I have two instances of plugin container shown running in Task Manager. Is one malware of some sort?

No crashes to report. Windows 7 64 bit; Firefox 3.6.10; Previously have battled the two instances of Firefox running and finally beat it back after multiple virus scans by multiple AV products. Now I have two instances of the plugin container shown.
Googled with out success and finding anything.

  • Installed 3.6.6 and found PLUGIN-CONTAINER.EXE-15EDC9DD.pf running in task manager allowing voices/music from some unknown web site to continually play even though firefox is closed. 3.6.6 is a major problem and also continually crashes! in English

After downloading 3.6.6, plugin-container.exe allows an unknown website to continually stream audio through my speakers, even after firefox is closed. I kill the process in task manager and it still relaunches itself. I found this file also running by search my computer PLUGIN-CONTAINER.EXE-15EDC9DD.pf in c:\Windows\Prefetch. When I kill that process, audio instantly stops. But it relaunches after 10 minutes or so. The process eats up lots of memory. I've had to restart firefox in safe mode several times as it crashed even before opening. 3.6.6 is majorly flawed and I'm running Windows XP. Time to downgrade to 3.6.4

  • When I load Firefox I have two instances of my mail programs initiated, how do I remove one?

I thought it was a setting within colorful tabs, and there weren't any settings for startup tab information on the binary turf webpage

Is this a webmail service that is opening in 2 tabs? If it is check your list of home pages to make sure that the webmail service is not listed twice. For details of how to do that see [[how to set the home page]].

  • Multiple instances of "plugin container" running

I have consistently had up to five instances of plugin container running in the background...
    * Windows Vista 32 bit build Ver 6.0 SP 2
    * Firefox 4.0x
So far nothing can be attributed to web browsing behavior.
    Thanks

There is a known issue where multiple instances of plugin container open if history or cookies are cleared. Are you, or some utility clearing firefox cookies or history, that could be the reason. This problem continues even if plugins are disabled in Firefox.
*Are you opening multiple instances of Flash Player ?
    * Is the problem reproducible ? <br/> for instance does it always crash the plugin or cause it to hang if you use a particular site ?
If you get the FlashPlayer plugin crashing use the option to submit the crash reports, it is then possible to follow them up. It is possible to stop the plugincontainer opening, but that could result in a firefox crash. Of course the firefox crash can also send crash reports out, and that could be useful.
    * see [[plugin crash reports]]
    * [[what is plugin-container]]
    * [[firefox crashes]]
There are some problems with FlashPlayer currently under investigation, and there may be other threads in the forum about problems. (e.g. Bug 561019 - Plugin waveOutOpen hangs )
Sometimes using Firefox 3.6 is a workaround that helps with FlashPlayer problems, if you wish to experiment with that consider installing firefox Portable and using Firefox 3.6.23 (or soon 3.6.24) for tests with flash player, whilst keeping firefox 7 for day to day browsing.

  • Numerous instances of "plugin-container.exe" causes crash.

Viewing pages that use plugins such as Flash or the Adobe Reader plugin open new instances of "plugin-container.exe" in the processes. The problem is that each of these instances continues to run after the page using the plugin has been closed or navigated away from causing large drain on system memory. They can be shut down manually from Task Manager but this shouldn't happen in the first place. I have since downgraded from Beta 12 to Beta 11 where this does not happen.

  • Multiple instances of plugin-container

    Hello,
Whenever I start FF 4, I get well counted 23 instances of plugin-container.exe! This is since I upgraded to FF4. Here is how it exactly goes:
I double-click on firefox.exe; I get to the startpage (the FF-google startpage); I go to taskmanager and count alot(!) of plugin-container.exe
When I browse, it's not really slow, but when I get to a youtube video or something with flash FF really slows down mij whole pc.
Then I manually close all exe's and just browse on. It says "plugin crashed", but that's no problem because Ff will start a new one.
I have winXP prof service pack 3
    Thanks alot!

  • I want to separate Flash players into multiple instances of plugin-container.exe

Let's say I'm watching a video online and I feel like playing a Flash game while watching it. Let's also assume that this Flash game, like many others, has no volume options and is obnoxiously loud, drowning out the video.
All running Flash players (even between separate windows of Firefox) share the same process, so if I try to drop the volume of the game in Windows 7, it drops the volume of the video as well.
Is there some way to get firefox to load Flash players into separate process so that Windows can give me volume control over each? Perhaps there is an addon that does this?
P.S. I tried the -no-remote command line option on Firefox, but it turns out that each instance of firefox.exe requires a separate profile (which is an issue if the game uses cookies). I'd rather be able to get one instance of firefox.exe to use multiple instances of plugin-container.exe.

  • Can we have two instance of OHS running in a box

Can we have two instance of OHS running in a box with single installation of OHS server.
Something like running multiple apache instance with using different conf file for each.
    -Ram

It is true that creating more than one instances of OHS out of one set of binaries (install) is NOT supported by Oracle. But is it possible if you don't care about what's supported by Oracle? You betcha! Yes it is possible (even in 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 OHS) to create and run more than one instances of OHS out of one install.
This is basic Apache concept which Oracle does not disable. But I would again mention, this is something Oracle does not support. How would you achieve this? There is planty of information on internet, google can be your friend:
    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=run+multiple+apache+instances
If you do this route, note that not just httpd.conf, you will also need to make another copy of dms.conf and ssl.conf. And if you want to have this another instance of OHS managed by opmnctl, you will also have to duplicate (with necessary changes) the section in opmn.conf about HTTP_Server too.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

My computer crashed and I cant reload firefox.. I have tried the task manager and deleting uninstalling and installing program again. I click on icon and nothing appears although it appears to start and is running in task manager, but the browser wont open.

    See:
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager

I got a dropper trojan virus on my computer that microsoft security essencials do not recognized but after running "superantispyware" antivirus I got discover it and delete it. After that, I still could find the infected files in my
administrator folders as .temp files and I just erased them. After that my computer started crashing and runing several instances of explorer.exe in the task manager with different memory values, some of them ascending to 350,000. I have set up my computer
to run just the basic services, I have tried windows in safe mode, ran other antivirus programs but still it is performing the same. As far as I have noticed other unusual process present are host.dll, dllhost.exe, and logonUI.exe. Any idea about it? Thanks
    in advance for your help.

I have the same issue. It started about a month ago when I was filling out a form online and had to quit and close the window.  My system got very buggy (can't remember details), flashing, then really slow.  Found a bunch of explorer.exe instances
in Task Manager.  Ran Security Essentials and several other anti-viruses, nothing found.
    Running Win7 Pro, sp1, 64-bit, CoreI5, 4Gb Ram
Restored system to a previous version, didn't work
Restored last system image, didn't work
Used System Repair Disk - ran Memory Diagnostic.  Said it would give me report after reboot.  Never saw a report after reboot. But only one instance of explorer.exe in task manager at that point.  Took disk out, rebooted normally.  After
20 minutes or so, the multiple instances were back.
Used Repair Disk again, ran Memory Diagnostic. Again, no report after reboot (leaving disk in machine both times), but only one instance running again.
Did this a few times with the same result, so now leaving disk in system and always boot from it.
Ran Security Essentials again, found that rovnix virus, removed, ran again, found it again.
Ran search for instances and found many.  Here's an example:
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe
    C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17567_none_b9fc4815c4e292b5

    C:\Windows\winsxs\wow64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.21669_none_ba87e574ddfe652d
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17567_none_afa79dc39081d0ba
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64
When I check properties on the now single one on Task Manager, this is what it shows:
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17567_none_afa79dc39081d0ba\explorer.exe
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe
I was going to reinstall entire system, but was from an Anytime Upgrade which now says it's invalid.  Much more to story on that (calls to MS support, etc.).

  • FireFox is the best internet navigator so far, but starting from this date of July 16th 2011, I'm going back to IE and stop using FF as long as I'm still getting 20 to 25 plugin containers in my Windows Task Manager. Goodbye FF.

I have been using FF for the last 8 years. Starting from today of July the 16th 2011, I'm going back to IE and say goodbye to FF as long as I'm still getting 20 to 25 plugin containers in my Windows task manager.

I have the "techie" answer for all of you. According to the tier 2 support at Norton Help Desk, the latest live update from Norton "utilizes Visual Studio 2012 which enables SSE2 instructions" and my processor can not handle that.
He said they are "working on a solution" and offered to reply back on Wednesday / Thursday this week if a solution could be found...

  • When I close Firefox 4.0 RC2, I have four or more instances of "plugin-container.exe" spawn before Firefox (and all of the spawned processes) close. Is this normal/intended behavior?

These processes seem to be independent of the normal plugin-container process spawned for Flash.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
