I have tried turning off ipod touch to restore as forgotton password and this hasnt done it

forgotton password and have tried resetting it by turning off and on . this hasnt workd help

If you've forgotten the passcode then you will need to connect the iPod to (preferably) the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPod and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPod into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

I have tried manually removing itunes and reinstalling. i have gone through the sevices anf tried turning on the AMDS. i have tried turning off the firewall. i have tried restoring my device. i have tried "fixing" the AMDS in the add/remove programs. I have tried using a different device. i have tried using a different cable. I have tried all of the steps given in the link supplied by Apple. None of these things have fixed my problem. I still have the Error Message "The Apple Mobile Device Service started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs or Alerts service. I am using Windows XP. I am leaning towards a last resort which would be to wipe my hard drive and start from scratch. Does anyone have a solution?

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • HT5594 After updating to iOS7 on my iPhone4 I cannot enable location services. How do I enable location services? I have tried turning off restrictions but that did not work.

After updating to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 I cannot enable location services. How do I enable location services? I have tried turning off restrictions but that did not work.

I finally just resolved this after not being able to enable location services since upagrading to iOS 7. Posting the solution here 'cause I couldn't find it anywhere else.
I enabled Restrictions under Settings > General > Restrictions and created a passcode (I'm not sure if this was part of the solution, but it wasn't enabled for me by default.)
In Restrictions, under Privacy, Location Services was set to "Allow Changes" (This still didn't solve the issue of the greyed-out Location Services switch though - I still couldn't turn it on.)
Also in Restrictions, I also switched "Find My Friends" to "Allow Changes"
Once I did step 3, the switch under Settings > Privacy > Location Services was no longer greyed out and could be switched on.
    Hope this helps!

So when you plug it into your computer, you're not getting a message in iTunes that it has discovered a phone in recovery mode?
Reboot both the computer and the phone and try again.

Try to do a hard reboot (no data is lost) by holding down the home and power buttons at the same time untilyou see the Apple logo. Then, let go of both buttons. If that doesn't work, try restoring your iPod and do NOT restore from a backup. This will erase your data, but you can sync back everything except app data and settings from iTunes.

I have upgraded to ios5 and Facetime no longer works.  I have tried turning it off under Settings and then back on, but it still doesn't work. The symptoms are the same as what I read but the solution that has worked for some has not worked for me.

    Hi,
    Try restoring your iPad.
If not speak to someone at the genius bar in Apple

  • HT201412 My husbands ipad is frozen have tried turning off and on again any suggestions please

My husbands ipad is frozen we have tried turning it off and on again any other suggestions please

    Did you reboot?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • L when doing a master reset on iPhone.  Have tried turning off/on with no luck.  Safe reboot displays many bugs and socket is not launched.....

Yesterday while attempting to perform a master reset on my iPhone 5, I was instructed to log onto iTunes, plug my phone in and "follow" the instructions.  After connecting my phone to my Mac book pro (bought a year and a half ago), the laptop recognized my phone and immediately after that, the apple icon and spinning wheel appeared.  Not realizing that it was not part of the download process, I waited a couple of hours to no avail.  I was informed by the person working at the phone store that the update could take 'awhile'.....I have tried turning on and off several times, and the screen remains grey with the apple icon and spinning wheel.  Just performed a safe boot using the shift - command - v key and the screen shows a long list of Bug: launchctl with a message at the bottom "socket is not connected".  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like to point out the fact that I mentioned my phone is iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2
I don't care if it is a known defect in iOS 8, my phone is not iOS 8 and can not be updated past 7.1.2
Your solution will not work because I can't see the group message in the first place, deleting it would not be possible.
Also, I can not wait for the update on a phone that can no longer update.

  • HT201412 ON MY iPOD TOUCH 4g, THE SHUTTER WILL NOT OPEN, SO I CAN NOT USE MY CAMERA. HOW DO I RESET IT. i HAVE TRIED TURNING OFF/ON, RESETTING IT AND RESTORING IT, NOTHING HAS WORKED. HELP!!

On my Ipod Touch 4G, the camers shuter is stuck closed. I have reset it, restored it, turned it off/on, nothing has worked. Operating system is up to date. This has been an issue for a while, but it normally fixes itself.

    Try here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
Also try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • HT1459 my ipod isnt turning on i have tried everything my ipod touch is 3rd gen and the serial number on the back isnt working

qmy ipod is not turning on, it hasnt turned on for over a year. it is a 3rd gen ipod touch the account that im useing isnt my original one but i really hope i can get a few tips

You almost certainly need to get the battery replaced. It's not something you can do yourself - you will have to take it to an Apple Store or send it by post to Apple: they will replace it with an equivalent model with a new battery.

  • Turned Off iPod Touch 1st Gen During Restore. Did I kill it?

My 1st Generation iPod Touch wasn't being detected by iTunes so I chose the reset option that erases all data. While it was restoring, I thought it froze because the white progress bar under the apple stopped midway and I turned the iPod off. Now when I switch it on, the black screen with the apple logo switches on for about 10-seconds, and then the iPod powers off. My mac doesn't detect it and I've tried holding the home and the sleep key. What else can I do?

If I were you I would call Apple about this problem

  • Can't turn off ipod touch

I have a brand new 8GB iPod touch. No matter what I try I cannot turn it off. I hold the top button down and nothing happens. I hold the top and Home buttons down simutaneously for over 20 seconds and the only thin that happens is the Voice Control app turns on. Very frustrating.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
