I have tried everything! ("service error/reinstall itunes")
Just for reference, I'm getting 2 error messages (Using Windows XP and iPod color). One, when I try to connect my iPod my PC recognizes it but I get this error message when I open iTunes:
The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software.
Then, when I try to install either software update pack for my iPod I get the "iPod Service Error" message.
I have attempted every solution on this page and NOTHING worked. I've also tried some of the suggestions posted on this message board. I'm trying to be patient, but my next-to-new iPod is now almost entirely useless. Oh, and now that I've attempted to install iTunes 5, it won't let me revert to the earlier version of iTunes on the CD that came with my iPod.
Does anyone know if Apple is even planning to provide a fix for this?? I haven't seen so much as an announcement... considering all the errors Windows users have been having, you'd think they'd take down the Windows iTunes download link and fix the problem sharpish.
iTunes / iPod were working perfectly on this computer before I upgraded to iTunes 5. Please help!

The old adage of "don't try to fix it if it isn't broken" is highly relevant in this area!
I think that's fair in most cases, but I'm of the opinion that something released officially by Apple (and not in Beta) should work. Especially when I paid them $400 for a piece of equipment that is more or less useless without it.
It's just absurd to me that they could release something that has a number of serious problems, and not all of them easily fixable. And, on top of that, not even addressing the problem or giving us any avenue of live support. I don't have the time to go scrolling all the message boards and help topics in search of an answer... it should have worked in the first place. My iPod is less than a month old, and I can't even update it. Unacceptable.
That said, I've definitely learned my lesson with Apple's updates and will certainly follow your recommendation in the future.
Oh, and yeah I tried the clean uninstall too. Got rid of everything AND the kitchen sink. Quicktime too. Reinstalled from iTunes website... no. Clean unstall again. Reinstalled from Quicktime website... still no go. Tried everything on that help article I linked to above. Tried to reinstall older iTunes. Tried to update iPod software. Tried to reinstall older iPod software. Tried starting and stopping all processes/applications that anyone mentioned on the message boards. Made sure my Windows XP had installed all updates.
I'm about to go mad.

My iphone icon shows in itunes but is missing from my computer desktop. It is detected as a iphone camera device. Hi,
You can have monitoring latency and hardware latency and this sounds like hardware latency. What interface do you have and have you done a loopback test?

Because you can drag the whole track forward it means that your vocal, despite being in time with itself, is not in sync with the already recorded tracks.
Do a loopback test.
Record a transient sound (hi hat is good) make sure it is dead on the beat, use a midi hi hat and then turn it into audio, Route the recorded audio (hi hat) out of your interfave and then back into your interface to record it on a fresh track. Make sure you don't route them to the main outs to avoid a feedback loop.
Once you have both tracks of hi hat zoom in. The second track will be out with the original and this is the latency of your interface. Zoom right in, you can use the timeline to calculate how many samples it is out. My Motu 828 Mk2 is 58. You then offset this in the Recording Sample offset in your Preferences (not in front of Logic right now so I can't remember the exact term).
Once you have set the offset, do the loopback test again, you can keep all the tracks just make sure you're always using your original, smack on the beat track as your original.
Once the re-recorded matches the original you will have compensated for your interface latency. You do not need to change this if you change sample rate or bit depth. Once you have set it, it stays that way.
Try it and see how you go. If you get stuck there are a few other walk throughs of a loopback test on this very forum.

Apple's latest update to iTunes failed to install on my computer with Windows 8.1 64 bit. I have reinstalled in many times, removed Itunes via Control Pannel, etc. etc. No luck. Tried to go back to an older version, but all of the installs try to install the latest version. I suspect there is a problem with this update and vesion.

Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply. -
I have an iPod 4G, however I cannot update using iTunes. It says 'The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your connection is active.' Ipod is now in the top right corner, last time I clicked on it, it ejected it but by clicking on the actual ipod icon then it brings up your ipod. I restored it to factory settings and synced all my music and it now works again. Hope this can help anyone who ends up with the same problem. -

Have been running iTunes on Windows PC for many months. OS is Vista. Today when prompted to upgrade iTunes and iCloud Control Panel, the upgrade failed. Message received was "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126). Also saw a message that said a particular DLL file was missing but don't know specific file name. Have tried upgrading and uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes several times without success. I have had an iTunes account for 3 years. I have tried for at least two years to delete these purchases that I did not purchase off my iTunes downloads. I have tried everything. I took iTunes off my computer, redownloaded . I have tried deleting and removing them. I do not know how they got there but everytime I go to download anything these 8 purchases start to download. I then have to pause them all and back to the agganizing termoil of trying to delete them off my account. Can you please please help meI am beyond aggrevated because nothing I do deletes these things off, and I have tried for two years with no results but more aggrivation.
I would contact Apple Support either on the phone or via e-mail and have them check if they could remove these questionable purchases off your account.
There is currently no way to do this on your own.
And re-installing iTunes does not help as all the purchase info is stored on Apple's servers. -
Every time I try to install Itunes I get an error message saying it is unable to start services and to verify that I have sufficient privileges. I am the administrator. I have tried everything I can think of. When I click the ingore option it doesn't install corectly and I get a message saying MSVCR80.dll file is missing.

I went through tons of steps that I found online including all of the steps to Fix Gear Drivers. I did the registery steps, I updated my CD & DVD drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, Bonjour, Quicktime and all else in the long list.
Nothing has helped. What else can be done? The message has changed as I have done all of the self-fix steps but it won't let me burn disks still and still get errors.

FYI, the step that has me add back Upperfilters causes Itunes to no longer recognize the drives so I can't do this step. I have tried everything listed.

I've had the same problem. I notice that my Superdrive justs looks at the disc for a bit and then spits it out.
When I boot from my clone of my 10.4.10 setup, I can mount and burn a CD-R in iTunes, although the names of the tracks and disc are screwed up (while the actual data is correct).
But in 10.4.11 and Leopard (also testing that on an external drive) the blank disc won't mount at all.
