I have tried to update my iphone 4s to 8.1 and now it is in recovery mode. Now when I try to restore in hopes to get it back to normal, it extracts the software, re installs the device driver, and then tells me that the iphone cannot be found.
It has been doing this for hours now and I would just like to fix it.

I have an iPad that is stuck in recovery mode. When I try to restore the firmware, I get an unknown error occured (1611). Does anybody have a solution for this?
There is a way to get it recovered from the so called DFU mode. Try to restart the phone while holding the home and power button at the same time. Then try to connect it to iTunes and do the same again. If you try that again till it works you should be able to use your iPhone as before.

my new iphone 4 is stuck with "USB connect to itunes". I put it in recovery mode last night. Itunes recognizes the phone and says it's in recovery mode, but when I do a restore, nothing changes.
it says "itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes." I click OK
then I click the restore button
Then the box says "Are you sure you want to restore the iphone to it's factory settings? all of your.....etc." I click Restore and Update
then it goes into software update
at the end of the software update it says "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode...."
All this time, the screen of the iphone stays on with USB to Itunes
I might add that while the phone was in it's first attempt at recovery mode, it was accidentally unplugged.

Usually a sign of a jailbroken iPhone & since Apple does not support jailbreaking, that's what happens. If that's the case with you, we can't help you here...the terms of use prohibit such. Sorry, but you'll have to go elsewhere.

Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
My wife gave me her older ipad. I have reset and removed all data. My Apple ID (Ipod touch) is not an email adress, but when I try to stu up the ipad it asks for my Apple ID, then tells me that for security reasons the Apple ID must be in email format?

Placing your iPod into recovery mode should allow you to successfully restore the device.
You might see these error messages if any of these are true:
Your device has a beta version of iOS.
You're trying to install an earlier version of iOS (downgrading).
Your device has unauthorized modifications to iOS, also called "jailbreaking."
Use recovery mode to restore your device to the latest version of iOS.

When I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message "Unable to process the backup file."
I lost my bookmarks and when I try to restore them I can see the backup files in the restore window but when I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message "Unable to process the backup file." Can you assist? Thanks

Since I "upgraded" to FF 4, I have constant crashes (I tried updating my graphics drivers--it did not help) and now all of my bookmarks have disappeared. When I try to restore them, I get this error message "Unable to process the backup file". I have lost years of bookmarks...please help.
I am using Windows XP, SP 3 if that matters.I am also unable to restore any of the backups of the bookmarks, both automatic backups and two backups that I created manually. Since I was able to restore backups before, and since no changes have occurred to these backup files, the problem must be with Firefox.
Right before my bookmarks disappeared, FF crashed and I accidentally started FF 3.5. When I saw what I did, I ended the Firefox process and started FF 4. That's when all my bookmarks were gone and I discovered I couldn't retrieve any backups. I did note that an add-on was updated when I restarted FF. Maybe that's the problem. I want to return my iPad 3, but I did not have an apple account at the time of purchase, and when I type in my order number and proceed to click "cancel order", it prompts me to log in with my apple I'd and then tells me that I am not authorised to do anything on the account in relation to the transaction. I had an 8GB 1st gen iPod in it's original box in storage and just took it out to hook it up. Charged it overnight, plugged it into new Mac Book Pro and it was recognized as being an iPod in recovery but other identifying information was all indicated as "n/a" (so, unknown OS, etc). Error code 1604 came up so I downloaded iTunes on the Mac Book and it is currently showing version 10. But now when I try to restore the iPod, error code 1611 comes up and the troubleshooting doesn't tell me what else to try. The USB connector that came with the iPod was also never used before - brand new also from the box so that should be fine. I also tried a different USB port on the Mac Book. Any ideas?

Ok, i've read through the answers that have been given for the error that comes up when people try to restore their iPod and get this:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
so i get that message when i plug in my iPod still...even after having gone to the Apple Store to try and get it fixed. They fixed the actual iPod but still no success with the computer. And every time I plug in the iPod i get the message about it being corrupt and needing restore.
But whenever i click "Restore" i get a message saying: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
someone PLEASE help! I'm getting frustrated beyond belief here, i've tried the chkdsk stuff, and the bit about removing the iPod update software folder, if that's the same solution set, then i forgot what the other part was, but i've tried both of the suggested and nothing's working.
please someone help.I got this under XP before. I was totally baffled until I realized there was a network drive mapped to the same place XP was trying to mount my iPod. The common symptom is that you'll get this sort of "corrupt" error on one machine but it works ok on a friend's machine. If that's true for you, you can change the network drive mapping to another drive letter (easiest) or mount your iPod and change its drive letter in the disk management control panel (under admin tools).
Hope that helps... this one just about had me pulling my hair out until I recognized the problem. -
