I have to position my iPod Touch 2 for my Mac and PC to detect it. Any fix?

My iPod Touch 2 has to be position exactly the right way for iTunes to detect it. I have restored to non-jailbroken, tried a Google Search, I can't take it into Apple cuz' it is out of its Warranty, and it would probably cost like $100 dollars (NZD) so I have to find a fix. I believe it must be a Hardware issue but when I bought it like 5 years ago it charged fine with a Stock Apple charger. I now use a USB Sony iPod 30-pin charging dock cuz' its easier to connect it. When I restore sometimes, it gives me an error saying that the USB connection failed. If I get it fixed, I will jailbreak it and install OpenSSH and turn it into a server for my stuff. Looking at the bottom of my iPod (where I plug the connector in), it looks like this:

Restoring to 4.1 and 4.2.1
Not jailbreaking
Google Searching
DFU restore
Restoring with iREB to an older version.
I will NOT under ANY circumstances take apart my iPod. I have a fear of breaking it, and only if an Apple Certified Technician tells me to then I will consider it.
My iPod Touch 2's version is:
iOS 4.1 (Maximum 4.2.1)
MC model
No custom firmware installed (Like Cydia or Whited00r)

Simply plug the iDevice into the computer and sync the content you want.

That has nothing to do with an update server. Do the following:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Try restoring the iPod. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

You almost certainly need to get the battery replaced. It's not something you can do yourself - you will have to take it to an Apple Store or send it by post to Apple: they will replace it with an equivalent model with a new battery.
