711 or doing DSP6416. But there is some problem when running DSP6711 and DSP6416 on LabVIEW at the same time.
    How to tell the LabVIEW's tool of " RTDX read" to  get the datas from different DSP

    What you want to do should be fairly straightward and a good way to learn labview. 
    First off, if you haven't already, I would download the drivers for the Keithley and Agilent instruments.  I found the keithley drivers at the link below.  You will need to find the labview drivers for the Agilent PS at their website.  Drivers are the VI's you will use in your program to control the insturments.

    Or you can email iTunes Support at iTunes Store Support.
    If all else fails:
      1. Go to: Apple Express Lane;
      2. Under Product Categories choose iTunes;
      3. Then choose iTunes Store;
      4. Then choose Account Management;
      5. Now choose iTunes Store Security and answer the bullet questions, then click
          Continue;
      6. Sign in with your Apple ID and press Continue;
      7. Under Contact Options fill out the information and advise iTunes that you would
          like your security/challenge questions reset;
      8. Click Send/Continue.
    You should get a response within 24 hours by email.
    In the event you are unsuccessful then contact AppleCare - Contacting Apple for support and service.
    Another user had success doing the following:
    I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
    Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
      a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
          tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
      b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
          "done", in the upper right corner
      c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
          Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
          should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
          security questions.
      d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
          selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
          should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
          questions.
    It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

    Hallo! I have a question to the following problem. I have to compare data. I get every 10 ms 3 data from a sensor. I must save the last 5 measurements. Compare the data and then I have to make a decision. Can I save the last 5 measurements with a shift register?? How can I save it, because I get continuously the data in the shift register. How can I compare the data when I put them in a cluster, save a cluster every 10ms and the I want to compare them with each other.

    If I understand you correctly, you need to operate on the last five data sets from your three sensors.
    Simply expand the right shift register to store the data from the last few iterations (see attached image). Since I don't know how you need to compare the data, I have just placed a generic VI that operates on the history data.
    (Please attach your VI if you want me to give you a more specific solution.)
