I have two computers that don't properly recognize my Ipod!!

Specs of computer # 1:
A VIA K8VNXP motherboard
Radeon X800 XT PE
AMD 64 3400+ (Socket 734 I believe)
1 gig of 400mhz Cosair DDR ram
160 gig IDE 7200 RPM hard drive
Audigy 2 sound card
Specs of computer # 2:
Specs:
Shuttle SN25P Mobo/case combo
AMD 64 3000+ (Socket 939)
1 gig of Cosair 400Mhz DDR ram
Leadtek Geforce 6800 GT
Disclaimer: The ipod I'm having trouble with worked perfectly on my Sager notebook. I sold that notebook about a month ago and built a shuttle. I only used my ipod on my Sager notebook before testing it on my shuttle and desktop
Pretty much when I install the Ipod software, the "ipod configuration" portion of the installer would recognize that the ipod was connection, but would not be able to "find" it. The progress bar keeps going until it tells me my ipod needs to be formatted (Which it is mind you, fat32 too).
If I click on format, it just keeps looking for what seems like forever and finally gives up.
If I ignore the configuration wizard and install itunes and the driver software, itunes never is able to find the ipod nor can the ipod update utility find the ipod.
The ipod DOES work as a hard drive, meaning I can transfer files to it and stuff, but it doesn't have the ipod icon as the drive icon nor is it recognized by itunes or the update utility.
After digging on Apples support site, I found this:

The only potential problem may be the section that says my ipod needs to be connected to a "high powered" USB 2.0 port.
Well I know I have a USB 2.0 port that's properly configured and I know that it's powered (I have a USB mini vaccum cleaner that draws power from the USB port). But is it "high powered"? Is there a difference?
How do I find out if it's high powered? If it isn't, how do I make it high powered?
I am really running out of ideas guys. It can't be this hard to setup an ipod (since I had no problems with it on my notebook), why aren't both of my computers playing nice with it?????
Also the ipod I bought is an 60 gig ipod photo, is this a 5th generation ipod that can play video?

hi Michael!
hmmm. it might be worth checking to see if at least one of the recognition problems is a drive letter issue:

keep us posted.
