I have to reinstall iTunes every time I connect my iPod

This has never happened to me before, but now my iTunes won't recognize my iPod Touch 2nd gen. I'm currently using Windows 7 64-bit. When I check the connected devices, "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" shows up under "Unspecified". I used the Apple-provided troubleshooter and checked if the driver is installed, which it is. All the appropriate services are set to start at my computer's boot and all are running. The last solution was to completely re-install iTunes, which I've done, and my iPod shows up in iTunes. The bad part, after I reboot my computer, the problem returns. It'll be a hassle to keep my computer on all the way and to reinstall every time I boot my computer. Any suggestions?

  • Have to reinstall iTunes each time I want to sync

So I upgraded all my software and finally got my iPad 2 to sync, but now I have to reinstall iTunes each time I want to sync either my iPad or my iPod. It's not as much of a hardship as some of the folks are having in these discussions but it doesn't seem...well...right. Any suggestions?

  • Have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV!

I have the 2012 Apple TV and while Netflix, Youtube, etc. normally work well, I have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV! My iMac is always on and the newest version of iTunes is always running. It doesn't seem to matter if the iMac is in sleep mode or not, and I have a very strong wifi signal coming from my Airport Express. Every time - not sometimes - I want to access music, TV shows or movies in iTunes on Apple TV, it says my library is loading, or cannot connect. Every time. What can I do?

WC, When I use the term Home Sharing it is perhaps a little oversimplified, it is quiet impractical and often overkill to continually restate the complete sequence of events that led me to 'a fix', however, I did not suddenly one day find a problem, switch to wi-fi and find all was well. There was significant investigation done on my part to try to find a solution. if by me saying I moved to wifi and it worked, others can move to wifi and have a fix, great. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here, others much cleverer than me are looking at that...
I had a functioning setup over wired until approx 2 months ago with an ATV2 connecting to Imac library, I was at the time occasionally running some software that restarted itunes once finished which may have masked the problem if it was there, unlikely though. I purchased an ATV3 with a new TV, this upon installation required an ios update much the same time as the itunes update.
I noticed the white light on the atv3 flashing when it was asleep, this was not something i had seen on the atv2, Investigation suggested this was normal behaviour, I remain unconvinced of this.
from that point on 'Home Sharing' did not work until a restart of itunes, it would then work all night (6+ hours)
My mac was set to sleep over night, I tried turning that off-no difference, turned ip6 off-no difference, once it hangs other devices on the network are unable to see the itunes lib, iphone, ipad,MBP etc
Once the thing hangs, Netstat shows a massive quantity of open ports 100/150+ to each on/sleeping atv,  a restart of itunes clears this lot. with wired, these connections start to build again, with wireless not so much.
looking back on here shows folks have had this problem in various guises since early 2011, apple by their own admission state the last update 'fixes some issues with Home Sharing', it seems it introduced some for me...
I am quite sure some peoples problems are down to underlying network problems however this is supposed to be 'Home Sharing' it shouldnt need a degree in computer science to configure, it should just work.
I am not about to pull my network apart to troubleshoot any further, between mac & atv's there are 2 x Giga/switches(netgear) and an Airport Extreme(bridged), the atv cable was plugged into the A.Ex no dice and now connects w/less to the same box and works fine...

  • Itunes crashes every time I connect my Ipod..

I had my Ipod connected while running a software update 1-2 weeks ago. Shortly after the update completed, my computer gave me "A computer must be restarted" mesage, and promptly shut down all the programs I was using and rebooted. Currently, not only does Safari refuse to operate, my Itunes crashes every time I connect my Ipod, preventing me from altering information or transferring songs. I've done everything but 'restore'-- I'm afraid that if I reset my Ipod, I'll lose the songs I already have.

  • Videos updated every time I connect my iPods

So every time I connect my iPod classic or my iPod video 5th gen to iTunes, it keeps on “updating“ some of my videos. So I have to wait until it syncs them back to my ipods until I can disconnect. I really don't understand why it does that so I would like some help. iTunes is up to date. It doesn't re-sync all of my videos, only videos that I have converted.

  • Why is it every time I connect my iPod Classic, iTunes 11.1 freezes?

This only started happening recently. Every single time i connect my iPod, iTunes just stops responding.
I have a 160 GB newer model and Windows 7
Also I've formatted and restored it more than enough times

Stared happening when I updated to iTunes, version 11. Both on Mac OS-X 10.6 and Windows 7 platfiorms. Bounced back to an earlier version and this corrected the problem. Restored and reloaded without any difficulty. Make sure to disable AUTOMATIC UPDATES in preferences in the general pane. Keep a spare version of the application/program so that in case you need it if anything happens or somebody updates your machine if you take it in for service.
Problems associated so far from my perspective using Mac and Windows are: iPod disappears from the desktop, iPod freezes; host computer freezes; iTunes library does not load correctly or at all; Formatting on Windows based computers shows formatted when in fact it did not; iPod may not respond correctly after ejecting.
Hope this helps. Running iTunes version 9.0.2 (originally furnished with my 2009 MacBook). This is from the restore disc and works like a charm. I have the 5th generation 30 Gb iPod.
Inquiries accepted. If I can help, all the better.

But now every time I connect it my coumpter restarts before I connect to iTunes or anything. It is also picking it up as a camera.

  • Why does iTunes say that I have to remove and reinstall it every time I connect my iPhone 4?

Okay, so I just received my new iPhone 4 (my first as well) and am trying to activate it.  I have iTunes on my computer already.  When I connected my iPhone to my laptop after launching iTunes, a dialog box with an error message saying something like my iPhone can't be used because the software hasn't been installed and that I'm supposed to run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes and then to reinstall iTunes again.
1.) I have gone directly to the website www.itunes.com/download, as it says in the activation guide, and tried to download iTunes from there.  After speaking to technical support, apparently that's what I did wrong the first time.  That, and I had the phone plugged into the laptop as well. Fail.
2.) I have opened iTunes from my desktop and "updated" the software directly from the iTunes store.  Still I received the same message (as previously stated) with NO PHONE attached to the computer. Although, this time it said that my Quicktime was out of date. Uninstalled it, downloaded update. Epic fail.
3.) Lastly, I completely uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the "new" iTunes.  I officially suck at life.

  • Error msg to reinstall iTunes every time I sync

Recently I had a new DVD installed. Now every time I sync I get the error msg at start up that says the drivers may not be recognized if I have replaced the CD/DVD. It says reinstall iTunes, which I have done now a total of four times. I have uninstalled the program prior to reinstalling the most recent. But to no avail...
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Tom (tct@usa dot com)

I have the exact same problem as you. I have tried everything that is listed under the support topics on the apple website and the only thing that works is re-installing iTunes.
I used to have the iphone 3G and was connecting to my mac book air. I then changed to an iphone 4 and set that up initially on my mac book air and now I have an imac and am trying to sync my ihpone 4 to that. I did set up my imac by using the back up from my air... could that be the problem?
When I connect it to the imac (with or without the dock) the iphoto app is brought up and asks me if I want to sync the picture on the phone with the computer. I close that and manually open itunes but the phone does not appear on the list. I have to re-install itunes and then it appears.
If anyone knows of what might be preventing itunes from recognising my phone, please do let me know.
If I have not given enough information to diagnose the problem then I apologise and please let em know what is required.
    Thank you

  • Having to reinstall itunes every time I want to recharge iphone via mac

Can anybody relate to the following problem I've experienced twice in a space of 24hrs with a brand new 32GB 3GS iPhone, barely 2 weeks old.
I charge my phone usually via a USB 2.0 cable into the back of my Intel imac. The phone vibrates and charging appears to take place as normal.
However, in the last day or so, every time I insert the iPhone charging cable, the whole thing appears dead, the phone doesn't vibrate, it's not showing up in itunes anymore and no battery charging on the phone seems to take place.
I changed ports on my USB hub and within the mac etc. still nothing, then I reinstalled itunes again and the iPhone suddenly came to life again.
I've now had to reinstall itunes at least twice to get mac to recognise the iPhone again. I'm using itunes 8.2.1 at present.
Has anyone else recently experienced this problem?

Are you connecting your iPhone to a USB hub, or direct to a USB port on your Mac?
    The former is not recommended.

  • Every time I connect my iPod/iPhone to itunes it say it will not connect because I need the 64 bit version of iTunes for Windows. But I do...

I have reinstalled iTunes over 20 times at this point. I've also tried standalone installers for the mobile support. NONE of it is working. This computer is brand new and should have no issues with functionality towards iTunes. This makes absolutely no sense. Please help. I do have the 64 bit version for Windows currently installed.

    Same problem.

  • Every time I connect my iPod to sync new music, other music files are updated while syncing and the album artwork is deleted during this process. How do I stop this from happening?

The album artwork for my music that is already on my iPod is being deleted every time I sync new music to my iPod. I currently have no album artwork at all, only for the new music that had been synced recently.
