I have to enter the winxp cd to boot from s-ata drive

Yes! Really O_O
First with the drivers included on the sata disk, win xp wouldn't even install properly. Then my brother downloaded some new ones from the webbie and then I could get through the initial setup of windows xp. So everything worked then till I removed my win xp cd from my drive and tried rebooting ... nothing.. just stays put on the ms-dos type screens. If I enter my win xp cd again it asks me if I want to boot from it and when I just let it time-out it starts windows.
Very annoying. Am I doing something wrong or will a new bios fix this too?
Also I couldn't boot the board with an Aopen GF4 Ti4200, it boots perfectly fine on my old Epox nForce2 8RDA3+ board so It can't be the graphics card right? All it does is spin my fans a little and then shuts down. It boots fine with my 9700Pro and GF2 MX tho. I have a 380W PSU so it can't be that right? O_o
I have MSI K8N Neo Platinum with bios 1.1
Thanks in advance

I had almost exactly the same problem, but with more "disk" options to be confused by....
After I got my Power Supply problem fixed yesterday, I then found that the machine would usually boot, but then sometimes it would not boot at all - I was just getting a black screen.
I noticed that it would sometimes try to boot (or perhaps jump back to POST) if I opened and closed the DVD drive (I have 2, 1 a writer).
On reading this thread, I realised (and confirmed by testing) that the times Windows was booting OK were when I had CDROM set as my first boot device, and the WinXP disk was in the drive.  This got me to thinking.
What I thought was that the BIOS must be changing the drive assignments somehow so that the windows boot loader doesn't know how to find the relevant Windows disk/partition.
In my case the disk arrangement is rather complicated (I've got 4 physical HDDs set up with 2 of them in a RAID array (i.e. 3 physical disk volumes visible in Windows), and overall have 8 logical partitions on these 3 volumes).  Because of the problems I've been having, I've also had Windows installed on the 2nd partition of each of the 3 volumes at one time or another!
Anyway, after a lot of grief and 4 hours of trying lots of different things, the solution proved simple, I just went into Control Panel / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery Settings and chose "edit startup options manually":
This allows you to edit the main "boot.ini" file so that you can choose which operating system to load in a multi-boot configuration.  I had an entry which read:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
Basically this told the system to boot from the 2nd "rdisk" (the first would be rdisk(0)) and from the 2nd partition on that disk.  There's more info about this here: http://is-it-true.org/nt/atips/atips136.shtml
Most people with XP on a single HDD would have an entry reading: "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS" which means the first partion on the first disk.
I added a new line which read:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (Rdisk2)" /fastdetect
This gave me an extra option in the boot menu, and without the CDROM in the drive (or with the first boot device set to "floppy") if I choose the "R2" option this then boots properly into my main XP directory (on the 2nd partition of the 2nd physical disk).
Basically, I think there may be a BIOS fault which sets the physical disk references incorrectly if there is a bootable CD in the drive.
I don't know how one can fix this, but at least by having both options in boot.ini I can boot into Windows without the CDROM in the drive!
In your case, the reference to "rdisk(0)" is presumably pointing to the correct disk (SATA) when the CD is in and your second disk (PATA) when it is out.  To sort this you could presumably add various lines to the SATA disk's boot.ini to enable you to correctly boot to either drive as desired:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP SATA (CD in)" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP SATA (CD out)" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP PATA (CD in)" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP PATA (CD out)" /fastdetect
Cheers,
David

  • How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox

My younger sister executed my firefox just at this afternoon(she originally use IE), and she saw something that can't be seen. How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox?

Also see this for an English version of Profile Password:
    *Profile Password: http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/profilepassword-en.html#PPF
It is an extension to protect the profile with a password, but being an extension that protection can easily be bypassed by starting Firefox in [[Safe mode]].<br />
So do not rely on it.<br />
If you want to protect content then you have to use methods supported by the OS like a separate user account with a password or an encrypted file system.

Is this the iTunes library/computer you sync with? You can rally only "sync" with one iTunes library/computer.However, yo can manually manage music and videos among different libraries/computer. See the manual method of:

  • Tomcat Server Port Number: Why do I have to enter the port number?

My ultimate goal is to setup a website that displays data from a database. I will use Java, Apache, Oracle, and whatever else I need to create a website the uses servlets, JavaServer Pages, and JDBC.
Ive got four Pentium III computers:
    1. Windows 2000 Server to be the web server (MyWebServer, IP = 10.10.1.1).
    2. Windows 2000 Professional to be the database server (MyDatabaseServer, IP = 10.10.1.2).
    3. Windows 2000 Professional that I use to develop and test (MyDeveloperPC, IP = 10.10.1.3).
    4. Windows 2000 Professional that I use as a client to connect to the website (MyClientPC, IP = 10.10.1.4).
I installed Java Web Services Developer Pack on MyWebServer. It requires Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE), so I installed that first. The files I downloaded and installed are as follows:
    J2SE: j2sdk-1_4_0-rc-win.exe
    JWSDP: jwsdp-1_0-ea1-win.exe
After installing these products, I set the environment variables as follows:
    JAVA_HOME = c:\j2se
    JWSDP_HOME = c:\jwsdp
Path = c:\j2se\bin;c:\jwsdp\bin; [and other previous statements]
On MyWebServer I start Tomcat (from the JWSDP menu option). It starts properly (as far as I can tell).
Then, from MyClientPC I open Internet Explorer and in the address box I type:
    http://10.10.1.1
    The page cannot be displayed.
I then try again and add the port number:
    http://10.10.1.1:8080
    This displays the page c:\jwsdp\webapps\root\index.html.
Heres my question: Why do I have to enter the port number to get a page displayed? Do I have to have Apache HTTP Server running on MyWebServer to display pages without entering the port number?
    Thanks for your help.

    Oh simmy1, so silly....
You have to enter the port number because Tomcat is running on that port (probably 8080). You actually don't NEED apache at all. Most people use it an HTTP listener because historically, servlet engines and application servers had shitty listeners. (WebLogic 5.1 was really bad.) Not sure how they stack up today.
Port 80 is the default port that browsers will look at. (Try it, hit these forums with http://forum.java.sun.com and then hit it with http://forum.java.sun.com:80. See? Same thing.) If you don't want to have to enter a port number, just make sure whatever is running at the front of your network is serving on port 80. It doesn't matter if its apache, tomcat, weblogic, iis or whatever. There is nothing wrong with running Tomcat on port 80, although using a webserver proxy like apache is generally recommended.
And don't listen to simmy1, this is his second bonehead post I've seen today: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=45&thread=231154

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    @the-edmeister
Thanks for the advice. In my case, it is sufficient to '''uncheck''' " Saved passwords".
('''''Preferences -> Privacy -> Clear History when Firefox closes -> Settings -> Saved Passwords''''').
    Great to have Sync. :)

everytime I open qt pro i have to enter the registration code. This is really annoying. Does anyone know how to rectify this problem?

This procedure will check for files in your home folder that are locked or have a wrong owner. It makes no changes and will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    find . -flags +uchg,uappnd -o ! -user $UID
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If any personal information appears in the output, edit before posting, but don’t remove the context.

is it possible to activate LR5 on a second (privately owned) computer and where do I have to enter the license key?

Lightroom doesn't use activation. The EULA allows you to install Lightroom on two computers, one a desktop the other a laptop. To apply the serial number you go to the Help menu then choose Lightroom Registration.

Yup use the low level File I/O opening the reference once, and closing it once.
As for the path selection you have an unwired input which is the path to use.  Programatically set that and you won't be prompted to select a path.  Usually this is done with a path constant to a folder, then using the Build Path, to set the file name in that folder.
